The first regular primary of the 2020 presidential election was held in New Hampshire:

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Bernie Sanders was leading in early returns in New Hampshire on Tuesday, while a surging Amy Klobuchar battled Pete Buttigieg for second.

Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden were lagging far behind.

Sen. Bernie Sanders has won the New Hampshire primary, CNN projects, clearing a key hurdle as the race moves to Nevada and South Carolina in the coming weeks.

His victory tonight came a little more than a week after the Iowa caucuses were thrown into chaos by a failure of the state party’s vote-counting systems.

This time around, the results were clear – and Sanders supporters at his headquarters in Manchester were free to celebrate without reservation.

Former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who rose in the polls here after battling Sanders to a virtual tie in Iowa, ultimately fell short in his efforts to knock Sanders off course.

Sanders won the 2016 primary here by a much larger margin, but in 2020 faced a much wider and varied field.

Buttigieg’s solid showing and a late surge from Sen. Amy Klobuchar highlighted both the strength and continued indecision of the party’s moderate wing, who have not yet coalesced around alternative to the front-running Sanders. Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s campaign, which appears to be caught in a no-man’s land between Democrats’ ideological bases, will now face more serious questions about her path to the nomination. …

Here’s CNN’s estimate of the New Hampshire delegate count:

  • Bernie Sanders: 9
  • Pete Buttigieg: 9
  • Amy Klobuchar: 6

Combined with Iowa delegates, Buttigieg now has a total of 23, Sanders has 21 and Klobuchar has 7.

Of the candidates, Bernie Sanders seems to have won as expected. However, last time he got 60.1% of the vote when he was only running against Hillary Clinton–this time it looks like was less than half that.

Pete Buttegieg and Amy Klobuchar did better than most would have expected a couple of weeks ago.

When asked the past couple of days who could be one to watch, I told people that I thought Amy Klobuchar had a shot.

The fact that she was barely behind Joe Biden in the Iowa caucuses and looks to have beat him in New Hampshire puts her as a more serious contender.

In some ways, she is less extreme than many of the others still in the race. Here are some of her views:

Climate change and environmental issues

Klobuchar said during the CNN Town Hall that while she likes the idea of a Green New Deal, it was not realistic. She said it was aspirational to believe all the proposals could be enacted in 10 years and acknowledged that along the way to becoming law, compromises would need to happen.[34]

Klobuchar said that during her first 100 days in office, she would reinstate the Clean Power Plan and gas mileage standards and propose legislation to invest in green jobs and infrastructure. She also said that on her first day, the U.S. would rejoin the Paris Climate Change Agreement.[39]

Consumer protection

In 2018, Klobuchar introduced a bill with Senator John Kennedy (R–LA) with the goal, among other things, of increasing the clarity of online terms of service and requiring more transparency regarding what data companies gather and share.[35] Because of her early focus on consumer safety issues, the New York Times nicknamed her “The Senator of Small Things”, to which Klobuchar responded that she does not “view these as small things”.[35]

Crime

Klobuchar began her career as a prosecutor. Her reputation for having been a “tough on crime” prosecutor who took part in the “war on drugs” is viewed by some as setback.[40]

Klobuchar, who is from a region with a strong tradition of gun ownership, attended the March for Our Lives and favors “common sense” gun safety legislation such as universal background checks.[41][better source needed] After the 2019 El Paso shooting, she published an anti-hate crime proposal. The plan entails directing federal law enforcement against white supremacists and expanding protections for targeted communities.[42][43]

Education

Klobuchar does not support free, four-year college for all, saying that while she wished she could make it happen, it was not realistic. Instead, she proposed allowing students to more easily refinance their student loans, making community colleges free, and extending Pell Grants to a wider group of recipients.[34]

Elections

In her announcement speech, Klobuchar said she supported an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to overturn the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. FEC. She also advocated restoring the Voting Rights Act and automatic voter registration for every 18 year old U.S. citizen.[39]

Following Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections, she introduced legislation in 2017 in the Senate to bring more online communications under the oversight of election law, with the goal of increasing the transparency of online election advertising. It would also require social media companies to maintain more information on advertisement buyers and who they target. The bill was endorsed by both Facebook and Twitter but failed in the Senate.[35]

Foreign policy

Klobuchar committed to standing with allies and having a clear purpose. She said frontline troops, diplomats, and intelligence officers who risk their lives daily “deserve better than foreign policy by tweet.”[39]

Healthcare

While Klobuchar has pushed for reductions in healthcare costs, she has not called for an overhaul of the entire system like other 2020 candidates. She has not supported the Medicare-for All plan proposed by 2016 candidate and 2020 candidate Senator Bernie Sanders (I–VT). She does, however, support a path to universal healthcare, believing a good first step would be a public option, allowing Americans to opt-in to government-run health insurance instead of finding private plans.[35] During the CNN Town Hall, Klobuchar stated that Medicare-for-All “could be a possibility in the future”, but she was looking for solutions “that will work now”. She said her priorities would be expanding Medicare and Medicaid, improving the ACA, and creating a public option.[34]

During her time in the Senate, Klobuchar has repeatedly pushed for ways to lower the costs of prescription drugs. She has introduced legislation encouraging the development of cheaper, generic versions of name-brand drugs. She has also supported allowing Medicare to directly negotiate the prices of drugs with pharmaceutical companies.[35]

On May 3, 2019, Klobuchar released a $100 billion proposal to combat addiction and the opioid crisis. The plan specified funding and services for prevention, treatment and recovery; the funding would be generated from a per-milligram tax on opioids and a “master settlement” with opioid manufacturers.[44]

On July 12, 2019, Klobuchar announced a proposal for improving senior healthcare. The plan detailed research for chronic diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, an expansion of retirement savings and pensions, investments in long-term care, and a new senior fraud prevention office. Funding would come from closing tax loopholes for inherited wealth.[45][46]

Immigration

Klobuchar voted for the 2013 Senate immigration reform bill[47] and still supports comprehensive immigration reform.[48] …

National debt

Klobuchar has cited her concern with the growing national debt as one of her main reasons for opposing proposals such as Medicare-for-All and free college. She said during a CNN Town Hall that she doesn’t “want to leave that on the shoulders” of the next generation and specifically called out the Trump Administration for allowing the national debt to grow.[34] (Amy Klobuchar 2020 presidential campaign. Those being said, she has some of the usual anti-biblical views on certain matters of morality:

Klobuchar’s political positions have generally been in line with modern American liberalism. She is pro-choice on abortion, supports LGBT rights and the Affordable Care Act, and was critical of the Iraq War. (Amy Klobucjar, Wikipedia, accessed 02/11/20)

The Washington Post put the following out:

Yes, all the major Democratic party candidates are pushing what The Washington Post considers as a leftist agenda. All are dedicated to keeping the murder of unborn babies ‘legal’ as well as far as I can tell, they want taxpayers to fund it where feasible. They all also want to push the LGBTQ agenda.

On abortion, the LGBTQ agenda, pornography, and other areas, the USA needs repentance and the Kingdom of God. None of the candidates (including the current President, though his anti-abortion position is refreshing) advocates that.

Whoever wins in 2020 will be dangerous.

Identifying the USA and its Destruction in Prophecy

Various religious leaders have wondered if, and where, the United States of America may be identified in the Bible. Does the USA have a fraternal, brotherly, or sibling relationship with the United Kingdom or Canada? Does the Continuing Church of God agree with Irvin Baxter, Walid Shoebat, Greg Laurie, Ed Mlynar, or ‘Time’ on any points related to the fate of the USA? Do biblical references to eagles need to be referring to the USA? What can we see in Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Habakkuk, Hosea, Amos, Zephaniah, and Revelation? The Bible itself warns that if the children of Israel sinned and did not repent, the following would happen:

12 As for My people, children are their oppressors, And women rule over them. O My people! Those who lead you cause you to err, And destroy the way of your paths. (Isaiah 3:12)

So, we see a specific biblical prophecy warning of a time where there will be female rulers. And, as this has happened to descendants of Ephraim having a female in the top office, this would be expected to affect descendants and Manasseh. No matter who wins, the Bible warns:

16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err, And those who are led by them are destroyed. (Isaiah 9:16)

Despite Republican President Donald Trump claiming that the USA has its strongest economy ever (or some similar superlatives), the debt of the USA continues to rise. The reality is that the US is in the process of bankrupting itself economically and morally. It is basically already there, but it looks like many want to accelerate the fall of the US, and several of the Democratic candidates have been proposing economic plans which look to do that. Nor, it should be added, has Donald Trump proposed a plan to truly reverse that.

Of course, by virtue of the timing, whoever is elected in 2020, Democrat or Republican, will be apocalyptic.

Within a decade or so, the US will be taken over (cf. Daniel 11:39) and debt and sin will be factors (Habakkuk 2:6-8) (see USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses and Does God Have a 6,000 Year Plan? What Year Does the 6,000 Years End?).

Various politicians have announced their intentions to run for the office of the President of the United States in 2020. ‘Politico’ ran an article about the ‘sorry state’ of various candidates. Some candidates have felt the need to apologize for previous statements in support of biblical marriage and the need to endorse items of the LGBTQ agenda. Many also support abortion and other anti-biblical actions. Are these ‘American values’? Should the English language be changed to eliminate male/female and singular pronouns? Does the Bible warn about female leaders? Does the Bible warn about leaders that lead people to err? What about condoning sexual immortality? Do the presidential contenders fit prophecies warned about in 2 Timothy 3:1-5? These are some of the subjects that Dr. Thiel addresses.

Pray for the Kingdom of God to come (Matthew 6:10). Also pray as Jesus taught:

34 “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. 35 For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. 36 Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:34-36)

We can expect troubles and tribulation before Jesus returns (Mark 13:8-20).

And that will happen no matter which party wins the 2020 US Presidential election.

The results of the New Hampshire primary have not changed that.
