The Associated Press reports that European leaders are looking at ways to deal with economic concerns, including the impact of the coronavirus:
Facing recession, Europe grasps for ways to limit damage

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Suddenly staring recession in the face, European leaders are lining up an array of tax breaks, financial support for companies and likely central bank measures in the hope of preventing the coronavirus outbreak from dealing long-term damage to the economy.
Expectations have grown that European Central Bank officials will announce more monetary stimulus when they meet Thursday, after the Bank of England acted Wednesday and the U.S. Federal Reserve last week.
The European Commission plans to set up a 25 billion-euro ($28 billion) investment fund to support the health care system, businesses and labor market measures. The Italian government is offering an aid package of about the same size.
Yet any such actions will likely be more damage limitation than cure.
Monetary stimulus and government spending can spur demand for goods. But the coronavirus deals a shock from the supply side by closing businesses and making people stay home, highlighted by Italy’s dramatic decision this week to limit travel and public gatherings across the country. Lower interest rates or tax cuts cannot solve that.
Meanwhile, action to help the 19 countries that use the euro currency faces constraints from the lack of a large central treasury, a hurdle other large economies like the U.S. and China do not face.
“The world is facing a medical emergency that monetary and fiscal policy cannot fix,” said Holger Schmieding, chief economist at Berenberg private bank.
The best policymakers can do for the economy is to prevent the virus from dealing prolonged damage even after the outbreak ends, to keep small- and medium-sized companies that provide most of the jobs in the economy from going out of business due to a short-term issue beyond their control.
Among the most affected are companies involved in travel. The number of people going through European airports is expected to fall by 187 million this year, hurting hotels, restaurants, cabdrivers and airlines. Lufthansa is cutting up to half of its flights from April. Ryanair suspended all flights to and from Italy. Exhibition centers have seen trade fairs postponed and football matches are taking place in empty stadiums.

Now, ECB Governor Christine Lagarde, who left her perch at the IMF to take over the central bank late last year despite having little in the way of experience with monetary policy, has delivered her most dramatic warning yet about the potential risks to the European economy – and the global economy – if governments fail to act (we’re looking at you, Germany).
According to Bloomberg, Lagarde said Europe risks a major economic shock on par with the global financial crisis if its leaders fail to act, and signaled that the central bank will follow the Fed and BoE with a monetary policy bombshell of its own on Thursday, when it delivers its latest decision on interest rates and policy following the conclusion of its two-day policy meeting.
During a conference call with European Union leaders late Tuesday, Lagarde reportedly said that without coordinated action Europe “will see a scenario that will remind many of us of the 2008 Great Financial Crisis,” according to a source familiar with what was said on the call. But with the proper response, the shock will likely prove temporary, she added. …

Coordinated action means that Christine Lagarde wants more European unity, as well as more governmental control.
As far as united governmental controls go, Europe has been working on this for some time.

Having said that, it is not just the spread of COVID-19 that threatens Europe’s economy. There is Brexit, which will hurt at least parts of its economy. There are trade matters with the USA. And there are other issues that Europe has not addressed before.

Europe is facing some difficult economic headwinds.
Europe will one day face civil unrest as well.
Economic factors will be one of the reasons that the Europeans will one day reorganize and turn to the Beast of Revelation to lead them consistent with Revelation 17:12-13.
Despite any coming recession, the Bible shows that Europe will recover economically.
For a time, the Bible shows that the coming European Babylonian power will dominate world trade:
2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.” (Revelation 18:2-3).
While ‘Babylon’ will not fully reign in 2020, with the USA implementing tariffs, increasing sanctions, pulling out of trade deals and/or wishing to change them, steps are occurring that are pushing Europe to dominate trade (watch Trade Wars: Are COG warnings coming to pass?). The Europeans have been working with Latin America, China, Russia’s Eurasian Union, and other areas of the world to try to set up its dominance of world trade as well as standards for world trade.
Trade threats by the USA are getting the Europeans to work to try to develop trade in Asia (see ‘EU and China sign a Mandate of Trade Heaven’ and EU makes world’s largest ‘free trade deal’ as some see EU moving towards totalitarian fascism and watch China’s Silk Road and Babylon the Great) and Latin America (see EU looking to make world’s biggest trade deal with South America).
The Bible prophesies the following in the Book of Revelation:
2 … Babylon … 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury. (Revelation 18:2,3)
The above is referring to the fact that nations of the world are prophesied to get wealthy trading with end time Babylon, which will be a European entity. This European power will have religious ties to the City of Seven Hills–the Church of Rome:
1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.” (Revelation 17:1-2)9 Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. … 18 And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.” (Revelation 17:9,18)
The economy will be a factor in what can be called World War III–and this war will be a conflict with Europe (but the real ‘shooting’ aspect of this will not happen before 2023; for some details, see When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?).
Yes, Europe is facing a lot of economic problems, but, despite how bad it may look, it will recover economically and one day, relatively soon, dominate world trade. But only for a time.
And Europe’s coming rise will NOT end well for the USA (cf. Daniel 11:39), its British-descended allies (cf. Daniel 8:24-25; Isaiah 17:3), nor even Europe itself (cf. Revelation 18).
