ICG on Presidential Election Direction

COGwriter

In its latest newsletter, ICG’s Mark Armstrong wrote the following:

Our leaders are now chosen by a combination of people dependent on government for their support, either by employment or welfare subsidies and by throngs imported, or having come uninvited. That situation will now be compounded, short of Divine intervention. The melting pot, as our nation is known, has melted.

Our captivity is complete, the nation’s descent into something akin to Sodom assured. The results will be maddening and heartbreaking. Our formers allies will suffer, we will suffer, the world will learn what it means to be without a free and strong nation standing against tyranny as we devolve in to a socialistic mire of debt, regulation, and forced compliance with mandates that offend our conscience and violate our faith.

For now, we have a remnant of the blessings God has so generously provided in keeping with His promises. But our end of the covenant has been violated, by greed, by vice, by deceptions made to appear irresistible by corrupt media.

There is much going on around the world that contributes to prophetic fulfillment. But right now the ultimate loss of the nation for which the greatest generation fought, sacrificed and died to protect. The throngs demand something for nothing. And they’re getting it for now. But the gravy train is headed for a creaky bridge. Other peoples’ money has already run out, and more is being borrowed for the illusion of a false utopia that cannot last. In one of his most famous quotes Abraham Lincoln said something absolutely pertinent to our predicament. “America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”…

The United States of America has officially turned its back on God, and any hope of saving it from ruination has been dashed. It is a time for mourning, but also a time to muster determination as to how we will react as we watch this wave of evil overtake the land. God will not be mocked.

While he is entitled to his opinions, I would like to share some of mine and make some comments about some of what he wrote.

First, I have long advised praying for leaders as the Apostle Paul admonished (1 Timothy 2:1-3) as well as specifically to pray that God’s will would be done in the US presidential election (notice for example, my Monday article, US Presidential Election Tomorrow: Pray and Fast).

And I believe it was.  I believe, for example, that God allowed superstorm Sandy which likely affected the election, in the favor of Barack Obama.  Others may disagree, but for the past 2-3 years I felt that something would occur within a week or so of the 2012  US presidential election.  And while superstorm Sandy was still going on, I discussed this with some I work with prior to the election, and mentioned that I felt that the superstorm would affect the election.

The Bible clearly teaches, “the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses” (Daniel 4:25).

So, while Mark Armstrong blames (if that is the right word) Barack Obama’s victory on people dependent upon the government, I would suggest that God allowed Barack Obama to get re-elected (Daniel 4:25) so that prophecy would be fulfilled and His will would be done (although I do not disagree with Mark Armstrong that voter greed was a carnal factor here).  The election is over and Christians in the USA should pray for Barack Obama and other leaders there.

Second, yes I do agree that the USA is heading towards the direction of Sodom, and posted something about that Wednesday (Two States Approve Same-Sex Marriage, Two Approved Limited Marijuana Use).  And since that post, the State of Washington’s votes were finalized and it too approved homosexual marriage–and that is not a good thing for the USA–three USA states approved homosexual marriage on Tuesday and another (Minnesota) said it would not move to constitutionally block it.  A news story yesterday, sadly and correctly stated, “Tuesday’s victories mark more than just a win for the gay rights movement; they represent a larger demographic shift in our country” (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/11/washington-approves-same-sex-marriage-marking-shift-in-nations-views/).  And that shift is not good (though the media, by and large, tends to act otherwise).

Third, yes I agree that greed and vice are big problems in the USA and the election results do highlight at least one form greed–the fact that the majority seems to believe that it can take more from the minority, to cite one example.

Fourth, while I would NOT characterize the re-election of Barack Obama as definitive proof that the “The United States of America has officially turned its back on God,” I would contend that it shows that the USA has become more secular (as well as the fact that a Mormon elder was his opponent).

Fifth, I would characterize the increasing acceptance of “homosexual marriage,” however, as further proof that “The United States of America has officially turned its back on God.”

Sixth, I would not hint that if Mitt Romney one that USA election this would have proved to have “hope of saving it from ruination.”  The USA has already been turning more and more away from biblical morality.   Simply voting for Mitt Romney (if he would have won) as his recently stated positions on some social issues was in less conflict with scripture than some of Barack Obama’s, does not mean that the USA would not still go down the path toward destruction.  See for example, Voting for the Lesser of Two Evils is Still not Good and Romney and Obama on ‘Social Issues’.

Seventh, I hope that some of the election results this week will serve as a kind of “wake-up” call that the USA has turned further away from biblical morality.  Thus, since national repentance seems nearly impossible at this stage, that individuals will place less faith in a carnal man to save the USA, but more faith in Jesus Christ and the establishment of His kingdom.

Personal repentance, not misplaced nationalism, is what everyone needs.

Followers of the true God are also told to:

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and depart from evil (Proverbs 3:5-7).

Those truly concerned about the results of this election should pray for “The will of the Lord be done” (Acts 21:14) and look at improving their own relationship with their Creator.

The time is fast approaching when the USA, despite its military strength (cf. Daniel 11:39) will be no more.
