Germany moving ahead with its Free-electron Laser: Military applications?

The XFEL was considered a must-have machine for European science
One of the most powerful X-ray machines ever built has officially opened in the German city of Hamburg.
The facility, which has cost more than a billion euros to build, will be used to study the detailed structure of matter, atom by atom.
It is called the European X-ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL).
Scientists say the way it shines light on targets will permit, for example, chemical bonds to be filmed in the instant that they are made or broken. …
The machine is a superconducting linear accelerator that is housed in a 3.4km-long tunnel complex some 40m beneath Hamburg and the nearby town of Schenefeld.
It works by accelerating bunches of electrons to almost light-speed, before then throwing them down a slalom course controlled by a system of magnets, known as undulators.
As the electrons bend and turn, they emit flashes of X-rays; and as the particles interact with this radiation, they also bunch even tighter.
Their compact configuration not only intensifies their light emission but gives it coherence as well. In essence, the X-rays are “in sync” and have the properties of laser light.
The beam will penetrate and detail at the atomic scale whatever is put in its path.
This could be the protein molecules that drive our bodies or the catalyst materials used to produce industrial chemicals. …
Many nations around the world use circular machines called synchrotrons that do a very similar job.

So this ‘MUST HAVE’ EUROPEAN MACHINE is A BILLION times brighter than others in the world. And this project may make a lot of physics-related discoveries. This is a project that is giving Europe technologies that it expects to exploit in the future.
This is another European project that is ahead of the USA. I believe that this one has military potential.
While I have not seen anything publicly from the Europeans that this has military applications, the US government has considered some. Notice the following:
The FEL weapon system will provide U.S. ships with speed-of-light fire capability for a range of missions and threats, a key element of a future shipboard layered defense.
An Innovative Naval Prototype program for the FEL technology began in 2010. It will demonstrate scalability of the necessary FEL physics and engineering for an eventual megawatt-class device.
This revolutionary technology provides multiple payoffs to the warfighter. The ability to control the frequency of a laser beam allows for operation in the maritime environment. The variability of the beam strength provides graduated lethality with minimum collateral damage and a low cost-per-engagement when compared to the projectile and logistics support costs of conventional explosive munitions. Against low-value targets it is an effective alternative to the use of expensive missile systems. The USA has military interest (actually, the link above mentions “Research Challenges and Opportunities * FEL weapons …”), yet what Europe has may be a BILLION times more powerful.
Regular readers of the COGwriter.com news page realize that I have regularly written that a future power in Europe will one day take over the USA based on scriptures like the following:
39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain. (Daniel 11:39)
The “he” above is the European King of the North, whereas the power in the 21st century with the “strongest fortresses” is the USA.
But how will that happen? Consider the following prophecy:
1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:1-4)
(The sea associated with “Beast of the sea” according to Daniel 7:2-8 is the “Great Sea”; that sea, according to the Bible, is the Mediterranean Sea (Numbers 34:6-7; Joshua 1:4; 9:1; 23:4; Ezekiel 47:13-16).
The world will marvel because it did not believe that the European King of the North could possibly take over the USA. Since at least last decade, I have written that European Technology would be the key to Europe’s coming military success.
European technology is rising before our eyes. The world is changing in ways that the USA and its Anglo-Saxon descended allies do not realize–and it will not end well for them (Daniel 11:39; Isaiah 17:3; Daniel 8:24-25).
