More stabbings in Jerusalem

Stabbings have long been used to kill the unsuspecting

Two more Palestinians stabbed people today:

JERUSALEM — Two Palestinian assailants stabbed two Israeli Jews, one fatally, near a normally bustling entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem on Wednesday, and were shot by Israeli border police officers at the scene, the police said.

One of the assailants was killed on the spot; the other died later of his wounds, according to the police.

A third Israeli civilian, identified in the Israeli news media as Ofer Ben-Ari, 46, was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound and died hours later. The police said he appeared to have been hit by police fire during the attack.

The Israeli who was fatally stabbed was not immediately identified, but an official at the hospital where he died said he was a 45-year-old father of seven.

The police said the assailants were residents of the Qalandia refugee camp, between Jerusalem and the West Bank city of Ramallah.

The stabbing took place outside the Jaffa Gate, an entrance to the Old City near the line where the predominantly Palestinian area of East Jerusalem meets the predominantly Jewish western part of the city.

The walled Old City contains some of the most significant Jewish, Muslim and Christian holy sites and is a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims, particularly during the Christmas period. It has also been a focus of recent tensions and violence. The recent surge of attacks was initially fueled, at least in part, by a dispute over Al Aqsa Mosque compound, a contested holy site revered by Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary and by Jews as the Temple Mount.

Sadly, some see stabbings as the answer to the situation in Jerusalem:

A new generation of angry, disillusioned Palestinians is driving the current wave of clashes with Israeli forces . . . some say they want to emulate those killed or wounded in confrontations or attacks on Israelis – like Mohannad Halabi, the 19-year-old law student from the West Bank who stabbed to death two Israelis in Jerusalem’s Old City on the weekend before being shot by police.

“We are all impressed by what he has done,” said Malik Hussein, the 19-year-old friend and fellow law student at Quds University near Jerusalem. “The day after the attack, university took to the streets and clashed with Israeli soldiers. Of course, the solution to Palestine and Jerusalem is not war and terrorism, but the return of Jesus Christ and the establishment of the kingdom of God. Malik Hussein and others should, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem” (Psalm 122:6).

I consider that these stabbings are brutal and cowardly.

The Bible says that the cowardly will not inherit God’s kingdom. Instead, unless they repent, they will be destroyed in the lake of fire:

8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8)

All should condemn brutal stabbings.

That being said, the situation with Jerusalem will change. Despite the current stabbings, a type of temporary ‘peace deal’ is expected according to Bible prophecy. Daniel 9:27 seems to be discussing some type of peace deal that the Europeans will either propose or at least one leader from Europe will endorse that will affect the region (see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27).

Biblical prophecy teaches that the Palestinians of Gaza and the West Bank will support confederations which will not end well in this age (cf. Daniel 11:40-43; Ezekiel 30:2-9). They will, for a time, believe that they will be protected by a temporary ‘peace deal’ (Daniel 9:27) that will not end well (Daniel 11:31,40-43) according to biblical, and even Islamic prophecy.

Later, Jesus will come and straighten this world out (Revelation 19-20).

The Bible also tells of an age to come and that all whoever lived, Palestinian, Jew, or otherwise, will be offered salvation (see Universal Offer of Salvation: There Are Hundreds of Verses in the Bible Supporting the Doctrine of True Apocatastasis).

Until then, we can expect problems to come to the Middle East and various parts of the world. When the ‘peace deal’ of Daniel 9:27 comes, many will be lulled into falsely believing that real peace has been attained (cf. Luke 17:26-29), but that will not be the case (cf. 1 Thessalonians 5:13).
