At the end of this week, the federal moratorium protecting renters in the US from eviction will end. As the Delta variant of Covid-19 spreads quickly across the country, and with vaccination rates still low in many areas at highest risk of eviction, millions of families could lose the safe haven of their homes. A surge in evictions will have dire public health consequences, but it could still be avoided.
Originally enacted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) eleven months ago, the eviction moratorium was established to prevent the spread of the virus among families and individuals that could be made homeless. …
If historic patterns are any indication, the United States could experience a steep increase in eviction filings when the moratorium expires. Data from the Census Pulse survey indicate that more than 10 million tenants are behind on rent, and only a small fraction of the emergency rental assistance allocated by Congress has made it to tenants and landlords. Even where the aid reaches high-risk communities, it’s no guarantee that eviction will be avoided. Few programs restrict landlords from filing eviction cases against aid recipients, and even fewer have meaningful enforcement mechanisms.

So unless there is specific aid sufficient aid in the bill to allow tenants to catch up, millions of evictions are on the way.

Anyway, Congress did get involved last December–and it extended the eviction moratorium.
We will see if that might happen again. But the following suggests no one should count on it, though some are pushing for another extension:

Yet, unless laws change, on August 1, 2021, many will be legally obligated to pay rent they were ‘legally’ allowed to skip for much of 2020 and 2021. It is unlikely if any decent percentage of those not paying their rents will have the lump sum soon.
This will further hurt many tenants as well as landlords.

This is a combination of factors the economy has not seen since the 1930s. It’s worse than a technical recession, it’s a depression, and its effects will be felt for years, or even decades, to come.

90% of Lockdown Benefits at Only 10% of the Cost
Many top scientists agree that lockdowns don’t work. The virus will spread with or without a lockdown. Some measures make sense such as washing hands, keeping social distance and wearing masks in crowded spaces.
But there’s no evidence masks do any good at all when the wearer is alone, outdoors or at a reasonable distance from others.
We could have followed these basic rules and gotten 90% of the benefit of a lockdown at only 10% of the cost.
Those supporting lockdowns have ignored the costs of increased suicides, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, domestic violence and the depression and anxiety that result from lack of social interaction. There was never a good reason to close every bar, restaurant, salon, boutique and public space.

Yes, many COVID-blamed policies have hurt the economy, and were not necessary. Furthermore, this also resulted in dangerous increases in debt–and that will not end well according to the Bible (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8).
Yes, Jim Rickards was correct that the economic hits did not have to be this severe because of COVID-19.
So now what?

Many look to politicians to solve their problems, yet politicians will NOT be able to save the USA, nor its Anglo-Saxon descended allies (UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand).
Politicians have increased the USA debt, unnecessarily harmed the economy of the USA (and other nations) because of COVID policies, pushed anti-biblical ‘rights, and do not have a real solution. Consider the following prophecy:
16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err, And those who are led by them are destroyed (Isaiah 9:16).
The eviction moratorium was not a proper idea in the first place.
It stopped landlords from getting paid.
That was wrong.
And while many seem to despise property owners for their wealth, the reality is that landlording is difficult business (and no, I have never been a landlord, only a renter).
In the case of paying our office rent, our landlady uses the money we send her to pay her bills as she is retired. Our rent payment is possibly about 1/4-1/2 of her total income (the rest might be social security).
We, of course, always have paid our rent, and hence will not be impacted directly by the end of the eviction moratorium.
But the fact that there has been the moratorium for such a long time will mean that there are a lot of people facing eviction.
If ten million or so people are actually evicted, not only will that be bad for the evicted, it will also be bad for society.
Civil unrest is expected in the USA and massive evictions could trigger more unrest.
The USA needs national repentance and the Kingdom of God.
But that is not something that the politicians are seriously considering.
Pray, as Jesus said, for God’s Kingdom to come (Matthew 6:10).
