BRACING FOR IMPACT

U.S. government officials said the impact of the oil spill could be immense. “Until we stop the release of oil from the sea bed, it has the potential to be worse than anything that we’ve seen,” U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson told CNN.

In response to the BP spill, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is due to announce a division of the oversight body that ensures the safety of offshore drilling. [ID:nWAT014444]…

“It is going to touch everyone whose income relates to the water and recreation,” said Andrew Saunders, owner of Saunders Yachtworks, a boat repair company in Dauphin Island. “Even if the oil doesn’t hit, it will be like 9/11, when people sat on their hands for a couple of months to see what might happen.”…

Florida Governor Charlie Crist on Tuesday signed an executive order creating a Gulf Oil Spill Economic Recovery Task Force “to facilitate efforts by Florida businesses and industries in recovering from the loss of business and revenues due to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.”

Whether or not it is now “capped” shortly, the reality is that it will affect the USA in many ways. The Obama administration was always a bit skittish about more offshore oil drilling, and if they allow any additional amounts in the future, it will probably be on an exceptionally limited scale.

The USA imports tremendous amounts of oil. If it produced it internally, the deficits could be began to be addressed and many Americans could end up with better paying jobs.

Now, the odds of more offshore oil drilling opening up is getting more and more stacked against the drilling. Although I consider myself to be an environmentalist, I have long recognized the hypocrisy of those who drive vehicles fueled by/with oil who opposed drilling off the coast in California. Many seem to feel that it if okay to drill off the coast of other lands, as long as it is not theirs.

This does not mean that I do not believe that the oil firms involved should not have been prepared for this. They should have and should be held accountable any problems they caused or should have been able to reasonably foresee.

But now that this spill is continuing, it is more and more likely to also disrupt the fisheries as well as the local tourist markets on the Gulf Coast. All of these events suggest that there will be less income, hence less income taxes, and thus larger deficits. And higher unemployment.

Food shortages are also possible as some of the oil dispersants that are used do not result in actually clean water for fish. The Bible warns of a time when one third of sea life will be destroyed, and although much of that will be later, it is certainly possible that pockets of destruction will occur prior to the more massive one prophesied in Revelation 8:9 (which is well after the start of the Great Tribulation).

Food shortages are prophesied as part of the “beginning of sorrows” (which is before the Great Tribulation) and massive American debt is likely to be a factor in the start of the Great Tribulation (Habakkuk 2:1-8). Thus, this oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico appears to have prophetic ramifications.
