It’s time to concede European integration failed. What are the consequences?

Eurointelligence founder Wolfgang Münchau is a strong pro-Europe advocate. He has been that way for the entire decade I followed him.

Earlier this month he commented: “The battle for European integration has failed. It is time to recognise defeat, and to think through the consequences.”

When you fight for a cause that does not materialise, at what point do you recognise, and admit, defeat? There are some causes you may want to keep fighting for no matter what, like human rights or climate change. Is European integration in that category? For me, it is not. My biggest area of disagreement with my fellow European federalists is not in what we think is desirable. What we disagree on is where the dividing line between realpolitik and wishful thinking lies. …

Fatal Flaws

I disagree with Münchau that there ever was a chance for a united Europe.

The euro itself is fatally flawed. There is no way for a single interest rate to work for Italy, Germany, France, Spain and Greece with monstrously different work ethics, hours pension plans, productivity, etc.

There is no way to change the rules.

When the Eurozone was formed, Germany insisted on rules that could not be changed without unanimous consent of all countries and without consent of the German constitution.

Over the years Germany bent in minor ways, but did not break on some constitutional debt rules.

But point two still remains. It take unanimous consent to do nearly anything in the EU or Eurozone that was not explicitly spelled out in the Maastricht Treaty that created the EU. …

Russia is Germany’s Natural Ally

Russia is and has been Germany’s natural ally. Note that Germany even blocked sending military aid to Lithuania and Ukraine.

Former Chancellor Angela Merkel, bowed to the Greens and dismantled German nuclear reactors.

As far as Russia being a natural ally of Germany,although that is not universally accepted, there are leaders and others who apparently believe that. The German press reported the following:

Putin and Schröder: A special German-Russian friendship under attack

Germany’s former chancellor Gerhard Schröder made the headlines again when he accused the government in Kyiv of saber-rattling in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

On the January 28 episode of his German language podcast, Schröder, who was chancellor heading a coalition of his center-left Social Democrats (SPD) and the environmentalist Greens from 1998 until 2005, Schröder went on to say he thought Ukrainian criticism of Germany’s refusal to supply the country with weapons was “really outrageous.”

One of Schroeder’s last acts before being turned out of office in 2005 was authorizing Nord Stream 2, a pipeline to transport Russian natural gas directly to Germany bypassing transit countries, which has been completed and is awaiting approval by German authorities before it can begin operating. After ending his political career,Schröder took on positions with the Russian-owned gas companies Nord Stream and Rosneft. ,,,

As long term regular readers of the COGwriter Church of God News page are aware, I expect that Germany and the rest of Europe will make a deal with Russia that will not end well for the USA and Canada (see Russia and Ukraine: Their Origins and Prophesied Future).

But what about the idea that European integration is a failure?

Have there been problems?

Yes, there have been problems with European integration. Yet, such problems were prophesied:

41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. 44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. 45 Inasmuch as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold — the great God has made known to the king what will come to pass after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is sure. (Daniel 2:41-45)

The strange mix that will become the European superstate will form, despite numerous integration problems. And like the Tower of Babel of Genesis 11:1-9, it will end in failure

Does that mean that Europe will not unite?

No.

The Bible differs from MishTalk as it shows that Europe will reorganize and unite:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

This will happen because of various crises and issues that will face Europe. These look to include financial, health, religious, and immigration matters.

The Bible shows that the coming European beast leader, also called the King of the North, will arise promising peace.

21 And in his place shall arise a vile person, to whom they will not give the honor of royalty; but he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue. 22 With the force of a flood they shall be swept away from before him and be broken, and also the prince of the covenant. 23 And after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people. (Daniel 11:21-23, NKJV)

25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. (Daniel 8:25, KJV).

Despite professing peace, this leader will be militaristic, do terrible things, and have a lot of power for 42 months:

3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. 6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. (Revelation 13:3-8)

Yes, Europe will unite for a time.

But what it will end up with is not something that Wolfgang Münchau and other strong pro-Europe advocates have wanted.
