ILO: About half of all workers worldwide are in danger of having their livelihoods destroyed because of the pandemic; HWA: Universal Prosperity: Is It Possible?

BBC reported the following:

1.5bn workers at risk of having livelihood destroyed, especially in informal economy – UN labour organisation … Ukraine’s national airline has cancelled a special flight taking seasonal contract workers to the UK, where they can earn four times as much as at home.

About half of all workers worldwide are in danger of having their livelihoods destroyed because of the pandemic, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has warned.

The figure equates to more than 1.5 billion people.

Covid-19 has infected more than 3.1 million people around the world and killed nearly 220,000.

The ILO says those with informal work arrangements are most in danger – many are in the retail sector, manufacturing and food services industry.

Already, two billion informal workers have seen their wages fall by a global average of 60% during the first month that the pandemic unfolded in their region.

“For millions of workers, no income means no food, no security and no future. Millions of businesses around the world are barely breathing,” said ILO Director-General Guy Ryder.

“They have no savings or access to credit. These are the real faces of the world of work. If we don’t help them now, they will simply perish,” he added. https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-52466471

Over 26 million in the USA have lost jobs. But because of the strength of the USA dollar, etc., they should get money to be able to buy food and eat.

Others in various parts of the world will not fare as well.

The world is facing the real risk of massively increased poverty. In the CCOG, we have felt the need to send funds to various nations in Africa to help reduce hunger there. But, we realize that is only a temporary measure–though biblically appropriate:

27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in the power of your hand to do so. (Proverbs 3:27)

10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Galatians 6:10)

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. (James 2:14-17)

We in the CCOG strive to live “by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4) and to be “doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22).

Yes, we try to help where we can. And, we actually do help!

Now, there is a solution to poverty. Notice the following from the late Pastor General of the old Worldwide Church of God, Herbert W. Armstrong:

CAN YOU imagine a world where all poverty is banished? Well, I have news for you. Yes, good news. You’re going to see it, and in your lifetime, but not the way that men think.

Does a world of universal prosperity sound fantastic? Why should it? All material wealth comes out of the ground, and there’s enough in this earth to provide plenty, even luxury for everyone. Stop and think a moment. Why is today’s world filled with so much poverty, hunger and want? Why do the few live in comparative wealth and the many in dire need?

One idea in circulation today is that God Almighty created this world to be poor; that God hates the rich and loves the poor. We hear a lot about “God’s poor.” Does God hate the successful and the prosperous? Is prosperity a sin?

Listen to what God himself has said in his inspired revelation to mankind, the Holy Bible. Through John, God says, “I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health… .”

In the first Psalm you read this: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly … but his delight is in the law of the Lord… . Whatsoever he doeth shall prosper” (verses 1-3). The man who walks God’s way, who delights in God’s law and is obedient in whatsoever he does,

God says shall prosper. That’s a promise from God Almighty.

Notice Genesis 39:2-3: “And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man… . The Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand.” Joseph served God (verse 4).

Psalm 84 says: “… no good thing will [God] withhold from them that walk uprightly. 0 Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee” (verses 11-12). Blessings are promised. Do you know that God set before his people blessings on the one hand and cursings on the other? And he said to man, “Choose.” Man has chosen curses and death, when God Almighty intended that man should choose happiness and blessings, prosperity and eternal life.

But God warns through David against setting our hearts even on the prosperity that he gives. That’s what’s wrong with this world.

The way to happiness and prosperity revolves around the true gospel of Jesus Christ. He preached the kingdom of God, which means the government of God — God’s government over our lives and over society as a whole; over all of this earth.

The laws of God’s government are the ways of love; of giving rather than of receiving; of serving, not getting the best of others. It is a matter of doing, not of inactive hearing. It’s a matter of diligence — applying God’s way, not the way of laziness. The Ten Commandments summarize that entire law. The Ten Commandments are the way into prosperity and financial success, if you understand the real meaning and spirit back of the Ten Commandments; their purpose according to the spirit of the law rather than just the letter.

The basic law of God’s government is the only way to peace, to true happiness and to lasting prosperity. But this world doesn’t believe it, and this world has not found prosperity. All the world’s ills, all suffering, all inequality and injustice, yes, and even all poverty have come from transgressing the spiritual law — the Ten Commandments.

Sin is the transgression of that law (I John 3:4). The apostle Paul said that that law is spiritual, holy, just and good. Many people don’t believe that today, and that’s why there’s so much poverty in this world.

To transgress the ways that lead to prosperity, to health, to peace, to happiness and joy — is sin, and the way of sin is not good for us. It brings penalties, and one of the penalties that we are reaping in this world is poverty. God Almighty never intended it. Sin, then, is the cause of poverty, of suffering, of unhappiness and even of death.

If all men would put their lives under the government of God — if they would live by God’s laws — all soon would be prosperous.

But this world has transgressed the laws of God. In the professing Christian world people have been brought up to believe that “the law is done away” — that we mustn’t obey that law today or we’ll be under a curse. That’s what many in the professing Christian world believe. Is it any wonder we have inequality, suffering and poverty? If only this world will turn to God Almighty and to God’s ways and live God’s ways. You’d just be dumbfounded at the result.

Jesus put the matter in its true relationship when he commanded us to seek first the kingdom of God. That is, to submit our lives to the government of God (the kingdom of God is the government of God), to obey God’s commandments, to live the life that God directs in his Word, to really seek after God and his ways, rather than setting our whole heart and mind on seeking after money. Jesus Christ promised that when we have done that first, material prosperity shall then be added.

But you’ll need to find the spiritual riches first because they’re the more valuable. (Plain Truth, 1984)

But humans, in general, do not believe God and will not want to wait for His governance in the Kingdom of God.

So, what will they do?

They will look to other human beings. The will look to aspects of human unity.

Pope Francis wants Europe to stay united. A reader tipped me off to this today:

While Pope Francis prayed to a dead woman for unity, the Bible tells of a man that will more fully unite Europe (Daniel 2:41-43; Revelation 17:12-13). Although the Vatican keeps pushing for a united Europe, after it is united as prophesied, Europe will turn against the Church of Rome (cf. Revelation 17:15-18).

Adolf Hitler arose after a time of economic woes in Germany. Someone worse will lead a future European power.

The Bible shows that a certain man, who initially has little backing, will arise making various promises of peace and prosperity:

25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. (Daniel 8:25, KJV).

23 And after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people. 24 He shall enter peaceably, even into the richest places of the province; and he shall do what his fathers have not done, nor his forefathers: he shall disperse among them the plunder, spoil, and riches; and he shall devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time. (Daniel 11:23-24, NKJV)

He will gain power. He “shall prosper and thrive” (Daniel 8:24).

He will destroy the USA (Daniel 11:39; see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses) and its British-descended allies (Isaiah 17:3; Daniel 8:24-25). He will violate all the Ten Commandments (for details, see our free online book: The Ten Commandments: The Decalogue, Christianity, and the Beast).

Yet, he will lift many nations out of poverty and make many wealthy (Revelation 18) and initially be supportive of the Vatican’s European and ecumenical agendas.

People around the world will accept his false ‘gospel.’ A human utopia will be promised. Signs and lying wonders will be accepted as proof (cf. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12).

Most people will accept that and the world will end up worshiping that coming Beast:

8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (Revelation 13:8)

He will end up being a totalitarian dictator that Jesus will have to destroy at His coming (Revelation 17:14; Revelation 19).

Then the age that Herbert W. Armstrong wrote about where people observe the Ten Commandments and submit to God’s government will be in place during the millennial Kingdom of God.

Steps are moving towards the rising up of this coming European leader.
