M&M: It’s Called ‘Junk’ For Good Reasons; COGwriter: False religion has false promises
Wall Street
Tony Sagami of Money and Markets wrote the following:
It’s Called ‘Junk’ For Good Reasons
November 22, 2917
I can’t count the number of people who have diligently contributed to their 401(k)s and who have saved money their whole lives so they could have a comfortable retirement.
However, the Federal Reserve has pushed interest rates so low that all those responsible savers must face two bad options:
Option #1: Starve! With interest rates just a few baby steps above zero, a portfolio of CDs, bonds, and Treasuries barely pays anything. At a 1% yield, a $500,000 portfolio would only pay out $5,000 a year! Even $1 million would only generate $10,000 a year in net income. Who can live on that?
Option #2: Take A Lot of Risk. Since starving isn’t a very appealing option, most investors choose to take on more risk to generate more income. For many, that means jumping into the stock market. But too many savers have begun buying low-credit low-quality bonds because they pay a higher yield.
I’m talking about junk bonds.
The reason that junk bonds pay more is because the issuing company has lousy credit. Just like with people, the worse your credit rating … the higher the interest rate you are charged to borrow money.
And for good reason. People and businesses with lousy credit scores often fail to pay back the money that they borrow. Junk bond investors get paid more, but the odds are significantly higher that they lose their principle.
That’s a pretty severe downside, but investors don’t seem to care. https://www.moneyandmarkets.com/called-junk-good-reasons-89702
Tony Sagami is correct that people often look for what seems to satisfy their more immediate desires, without considering the consequences. The truth about junk bonds is that they can end up being worth nothing and the investor can lose everything.
More importantly, many these days accept false religion.
They think it is fine because of how they feel about it and/or because of how others feel about it.
Its promises are false.
The Bible warns about it.
Here are some scriptures from a web page listing some verses associated with false religion:
2 John 1:9-11 ESV
Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.
1 John 4:1-3 ESV
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already
2 Corinthians 11:14 ESV
And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
1 Timothy 4:1 ESV
Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,
John 14:6 ESV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
2 John 1:10-11 ESV
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.
Leviticus 19:31 ESV
“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.
Revelation 22:19 ESV
And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
Mark 7:7 ESV
In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’
Matthew 24:1-51 ESV
Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.” As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the close of the age?” And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. …
The Bible is full of warnings that there will be those claiming to follow Jesus who are really following a false religion.
Just like junk bonds that fail, those who follow vain and false religion will not, without later repentance, be able to enter the Kingdom of God.
There are three other verses I would like to quote for all to consider:
prove all things; hold fast that which is good; (1 Thessalonians 5:21, ERV)
contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. (Jude 3, NASB)
outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. (Revelation 22:15, NKJV)
Most people have not tried to “prove all things” when it comes to religion.
Most people do not know what “the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints” even is, hence they cannot earnestly contend for it. To assist with this, those wishing to prove all things and hold fast that which is good may wish to study the free online book: Continuing History of the Church of God.
Continuing History of the Church of God
As far as believing and loving a lie goes, most people do not know where the true Christian church is today. Furthermore, even those who understand about the Church of God do not understand which group is the most faithful. Those interested in learning about that may wish to study the free booklet: Where is the True Christian Church Today?
Where is the True Christian Church Today?
The above booklet is available in about 100 languages at the www.ccog.org website.
In general, people tend to be more focused on money than true religion.
Money will fail.
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)
1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days. (James 5:1-4)
False religion will fail.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ (Matthew 7:21-23)
Most people do not understand God’s law and do practice lawlessness.
If you are willing to change and study, you can abide with God forever. Jesus said:
9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. (John 15:9-10)
You do not have to rely on junk religion.
