G-7: Trade, China, and Tensions

Trump grabbed early headlines Monday as he expressed optimism to reporters for trade deals with China and Japan, as well as prospects for an agreement with Iran. …
Trump downplayed any sense of tension between himself and French President Emmanuel Macron, after the French leader met Sunday with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
“I knew he was coming in, and I respected the fact that he was coming in,” said Trump, who added that he gave Macron his approval.
Trump, who withdrew from the international agreement on Iran’s nuclear deal last year, said new negotiations would include Iran’s nuclear program and its ballistic missiles. He criticized the length of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action as being too short.
“Iran has a chance to really build themselves up and be a very great nation, greater than before. But they have to stop terrorism,” Trump said.
At the summit, Macron introduced a plan to defuse rising tensions in the Gulf by partially lifting the U.S. oil embargo on Iran in exchange for Tehran’s returning to full compliance to the 2015 deal that restricts its nuclear program. …
Trump continues to resist pressure from his G-7 counterparts to rejoin the nuclear pact with Iran, a deal that’s considered a signature achievement of the Obama administration. After abandoning the pact, he slapped crippling sanctions on Tehran.
China trade tensions
G-7 leaders here have expressed concern about the escalation of the U.S.-China trade fight, with summit host Macron saying he hopes for leaders to pull back from an all-out trade war.
“I want to convince all our partners that tensions, and trade tensions in particular are bad for everybody,” he said in a speech.
Speaking alongside Trump during a working breakfast meeting, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson publicly refuted Trump’s statement that other leaders have not pressured him to give up the trade war with China, believed to be causing uncertainty in the global economy and volatility in stock markets.
“Just to register the faint, sheep-like note of our view on the trade war, we’re in favor of trade peace on the whole, and dialing it down if we can,” Johnson said.
Johnson is seen as a natural ally to Trump due to similarities in their populist policies and Brexit.
Trump, in his comments Monday, seemed optimistic about reaching a trade deal with China, saying, “I think we’re going to make a deal.”
He said China had contacted U.S. trade officials by phone seeking to return to the negotiating table.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Donald Trump held a press conference on Monday as they sat down for bilateral talks at the G7 in Biarritz.
The two leaders addressed US-EU trade negotiations, the escalating US-China trade dispute and Iran, among other issues.
US-Europe trade deal
Merkel said she hoped the European Union would reach a trade deal with the United States as soon as possible.
Trump said the two had discussed a trade deal with the European Union and that he hoped Washington would not have to consider imposing tariffs on German car exports.
However, he again characterized Europe’s trading practices as unfair and claimed the United States had lost a lot of money. …
Trump claimed there was “great unity” among G7 leaders on Iran and they had “more or less” come to a conclusion. … Merkel said she and Trump had productive talks but there was still a long way to go on the Iran issue. https://www.dw.com/en/merkel-trump-talk-trade-and-iran-at-g7/a-50165565
Essentially, it looks like the G-7 nations talked and Donald Trump was able to talk about his views. He probably saw some nodding of heads at times (or some other signs) that some of his points were understood. He apparently concluded that the participants agreed with him a lot more than they themselves thought.
There is still a lot of tension.
The non-US participants do not agree with Donald Trump on Iran nor on the climate.
Now a major concern that the European participants have involve trade.
Donald Trump’s recent statements and actions related to China (e.g. China retaliates with tariffs against US in trade war; CNBC: Europe trade conflicts are potentially more damaging) look also to be intended to send a message to Europe that he intends to be tough with trade talks with the EU. But they also are giving the EU an opening to be in a better negotiating position with China on matters of trade. Donald Trump’s attitudes towards the World Trade Organization are also giving the EU and opportunity to better shape world trade rules the way they want them.
Donald Trump has long been in favor of Brexit as well as essentially breaking up the European Union.
The EU leaders are aware of this and, thus, no matter their public statements, they have an underlying tension with the US.
This is causing them to take steps that the US (Daniel 11:39) and the UK (Daniel 8:24-25) will one day regret.

Donald Trump’s foreign policy statements have unsettled many—in the U.S.A. as well as foreign nations. He seems like he will more unpredictable than Richard Nixon.
There is also something referred to as the “law of unintended consequences.” There are consequences for the U.S.A., Europe, and elsewhere that have and will occur because of Donald Trump’s statements and actions.
One of the “unintended consequence” of Donald Trump’s statements and actions will be that Europe will take more steps to deal with trade matters.
The Bible shows, that for a time, a European ‘Babylon’ state will dominate world trade:
2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.” (Revelation 18:2-3).
Now, as the above shows, European (Babylon) will not last.
Of course, world leaders tend to ignore or disbelieve biblical prophecies.
So the pressures and tensions that we are currently seeing are pushing the Europeans to take steps to push aside USA dominance to fulfill various prophecies (cf. Revelation 13).
