3 New Polls Show That They Are Going To Need To Cart Out Much Bigger Doses Of “Hopium”
August 2, 2021
The mood of the nation has dramatically changed. Survey after survey has shown that Americans are much less optimistic than they were during the first half of 2021, and that could have enormous implications for the economy as we roll through the second half of this calendar year. When consumers are pessimistic about the future, they tend to hold on to their money more tightly, and they also tend to allocate money to different priorities. Earlier this year, so many pundits were telling us that a new golden era of prosperity was ahead because the worst of the pandemic was behind us and Joe Biden was now in the White House. But now the Delta variant is causing another wave of mass panic, and an increasing number of Americans are losing faith in the Biden administration. …
Let me start by discussing the Gallup survey that just came out. In June, Americans overwhelmingly thought that the worst of the pandemic was in the past, but now the numbers have completely changed…
In a dramatic shift from last month, more Americans now say the coronavirus situation in the U.S. is getting worse (45%) rather than better (40%). In June, a record 89% said the situation was getting better, while only 3% said it was getting worse.
I can’t remember the last time I saw poll numbers move that much in such a short period of time. … a different survey just found that Biden’s approval rating has dropped a total of 10 points since June…
President Biden and Congress’s job approval are taking a hit amid a resurgence of the coronavirus.
A Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey released Monday found Biden’s approval dropping to 52 percent. He may still be above water — only 43 percent of respondents disapprove of the job he’s doing in the Oval Office — but he’s down 10 points from where he was in June, when his approval was at 62 percent.
Without a doubt, this has not been a good summer for the Biden administration. …
A third survey that I wanted to mention recently found that the percentage of Americans that are “pessimistic about the direction of the country” has risen by 19 points since May 2nd…
As President Joe Biden completed 100 days in office, the country was optimistic about the coming year, but now, just after hitting the six-month mark, Americans’ optimism about the direction of the country has plummeted nearly 20 points, a new ABC News/Ipsos poll finds.
A majority — 55% — of the public say they are pessimistic about the direction of the country, a marked change from the roughly one-third (36%) that said the same in an ABC News/Ipsos poll published May 2.
That is a 19 percent shift in just 3 months!
Have we ever seen a “direction of the country” poll move that much in three months? …
Millions of people raced out to get vaccines because they were promised immunity, but now the CDC is releasing new numbers that are deeply upsetting lots of Americans…
In a study released on Friday, the CDC tracked 469 cases among Massachusetts residents who visited the town.
They found that 74% of those were fully vaccinated. An overwhelming majority of the cases were caused by the Delta variant, the study reported.
Let us hope that the number of new cases starts to fade, because this latest wave of the pandemic is causing a tremendous amount of fear and panic right now.
And the more fear and panic that we see, the less optimistic Americans are going to be about the road ahead. http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/3-new-polls-show-that-they-are-going-to-need-to-cart-out-much-bigger-doses-of-hopium/
Yes, many Americans put their hope in the Biden-Harris Administration. And for the past year and one-half the predominant media has told people around the world to put their hope in a vaccine.
As far as the term “hopium” goes, I first encountered it in a telephone conversation from a man in Southern California (not a COG member) in January 2021. He mentioned that he knew many who had all kinds of delusional hope that Donald Trump would remain in office. I related to him that I had spoken with a chiropractor the month prior who assured me that Bill Barr would be jailed, various things would happen, and Donald Trump would remain in office in January 2021–when I tried to ask her to consider what if that did not happen, she would not hear it. I have since spoken to others who were addicted to false hope about Donald Trump.
Many in Gerald Flurry’s PCG still have hopium related to Donald Trump. Even within the last week, PCG posted something about Donald Trump getting back in office–and they were not referring to the 2024 election. Gerald Flurry was so convinced that Donald Trump would remain in office his church paid for major advertising to promote that wrong view.
Sadly most outside of, as well as too many inside of, the Church of God have hopium.
They have false hope that government leaders (whether Democrat or Republican, whether in the USA or outside of it) will solve their problems and bring about a better world.
False hope leads to despair and lack of trust in God.
Christians, though confused at times, are not to have despair:
8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; (2 Corinthians 4:8)
Satan wants people to put their trust in other people above placing their hope and trust in God.
Why?
He wants people to be disappointed and despair.
Satan does not want people to be in the Kingdom of God.
He wants to dissuade you and others from doing so.
How does he do that?
Through lies, false hopes, and false witnesses.
While you might think you are immune to Satan, remember that the New Testament teaches:
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, (1 Peter 5:7-9)
Satan does not want you to truly have faith in God or His word.
Jesus said Satan the devil was a liar from the beginning:
44 … He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. (John 8:44)
Some of Satan’s allies at Banned by HWA website continue to post lies about those of us in Continuing Church of God (CCOG) as well as other COGs–and sadly, various anti-Christians and Laodiceans have been influenced by them.
That is consistent with Satan’s hope as he is called the “accuser of the brethren” which he does do day and night (Revelation 12:10), so it is no great surprise if his lying human assistants spread lies regularly.
Satan also uses political matters and differences to get people to have the wrong focus.
The Bible warns against looking to humans for hope, while encouraging people to trust in God and look forward to His kingdom:
8 It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in man.
9 It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in princes. (Psalm 118:8-9)3 Do not put your trust in princes,
Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.
4 His spirit departs, he returns to his earth;
In that very day his plans perish.5 Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help,
Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
6 Who made heaven and earth,
The sea, and all that is in them;
Who keeps truth forever,
7 Who executes justice for the oppressed,
Who gives food to the hungry.
The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners.8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind;
The Lord raises those who are bowed down;
The Lord loves the righteous.
9 The Lord watches over the strangers;
He relieves the fatherless and widow;
But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.10 The Lord shall reign forever —
Your God, O Zion, to all generations. (Psalm 146:3-10)
Trust God and do not fall for political, medical, or other lies:
4 Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust,
And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. (Psalm 40:4)
The Bible warns against those who love lies and accept visions of false hope:
6 They have envisioned futility and false divination, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord!’ But the Lord has not sent them; yet they hope that the word may be confirmed. 7 Have you not seen a futile vision, and have you not spoken false divination? You say, ‘The Lord says,’ but I have not spoken.” (Ezekiel 13:6-7)
12 “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie. (Revelation 22:12-15)
Furthermore, the Apostle Paul says that those who are not Christians essentially have “no hope,” but that the brethren do and should be comforted by that (1 Thessalonians 4:13).
While worldly “hopium” is wrong, Christians should have real hope.
The Continuing Church of God (CCOG) is pleased to announce the following related video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:
The New Testament teaches that Christians are to have hope. What are ways to be more hopeful? Pocket, a secular source, recommended an article about that. In this video, Dr. Thiel goes over many points of that article and ties them into numerous scriptures that teach about hope. Dr. Thiel also notes that multiple times, the Apostle Paul taught about faith, love, and hope together. Dr. Thiel also quotes Jesus related to not worrying and seeking first the Kingdom of God. Furthermore, he refers to mysteries of God’s plan that most do not understand. He also reads what the Bible promises will occur in the new earth.

Do not fall for the world’s false hope.
Any who do so should repent, and:
33 … seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:33-34)
9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (Matthew 6:9-13)20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.”
Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. (Revelation 22:20-21)
Trust in God and His coming Kingdom–do not get caught up in the hopium of the world.
