Islamic State militants have killed at least 500 members of Iraq’s Yazidi ethnic minority during their offensive in the north, Iraq’s human rights minister told Reuters on Sunday.
Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said the Sunni militants had also buried alive some of their victims, including women and children. Some 300 women were kidnapped as slaves, he added.
“We have striking evidence obtained from Yazidis fleeing Sinjar and some who escaped death, and also crime scene images that show indisputably that the gangs of the Islamic States have executed at least 500 Yazidis after seizing Sinjar,” Sudani said in a telephone interview, in his first remarks to the media on the issue.
Sinjar is the ancient home of the Yazidis, one of the towns captured by the Sunni militants who view the community as “devil worshipers” and tell them to convert to Islam or face death.
Sunday deadline
A deadline passed at midday on Sunday for 300 Yazidi families to convert to Islam or face death at the hands of the militants. It was not immediately clear whether the Iraqi minister was talking about the fate of those families or others in the conflict.

At least 20,000 Iraqi civilians who were besieged by jihadists on a mountain have managed to flee after US air raids on Islamic State (Isis) forces, officials have said.
Shawkat Barbahari, an official from the autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq, said 30,000 people had escaped to Syria and then been escorted back into Iraqi Kurdistan by Kurdish forces. A spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Iraq said officials had been reporting to the UN that 15,000 to 20,000 people had escaped the siege. Last January, President Obama dismissed the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) as a mere junior varsity terrorist outfit compared to al Qaeda. “The analogy we use around here sometimes, and I think is accurate,” he told The New Yorker, “is if a JV team puts on Lakers uniforms that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant.”
Flash forward to this summer. Islamist radicals control vast swaths of land across Iraq and Syria, and this week crossed the border into Lebanon. Their victims’ heads festoon telephone wires in Raqqa, Syria, and they have posted videos online showing mass executions of prostrate Iraqis. Other terror groups are rallying to their black banner. ISIS has been so successful that at the end of June it shortened its name to simply the Islamic State (IS), with its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi assuming the title of caliph. President Obama may think they are j.v., but they clearly see themselves as big league.

The Islamic State wishes to kill everyone that will not convert to its brand of Islam. This includes Shi’ite and other Muslims, Catholics, Protestants, and others. Its goal is to dominate the world and make everyone their type of Muslim. The Islamic State will fail in that objective.
However, it is still dangerous and will likely strike out at Western targets, including those related to the USA as it indicated in the past, as well as yesterday (see Obama says he will not allow Islamic State to carve out caliphate, Islamic State wants to take Washington, D.C. and destroy NYC.).

(CNN) — The U.S. military carried out a new series of airstrikes Sunday against ISIS targets in Iraq, marking the heaviest flurry of activity since the operations began.
In five hours the military struck five targets, including armed vehicles and a mortar position, U.S. Central Command said.
The strikes began at 9:15 a.m. local time (2:15 a.m. ET), the military said.
“All aircraft exited the strikes areas safely,” Central Command said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Kurdish forces recaptured two towns from ISIS, a senior Kurdish official said.
“Mahmour and Gweyr are in Kurdish hands,” Qubad Talabani, deputy prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government told CNN on Sunday. The Islamist militant group had seized the towns Wednesday on a march toward Irbil.

The Islamic State may accelerate their plans for terrorism as a result. But as I have said before, I do not believe its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi will become the biblical King of the South.
