Vladimir Putin’s charm tour of Germany and Austria last weekend is a significant sign of change to come.
To the U.S. and European press Putin is only a step or two away from Hitler reincarnated (thanks chiefly to Bill Browder). It serves the purpose of maintaining the post WWII institutional order.
But, Putin is always nothing but relentlessly patient in his diplomatic efforts, even when European leaders, like Merkel, treat him and Russia poorly. …
So, color me surprised when I see the official photos of his meeting with Merkel carefully framed to paint him in a positive light. …
Optics are important and this image captures what both parties wanted to convey. This meeting is the beginning of a shift in the relationship between Germany and Russia for the better.
And the question is why?
The obvious answer is necessity brought about by pressure being placed on both countries by Donald Trump through sanctions and tariffs and their shared interests represented by the Nordstream 2 pipeline.
But, this meeting went far deeper than that, especially since Merkel’s Foriegn Minister Heiko Maas boldly proclaimed that Europe needs an alternative to the SWIFT system of international electronic payments so as to keep global trade alive while the U.S. further weaponizes the U.S. dollar.
The U.S. just seized another $5 billion of Russian ‘oligarch’ money using Credit Suisse as its enforcement arm.
Again, the question is why?
Why would Merkel allow Maas to state this publicly and why was it picked up by that establishment stenographer The Financial Times?
Why is Merkel, their main mouthpiece, making googly eyes with Putin who, like Trump, represents an existential threat to their continued rule and is the leader of the pendulum swing away from globalism?
If Trump’s goal, as presented by much of the European press (as presented here by Gilbert Doctorow), is to regain complete subjugation of Europe to American dominance, then this seems counter-productive. …

Notice two reports about the US control of money:
With the US unveiling a new set of sanctions against Russia on Friday, Moscow said it would definitely respond to Washington’s latest sanctions and, in particular, it is accelerating efforts to abandon the American currency in trade transactions, said Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
“The time has come when we need to go from words to actions, and get rid of the dollar as a means of mutual settlements, and look for other alternatives,” he said in an interview with International Affairs magazine, quoted by RT. …
Previously, Russian Energy Minister Aleksandr Novak said that a growing number of countries are interested in replacing the dollar as a medium in global oil trades and other transactions.
“There is a common understanding that we need to move towards the use of national currencies in our settlements. There is a need for this, as well as the wish of the parties,” Novak said.
According to the minister, it concerns both Turkey and Iran, with more countries likely to join the growing dedollarization wave.
“We are considering an option of payment in national currencies with them. This requires certain adjustments in the financial, economic, and banking sectors” to accomplish. Last week, we reported that the Kremlin was interested in trading with Ankara using the Russian ruble and the Turkish lira. Germany Calls For Global Payment System Independent Of The US

Heiko Maas has reacted — to the US’s withdrawal from important agreements, the damage to German interests, to Trump’s accusations, attacks and lies. Maas has written a commentary for the Handelsblatt newspaper on realigning the trans-Atlantic relationship, headlined “We will not allow the US to go over our heads.” …
Maas believes Europe must be in a position to form a counterweight to the US and act with sovereignty. “Europe United” is what Maas wants to be able to put on the scales “when America retreats.” …
In order to improve Europe’s strategic position, Germany’s top diplomat has called for the establishment of a European security and defense union. Maas sees the increase in military spending in Germany, vehemently demanded by Donald Trump, as a trans-Atlantic contribution — but to him, higher expenditure only makes sense as a “separate European project for the future.”
Until that happens, Maas sees the EU as a stronghold of rule-based order, one that abides by accords such as the Paris climate agreement, WTO rules and UN resolutions. With the US increasingly unavailable as a reliable partner, Maas wants to work more closely with like-minded countries …
Maas outlines how Europe can defend its own interests against Donald Trump’s attacks. For the foreign minister, Trump’s unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal (JCPOA) crossed a “red line.” Trump replaced an international agreement that was aimed at making the region safer with a US sanctions regime that could bleed the Iranian economy dry. Europe “must form a counterweight — as difficult as that can be,” he says. …
Heiko Maas notes a general estrangement from the United States: “The US and Europe have been drifting apart for years. Overlapping values?
Well, Russia supports the Paris climate agreement, is also unhappy with US trade policies, and it supports the Iranian deal. Donald Trump is accelerating the separation of Europe from the USA, while also pushing the Europeans closer to Russia.
While Germany (as well as the USA) has essentially taken the UK’s side on the nerve agent attack, consider also the following from a German source related to Russia:

Whereas London is escalating its accusations against the Russian government – regardless of the fact that the Salisbury poison attack has not yet been solved – German heads of state and government are already again signaling to Russia the possibility of some extent of cooperation. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was the first western head of state to congratulate Vladimir Putin on his electoral victory. “The bilateral relations between our countries have traditionally been close, relying on a solid foundation,” he wrote. “We have always seen close cooperation between Russia and Germany … as an important pillar for common European efforts to establish and strengthen a long-term common world order on our continent.”[10] He “hopes and wishes,” Steinmeier writes, “that we will be able to counter alienation on our continent.” This marks the first counterpoint to the current, presumably only short-term, British leadership in EU foreign policy. 03/22/18 https://www.german-foreign-policy.com/en/news/detail/7572/
Germany will work some with the UK, but it also considers that the UK has betrayed Germany’s vision of a united Europe.
Germany wants to cooperate with Russia. In 2015, German Chancellor Merkel brought up trade and other forms of cooperation with Russia and its allies, “German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that the European Union would be open to talks towards the launch of free trade negotiations with the new Eurasian Economic Union. Merkel said at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the possibility of launching talks had been discussed at EU level” (see Merkel’s European-Eurasian Trade Zone Proposal).

President Putin, basing his argument on common membership of the WTO, has contended that both the EU and EAEU would be able forge a wider pan-European association to mutual advantage. Russia is quite willing to cooperate with Germany and the rest of Europe–especially against the UK and the USA. It has long been my view that Russia will cooperate with the King of the North that will arise in Europe.
Notice something that the old Radio Church of God published back in 1962:

Yes, I too, expect that Russia will make a deal with the Europeans–and actually wrote about that years before (see German-Russian relations a prelude to the end of USA dominance?) I saw the above (see Bundeswehr wants EU nationals to be soldiers). Some deals have been hinted at in this century (see Greece begs Germany’s Merkel not to throw them ‘overboard,’ while it makes deals with Russia; see also Vladimir Putin allegedly helped stop a Grexit).
Partially because of Brexit and Donald Trump, steps are aligning for Europe and Russia to cooperate more–though this will be temporary.
Notice also the following prophecy:
39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain. (Daniel 11:39)
This is a prophecy of the European King of the North taking over the USA–the power with the strongest fortresses. There are scriptures in the Old and New Testament that prove that the King of the North is a European power–for some details watch: Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?
It has long been my contention when the above is fulfilled, that the King of the North will grant part or all of Alaska and perhaps even also part of Canada as included in dividing “the land for gain.” Russia has long had interest in getting Alaska back. In the 20th century, Joseph Stalin hoped to invade Alaska and in the 21st century Russian academic Igor Panari claimed Russia would end up with Alaska when the USA was divided (see Russia and Ukraine: Their Origins and Prophesied Future).
The Bible is clear that Russia will be a significant military power in the end and cause fear (Daniel 11:44-45; Jeremiah 50:41-43 ; see also Russia and Ukraine: Their Origins and Prophesied Future).
There will be temporary cooperation between Russia and the Europeans, and this will not end well for the USA, UK, or Canada for that matter (cf. Daniel 11:39; see also Canada in Prophecy: What Does Bible Prophecy, Catholic Prophecy, and other Predictions Suggest About the Future of Canada?).
Germany wants cooperation with Russia, and seems to not respect the UK.
Bible prophecy shows that the current Anglo-American dominated world order will NOT continue (cf. Daniel 11:39, 8:23-25; also watch End of the Anglo-American Order and/or The New World Order Is Leaving the US Behind).
More cooperation between Germany and Russia is consistent with that.
