Greece still wants billions more, but says it will not accept further austerity

The Greeks are still having their own debt issues:

Greece may need a third bailout but would not accept new austerity measures, the Greek finance minister has said.

Yannis Stournaras said: “If there is need for further support to Greece, it will be in the order of about 10bn euros (£8.6bn; $13.4bn), or much smaller than the previous programmes.”

Greece has already received two bailouts totalling about 240bn euros.

Meanwhile, Angela Merkel has warned about writing down any more Greek debt…

Mr Stournaras told Greek newspaper Proto Thema on Sunday that any further bailout would be smaller than the previous two.

But he also warned that Greece would not accept any more forced spending cuts from its partners…Greece’s troika of lenders – the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the IMF – will review the aid programme in the autumn.

The European Union wants Greece in, but keeps being faced with having to bail Greece out. (Of course, the USA itself is getting bailed out by the international community now, but the way those bailouts are perceived is less severe than those in Greece. Yet, the USA is actually setting itself up to be in a worse situation than Greece, cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8).

That being said, for several years, I warned that there may be civil unrest in Europe in general as well as in Greece in particular–and some of this has happened. More severe social unrest and rioting is expected in Greece and many other parts of Europe.

The Bible itself teaches that Europe will have strong and weak parts (Daniel 2:41-43), reorganize (Revelation 17:12-13), and support a particular religion (Revelation 13). Europe already has strong and weak parts and keeps discussing a variety of forms of reorganization.

The USA itself is not immune to to civil unrest, and when it has a series of physical crises hit it and its debt hampers it, massive rioting is likely there as well. We are likely to riots in many places. Jesus foretold a time of “troubles” (Mark 13:8) and civil unrest and protests are consistent with that.
