ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police officers called out sick to protest the filing of murder charges against an officer who shot a man in the back, while the interim chief acknowledged members of the force feel abandoned amid protests demanding massive changes to policing.
Interim Chief Rodney Bryant told The Associated Press in an interview that the sick calls began Wednesday night and continued Thursday, but said the department had sufficient staff to protect the city. It’s not clear how many officers called out.
“Some are angry. Some are fearful. Some are confused on what we do in this space. Some may feel abandoned,” Bryant said of the officers. “But we are there to assure them that we will continue to move forward and get through this.”

There is a labor strike brewing at the New York Police Department, where officers are reportedly being encouraged to call out sick on July 4th in order to give the city its “independence”.
The move comes after weeks of police officers around the United States facing unprecedented backlash as a result of the death of George Floyd. So far, officers in Buffalo and Atlanta have both been reported to have resigned and/or called out en masse and now it looks like the New York Police Department could be next.
Flyers are being passed around that suggest the strike in response to proposed police reform and an “anti-cop” climate that many officers believe make it more difficult to do their jobs.
A text message that is going around between NYPD officers says “NYPD cops will strike on July 4th to let the city have their independence without cops,” according to the NY Post. …
PBA President Patrick Lynch said: “The situation we are in right now is no joke. NYC cops have reached the breaking point. Over the past few weeks, we have been attacked in the streets, demonized in the media and denigrated by practically every politician in this city. The police have a difficult job to do.
Across various parts of the USA, the police believe that they have been betrayed by local government politicians, improperly portrayed by the mainstream media, and have had to put up with insults and assaults by protesters.
That being said, yes police often display a certain violent arrogance and are not always easy to work with.
Police brutality can happen and it is wrong. And sadly, government officials, including police officers, are overly protected by laws when they do things that they should not. This is not new.
Yet, it is also wrong for ‘protesters’ to be violent, destructive, and make hateful statements.
Now, consider the following scripture:
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. (Ephesians 5:11)
The violence, lootings, threats, and burning of buildings is wrong. Yes, many are angry, and yes, it is right to be outraged by the treatment of George Floyd, but the violence, thievery, and destruction is wrong. So, has been some of the police response.
26 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil. 28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. (Ephesians 4:26-29)
The angry are not to sin. Those who stole are to stop, work, and be productive. They need to produce in order to give, not sin and destroy.
John the Baptist taught policing soldiers to, “Do violence to no man” (Luke 3:14, KJV).
But notice the full statement, from the NKJV:
“Do not intimidate anyone or accuse falsely, and be content with your wages” (Luke 3:14).
But sadly, that is not always followed.
Jesus taught love:
27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. 31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.
32 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. 35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. (Luke 6:27-36)
Love, not hate, is what is needed. And it is NOT love to scream hateful things, push at police, have police harm or push others, loot, or destroy.
Police should not lie and call in sick.
While many are angry, lying is not the answer.
As far as the safety of areas in the USA go, consider the following prophecies:
5 They have corrupted themselves; They are not His children, Because of their blemish: A perverse and crooked generation. … 25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:5,25)
12 “Cry and wail, son of man; For it will be against My people, Against all the princes of Israel. Terrors including the sword will be against My people; … (Ezekiel 21:12)
5 Also they are afraid of height, And of terrors in the way (Ecclesiastes 12:5).
6 You have forsaken Me,” says the Lord,
“You have gone backward.
Therefore I will stretch out My hand against you and destroy you;
I am weary of relenting!
7 And I will winnow them with a winnowing fan in the gates of the land;
I will bereave them of children;
I will destroy My people,
Since they do not return from their ways.
8 Their widows will be increased to Me more than the sand of the seas;
I will bring against them,
Against the mother of the young men,
A plunderer at noonday;
I will cause anguish and terror to fall on them suddenly. (Jeremiah 15:6-8)
Terror will hit not only the USA and its Anglo-Saxon descended allies, but also many in Europe and elsewhere. Police strikes seem intended to get people to realize that this world is not safe.
The Bible shows that we should expect more protests, including violent protests:
1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:1-7)
23 ‘Make a chain,
For the land is filled with crimes of blood,
And the city is full of violence.
24 Therefore I will bring the worst of the Gentiles,
And they will possess their houses;
I will cause the pomp of the strong to cease,
And their holy places shall be defiled. (Ezekiel 7:23-24)

We are seeing riots and protests across the USA, protests and skirmishes in Hong Kong, and another potential intifada with the Palestinians over Israel’s annexation plans. Jesus taught:
25 Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. (Matthew 12:25)
There is more divide in the USA and parts of it certainly appear to be intentional. Much of it is ideological. The USA is becoming less and less united and more polarized.
This will not end well for the USA (cf. Daniel 11:39; Ezekiel 7:23-24).
