Evangelical Opposes Division With Catholics

Concerns are being raised as Johnnie Moore, the former vice president for Liberty University, recently sent a letter to Pope Francis, requesting a meeting to oppose the division developing between Catholics and Evangelicals. Moore’s letter addressed to “Your Holiness,” seeks a dialogue to see how the two groups can work together. Moore said, “I speak for many Evangelicals when I say that we have looked upon your appointment with great gratitude to God and with great optimism for the new spirit that you have brought to the Catholic Church.

In an interview with Christian News Network, Mike Gendron said, “Moore’s request for a meeting with a pope who has blasphemed the triune God by stealing His titles, Holy Father, Head of the Church, and Vicar of Christ, is deplorable.” Gendron also found Moore’s desire to combat division between Evangelicals and Catholics to be demonstrative of “the disturbing ignorance among many Evangelicals concerning Church history.” He said, “The division took place five hundred years ago when the Roman Catholic Church sealed her departure from the Christian faith by deliberately and dogmatically rejecting the gospel of Jesus Christ at the Council of Trent. Moore’s attempt to unite Evangelicals and Catholics is playing into the pope’s agenda to rebuild the religious tower of Babel. Our sovereign and omnipotent Lord does not need the help of unbelievers to fight the social and cultural wars. There is something much more important at stake and that is the purity and exclusivity of the Gospel.” Read complete interview here

Rick Warren to Speak at Papal Mass

More than 1.5 million people are expected for the Mass with Pope Francis in Philadelphia in September during the World Meeting of Families. Some of the speakers listed include Cardinal Tagle of Manila, Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston, Scott Hahn, Rick Warren and Rabbi Abraham Skorka. Underlining the ecumenical and interfaith element of the meeting, Archbishop Chaput said 30 percent of the speakers would be non-Catholic…

Mike’s Comment. The Vatican has been looking for compromisers in the evangelical world… Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in southern California, has been an easy target for many years. In a recent interview he said, “We have far more in common (with Catholics) than what divides us. We believe in the trinity…”…

Worship Pastor Encourages Unity with Rome

Darlene Zschech, who has published many popular worship albums under Integrity Music and Hosanna labels, is calling for her followers to unite with Roman Catholics. Her most popular Christian hymn has been “Shout to the Lord.” Last week, she performed on stage as a headliner at the Vatican’s Renewal of the Holy Spirit rally. On her Facebook page, Zschech breathlessly gushed, “The prep has begun in Rome. I can feel the prayers. Honoured to be singing this week, with Andrea Bocelli, Don Moen (Praise & Worship Leader), Noa (Achinoam Nini) with Pope Francis and thousands of worshippers gathering in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican. This is a celebration of unity and peace in the Renewal of the Holy Spirit. Amazing days for the Body of Christ.”

The ecumenical and interfaith movements are not Christian. It is warned about in the Bible (Revelation 17-18). It is only after Babylon falls (Zechariah 2:6-7) and Jesus returns that true Christian unity will occur (Zechariah 2:10-11). The Bible warns that God’s people are NOT to be part of the movement that exists before Jesus returns (Revelation 18:4; watch also Do You Know That Babylon is Forming?).

Protestant leaders like Rick Warren, Johnnie Moore and Darlene Zshech presumably have read the Bible, but obviously do not understand much of it (and if so, Darlene Zshech would not be functioning as a ‘worship pastor,’ see also Women and the New Testament Church).

The blatant idolatry of the Church of Rome should be clear, even to Protestant leaders. But many seem to wish to overlook that.

Notice what the New Jerusalem Bible (a Catholic-approved translation into English) and the NKJV (a Protestant translation) shows:

10 … God alone you must worship. (NJB)

10 … Worship God! (Revelation 19:10, NKJV)

We are to worship God, not dead people considered to be saints. Nor statues or relics.

Yet, people like Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople does. He was quoted in Ecumenical News yesterday:

Fight for protection of the environment, urges Ecumenical Patriarch

He delivered a message for Sept. 1, observed as the “Day for the Protection of Creation” calling upon “all people of good will to undertake the good struggle for the protection of the natural environment and the establishment of solidarity.”

While we should be proper stewards of the environment, Patriarch Bartholomew was making a political statement that the Vatican wanted and is consistent with the ecumenical agenda that he and Pope Francis have.

Next month, Pope Francis is planning on using the anniversary of the Protestant Reformation as an ecumenical opportunity (watch Pope Francis’ Celebration of Reformation’s 500th Anniversary). Instead of denouncing that, many Protestant leaders are embracing him and his agenda.
