California Wildfires: A Glimpse of Malachi’s “Healing” Pre-Messiah Fires?

January 10, 2025

A series of California wildfires erupted on Tuesday. Fueled by strong winds, which gusted to more than 70 mph in some spots and dry conditions, the fires burned for four days. The disaster took a horrific toll, killing at least ten people and forcing an estimated 180,000 from their homes while burning through 20,000 acres and 5,300 structures. The fire burned through Los Angeles residential areas, destroying homes and leaving over 450,000 without electricity. …

Natural disasters of epic proportions are described in the Bible, and the wildfires are as hinted at by King David as serving God in the pre-Messiah period:

He makes the winds His messengers, fiery flames His servants. Psalms 104:4

The Prophet Malachi describes wildfires as a messenger of God:

Behold, I am sending My messenger to clear the way before Me, and the Lord whom you seek shall come to His Temple suddenly. As for the angel of the covenant that you desire, he is already coming. But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can hold out when he appears? For he is like a smelter’s fire and like fuller’s lye. (Malachi 3:1-2)

Though the process is undoubtedly painful, the Talmud  (Nedarim 8b) describes it as healing: https://israel365news.com/399324/california-wildfires-a-glimpse-of-malachis-healing-pre-messiah-fires/

While Jesus will come again, and these fires are in that sense “pre-Messianic,” no they are not related to Malachi 3:1-2. The messenger being described is a type of Elijah to come.

It is important to note that Jesus was not like a smelter’s fire in His first coming (outside of Malachi, smelting/refining fire is not mentioned in the Bible again until a future time Revelation 3:18)–and that is the time the Bible associates with the LORD and refining has to do with punishment and vengeance (Jeremiah 7:7-9)–these did not occur with Jesus’ first coming. While John the Baptist fulfilled the first half of the verses in Malachi 3:1 (and that is the only portion of Malachi 3:1 that Jesus quotes related to John the Baptist in Matthew 11:10 and Luke 7:27) and 4:5, there is absolutely no biblical indication that he fulfilled (or even could have fulfilled) verses 3:2 or 4:6. More on that can be found in the article: The Elijah Heresies.

This fire is considered the most destructive ever in the Los Angeles area (see ‘Apocalyptic’ fires are the most destructive in Southern California’s history ), it also is expected to be very costly. Bloomberg reports:

January 10, 2025

Firefighters made some progress in taming several fires that reduced entire neighborhoods in Los Angeles to ash, though new blazes have started up as the toll of the destruction continues to rise. At least 10 people died, some 10,000 structures burned, and 180,000 residents have been forced to flee. Accuweather raised its estimate of economic losses to as much as $150 billion. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2025-01-10/cost-of-los-angeles-fires-soars-toward-150-billion

Now here are some scriptures related to weather, fire, and wind:

25 For He commands and raises the stormy wind, (Psalm 107:25)

17 He casts out His hail like morsels;
Who can stand before His cold?
18 He sends out His word and melts them;
He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow. (Psalm 147:17-18)

1 … O Lord my God, You are very great:
You are clothed with honor and majesty,
2 Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment,
Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.

3 He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters,
Who makes the clouds His chariot,
Who walks on the wings of the wind,
4 Who makes His angels spirits,
His ministers a flame of fire. (Psalm 104:1-4)

7 “I also withheld rain from you, When there were still three months to the harvest. I made it rain on one city, I withheld rain from another city. One part was rained upon, And where it did not rain the part withered. 8 So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water, But they were not satisfied; Yet you have not returned to Me,” Says the Lord. (Amos 4:7-8)

8 Fire and hail, snow and clouds;
Stormy wind, fulfilling His word; (Psalm 148:8)

God controls the weather. Jesus’ disciples got to see this first hand:

23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. 24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. 25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 So the men marveled, saying, “Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” (Matthew 8:23-27)

Presumably, the disciples learned something from that experience.

Weather is sometimes used by God for judgment and correction.

Notice a few such warnings related to fire:

12 O house of David! Thus says the Lord:

“Execute judgment in the morning;
And deliver him who is plundered
Out of the hand of the oppressor,
Lest My fury go forth like fire
And burn so that no one can quench it,
Because of the evil of your doings.

13 “Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley,
And rock of the plain,” says the Lord,
“Who say, ‘Who shall come down against us?
Or who shall enter our dwellings?’
14 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings,” says the Lord;
“I will kindle a fire in its forest,
And it shall devour all things around it.”‘ (Jeremiah 21:12-14)

11 The Lord has fulfilled His fury,
He has poured out His fierce anger.
He kindled a fire in Zion,
And it has devoured its foundations. (Lamentations 4:11)

Various ones associated with Hollywood descend from the house of David (see also the free online book: Lost Tribes and Prophecies: What will happen to Australia, the British Isles, Canada, Europe, New Zealand and the United States of America?).

Michael Snyder posted the following related to the Los Angeles fires and lightening strikes:

America’s Political And Financial Capitals Were Just Hit By Lightning, And Now Our Entertainment Capital Is Being Devastated By Fire

The past couple of weeks have been really, really strange.  On New Year’s Eve, four of the most iconic buildings in the entire country were all hit by lightning.  In our political capital, the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol were hit.  In our financial capital, the Empire State Building and One World Trade Center were hit.  Subsequently, there were terror attack in New Orleans and Las Vegas on New Year’s Day.  And now here we are a week later, and our entertainment capital is being absolutely devastated by fire.

In some areas of Los Angeles, it literally looks like a nuclear weapon exploded.  Some of the most iconic locations in the Los Angeles area have been wiped out, and even Hollywood Boulevard is being evacuated

Sadly, large numbers of expensive homes have already been lost, and this includes the homes of many big names in the entertainment industry

By the afternoon, the Santa Ana wind-fueled fire had claimed the homes of more than half a dozen A-listers in the community perched above the Pacific ocean: Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, John Goodman, Anthony Hopkins, Eugene Levy and Miles Teller all lost homes there, according to social media posts and reporting by Page Six.

The Palisades home of Adam Brody and Leighton Meester, who walked the Golden Globes carpet together on Sunday, also burned down.

People Magazine has published a list of 47 major celebrities that have lost their homes so far.

We have seen homes owned by celebrities get burned down in past fires, but we have never seen so many get burned down all at once. …

It will take years to recover, and Los Angeles will never look the same after this. https://endoftheamericandream.com/americas-political-and-financial-capitals-were-just-hit-by-lightning-and-now-our-entertainment-capital-is-being-devastated-by-fire/

Let me add that most famous Hollywood celebrities do NOT live in Hollywood. Many live near Malibu and in the area affected by the Palisades fire. An area that has been in a drought the past several months.

To see some of the devastation, there is a video in the following tweet:

Hollywood has long advocated sexual immorality and various perverse agendas.

People who advocate acceptance of sexual pervesion as harmless may also wish to notice something else that God had the Prophet Amos write would happen some time after the drought (Amos 4:7-8) and weather problems:

11 “I overthrew some of you,
As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

12 “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel;
Because I will do this to you,
Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”   (Amos 4:11-12)

God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah for their pride and acceptance of sexual immorality and perversion. If the Anglo-American nations do not repent of the direction that they are going, they will be overthrown relatively soon (cf. Romans 1:18-32; see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel). People who profess to believe the Bible need to take a stand against those who advocate sexual immorality and other behaviors that the Bible condemns.

Weather events should serve as a wake-up call to all for repentance.

Notice some connection to God’s wrath for those who will not heed:

11 But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear. 12 Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the Lord of hosts. 13 Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen,” says the Lord of hosts. (Zechariah 7:11-13)

30 And the Lord shall make the glory of his voice to be heard, and shall shew the terror of his arm, in the threatening of wrath, and the dame of devouring fire: he shall crush to pieces with whirlwind, and hailstones. (Isaiah 30:30, DRB)

23 ‘The whole land is brimstone, salt, and burning; it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor does any grass grow there, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in His anger and His wrath.’ 24 All nations would say, ‘Why has the Lord done so to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?’ 25 Then people would say: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers…(Deuteronomy 29:23-25)

But while most people will not heed God, you can, if you will respond to God’s calling.
