HONG KONG – Hong Kong’s leader said she respects the results of local elections in which pro-democracy forces scored a sweeping victory and said she would reflect on them seriously.
Beijing-friendly executive Carrie Lam issued a statement Monday saying the government would listen humbly to the opinions of the members of the public after Sunday’s local elections that saw a record number of voters deliver a stunning rebuke to Beijing.
“Quite a few are of the view that the results reflect people’s dissatisfaction with the current situation and the deep-seated problems in society,” Lam said.
The government will “listen to the opinions of members of the public humbly and seriously reflect”, her statement said.
During Sunday’s elections, opposition candidates won nearly 90 percent of contested seats, according to public broadcaster RTHK. Considering the protests and the ‘Lennon Walls,’ the election results are not surprising.
Here is more information about the Lennon walls:
Lennon Wall (Chinese: 連儂牆; Jyutping: lin4 nung4 coeng4), in the Hong Kong context, originally referred to the mosaic wall created during the Umbrella Movement, located at Central Government Complex, Harcourt Road, Admiralty. The wall is one of the major artworks of the Umbrella Movement as a collective artistic work of spontaneous free expression, demanding democracy in the elections of the territory’s top leaders.
It was a space of encouragement and solidarity, full of colourful Post-It notes (more than ten thousand pieces) with messages advocating for freedom, democracy and universal suffrage. Post types included epigrams, lyrics, poems, foreign words and hand-drawn graphics. During the 2014 Umbrella Movement protests, there were coordinated preservation efforts to digitally document the wall and related protest art.
After over two months of occupy actions by democracy activists, most of the artworks were removed from original positions prior to police clearance operations. Many protesters and citizens have tried to re-create some of the artworks, especially the Hong Kong Lennon Wall.

Lennon Walls in Hong Kong seem to be a way of protest. Many are concerned that China wants total control of Hong Kong very soon.
‘Legally,’ Hong Kong is supposed to be separate from China until 2047. I believe that its ‘separation’ will end before then–likely within a dozen years.
This election does not change my opinion as mine is highly influenced by biblical prophecies.
Bible prophecy tells of a coming military alliance between the powers in Asia which would include China and almost assuredly Taiwan and Hong Kong (Revelation 9:13-18; 16:12-16):
12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.” 16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon (Revelation 16:12-16).
The literal translation of the expression ‘the kings of the east’ in Revelation 16:12 is “the kings of the sunrise” and thus this would seem to have to include places like Taiwan, which is east of mainland China as well as a place where the sunrise happens first.
Hong Kong, because of its treaty, as well as its apparent prophetic place, will more closely align with China militarily later, despite what its protesters may prefer.

Hong Kong voters and protesters hope to delay China’s influence, but these protests are upsetting China. The protests, and this election, could be getting China to want more influence sooner.
Yes, the time will soon come when Hong Kong will have much more control from China. Lennon Walls, protests, and this election result will not stop that.
