‘Justin Trudeau Scored A Victory, But He’s Facing A More Divided Country’
Justin Trudeau
Canada held an election yesterday, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal party ended up with the most seats in Parliament:
Justin Trudeau Scored A Victory, But He’s Facing A More Divided Country
October 22, 2019
Canadians gave Liberals a second mandate to continue the work they started in 2015, but a measurable division has emerged. The Liberals were shut out of seats in Alberta and Saskatchewan, prompting Trudeau to specifically reach out to voters there.
“And to Canadians in Alberta and Saskatchewan, know that you are an essential part of our great country,” the Liberal leader said. “I’ve heard your frustration and I want to be there to support you. Let us all work hard to bring our country together.” …
The environment was a major defining issue that differentiated the Liberal and Conservative platforms. The Tories picked up more seats in the Prairies Monday, where voters welcomed the stronger opposition to Trudeau’s climate plan.
Yet the Liberals’ climate plan is exactly why so many young people showed up Monday night in Montreal to cheer on Trudeau. …
By late Monday, the Liberals won 156 seats, short of their 177 when Parliament dissolved last month. Despite losing their first-term majority, it’s a massive sigh of relief for the Liberals after a wild 40-day campaign. https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/justin-trudeau-election-results_ca_5dae483fe4b0422422ca44bb
Trudeau Overcomes Scandal To Win 2nd Term As PM, But Fails To Secure Majority
October 22, 2019
Justin Trudeau has overcome a raft of scandals, ranging from the juvenile and relatively benign (the ‘blackface’ scandal that erupted last month after Time magazine published photos of Trudeau wearing brown face paint at a costume party in 2001), to the blatantly corrupt (he and his aids tried to impede the criminal prosecution of SNC Lavalin, an engineering firm based in Quebec), and won a second term as Canada’s prime minister. …
Trudeau’s ostensible commitment to feminism and bolstering the rights of minorities was exposed as cynical political posturing by the series of scandals that marred the final year of his first term. https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/trudeau-overcomes-scandal-win-2nd-term-pm-fails-secure-majority
LILLEY: A Trudeau win means a divided Canada
Even with the most seats Monday, the results are nothing short of a loss for Justin Trudeau and the Liberals. …
After winning 184 seats four years ago, Trudeau is now in minority territory. …The entire Liberal Party has become all about Justin Trudeau. It’s not a political party anymore, it’s a movement as Trudeau calls it or a cult as his detractors call it. …
In Quebec, where the Liberals had hoped to win more seats and save their majority status, voters turned overwhelmingly to the Bloc Quebecois. It’s one of the stains of Trudeau’s record that separatism is on the rise again. The Bloc were left for dead and just 10 months ago didn’t even have a leader.
Now the party that wants to take Quebec out of Canada is a powerhouse again.
Even with Trudeau’s Liberals being reduced to a minority we can expect a separatist sentiment to rise up in another part of the country, Western Canada. Alberta and Saskatchewan overwhelmingly backed the Conservatives and voted for their own future and the future of their oil and gas industry.
The future of that industry is now in jeopardy as the Liberals hold government but must turn to the NDP and Greens for support. Both of those parties hold the view that there should be no more pipelines built and oil should stay in the ground.
Voters in Western Canada will now look with disdain on their fellow Canadians who have turned their backs on a key driver of Canada’s wealth. There has been increasing talk of turning off the equalization taps to Eastern Canada if the oil industry is not supported. …
The calls of the “West Wants Out” will only get louder now. …
This election campaign may be over, but the discord is still loud and clear. 10/21/19 https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/lilley-a-trudeau-win-means-a-divided-canada
My family and I have been in Canada since last Thursday. Because of that, I have heard a lot more about Canadian politics than I normally would have.
Because of disappointments and broken promises, the Liberals were expected to lose seats in Parliament.
Prior to the election, the Canadian polls had repeatedly indicated a tighter race. But the Liberals did better than many thought that they would.
Similar to the USA, there is more division in Canada. While there is probably more ‘moral’ division in the USA, both nations have major economic divisions.
Essentially, in both countries, one side is basically against the other side.
Increasingly, the USA and Canada are becoming more polarized. And the divided sides do not trust each other as both sides see the other side as promoting their destruction.
Jesus taught:
25 Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. (Matthew 12:25)
17 Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls. (Luke 11:17)
That will not end well for Canada and the USA–nor others that do the same.
Canada, and the rest of the world, needs the Kingdom of God.
