Nikol Pashinyan is Armenian Prime Minister: EU wants to talk

After some in the military joined protests, Armenia’s last president, turned prime minister, resigned:

Opposition politician Nikol Pashinyan spearheaded weeks of protests in Armenia that brought an end to 10 years of rule by Serzh Sargsyan.
Now he has persuaded a parliament dominated by Mr Sargsyan’s own party to back him as prime minister, only a week after he lost an initial vote. …
Mr Pashinyan, who led what has become known as Armenia’s “Velvet Revolution”, promised MPs that human rights would be protected, and that corruption and election-rigging would end.
“All people are equal before the law. There will be no people enjoying privileges in Armenia. That’s it. Full stop,” he said. …
Armenia’s peaceful uprising against single-party rule – and the way its political leaders responded – is seen as unprecedented for a former Soviet state. Russia has not intervened in the recent political events and Mr Pashinyan told MPs that relations with Moscow would be a priority, particularly military co-operation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin immediately welcomed Mr Pashinyan’s success, looking forward to continuing “friendly relations”. Armenia is part of Russia’s collective security organisation as well as its Eurasian economic union. …
Mr Pashinyan won the vote by 59 votes to 42 and has promised snap elections as soon as he is happy conditions are right for a legitimate vote to take place.

It is good that we did not see loss of life with the changes in Armenia.
As far as Armenia itself goes, its government has wanted to somewhat act as a bridge between the East and the West.

Earlier, during RA President’s visit to China at the end of March of this year, Armenia signed a memorandum on strengthening cooperation in the establishment of the economic zone of the Silk Road. In this regard, during the Boao International Forum, the RA President Serzh Sargsyan said: “Armenia is also ready to become a center for interests of Asian businessmen. I would also suggest that you explore the opportunities to found regional headquarters of Chinese and other large Asian companies in Armenia. Especially attractive areas for businessmen could be the energy sector, cooperation in the North-South Road Corridor and the Armenia-Iran railway construction projects in consistence with the initiative of the Silk Road,” the press service of the RA President writes. Armenia was a major part of the ancient Silk Road and expects to be a part of the one that China is now working on–one that will have prophetic ramifications (e.g., watch Is China paving roads to Armageddon?). I do not believe that its new Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will want to pull Armenia out of that–especially since he has earlier stated that he does NOT intend to change Armenian foreign policy.

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/ Vice-President of the Commission Federica Mogherini and Commissioner Johannes Hahn issued a joint statement on the election of Nikol Pashinyan as the Prime Minister of Armenia, the EEAS reported.
“The Armenian Parliament has elected Nikol Pashinyan as the new Prime Minister of Armenia in accordance with the Constitution.
The European Union looks forward to working with him and his government on the implementation of the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed last November, with a view to further consolidating democracy, the rule of law and respect of human rights, and to creating a prosperous and resilient country for the benefit of all citizens of Armenia.

As far as Armenia’s future goes, it hopes to straddle between the West and East. It is tied in with Russia for its security as well as a lot of its economic needs (many Armenians work in Russia as well and send funds back to Armenia). Armenia also wants trade and investment with the EU.
It may well do both for a time.
Bible prophecy shows that much of the non-Anglo-Saxon-American world will prosper during the time of the coming European Babylonian Beast power:
3 … the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury (Revelation 18:3).
That would then be expected to include Armenia.
However, other biblical prophecies show that just prior to Armageddon that it will be more aligned with the east (Russia) than the west (the coming European Beast power). But between now and then, Armenia will likely try to work with Europe and Russia and try to be a bridge between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
The Bible shows that a Eurasian military union will happen involving those from the north AND the east and frighten the coming European King of the North:
…the king of the North… 43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels. 44 But news from the east and the north shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. 45 And he shall plant the tents of his palace between the seas and the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him (Dan 11:40,43-45).
Armenia is east of Europe.
Places like Armenia (called Ararat below) and others near that region of Asia are prophesied to be involved with another power (the king of the Medes, Russia, below):
27 Set up a banner in the land, Blow the trumpet among the nations! Prepare the nations against her, Call the kingdoms together against her: Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a general against her; Cause the horses to come up like the bristling locusts. 28 Prepare against her the nations, With the kings of the Medes, Its governors and all its rulers, All the land of his dominion. 29 And the land will tremble and sorrow; For every purpose of the Lord shall be performed against Babylon, To make the land of Babylon a desolation without inhabitant. (Jeremiah 51:27-29)
So, while Armenia may well prosper as a bridge between the East and the West, one day, it will align with the East against the European West.
