Gold Over $1400 Today, a New Record

The price of gold rose to over USD$1400 per ounce today. That is an all-time record (to see a more up-to-date price, please click Financial Information).

This likely because of the “quantitative easing” announced last week by US Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, plus perhaps the following news played a role:

Robert Zoellick, the president of the World Bank, has called on bickering G20 nations to bring gold back into the global monetary system as an anchor to guide currency movements.

With talk of currency wars and disagreements over the US Federal Reserve’s policy of quantitative easing, the summit of the Group of 20 leading economies in Seoul this week is shaping up as the latest test of international co-operation. So we should ask: co-operation to what end?

The system should also consider employing gold as an international reference point of market expectations about inflation, deflation and future currency values. I warned in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect that because of what will happen to the US dollar that the world would likely decide that currencies need some backing in gold to restore confidence in paper currencies (and especially the one that will end up replacing the US dollar’s role as the world’s reserve currency.

Sadly, another prediction in the book is coming to pass.

As far as metals go, while what goes up can come down (and some believe that the price of gold will start to crash within six-eight months), the reality is that even if gold and silver tank (and they may or at least drop at times), the Bible shows that they will have value into the great tribulation (cf. Daniel 11:40-43; Revelation 18) while the US dollar will not (cf. Habakkuk 2).

The financial world is starting to understand some of this–but few really know how bad it will get. The US dollar will ultimately be worthless and the USA ultimately taken over because of its sins and debt.
