Obama and Harper blast Russia on Ukraine in Australia, plus Abbot and Cameron

The President of the United States, the Prime Minister of Canada, and Prime Minister of Australia made some bold statements:

U.S. President Barack Obama says the U.S. is leading the world in opposing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Speaking Saturday in Australia at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Mr. Obama said Russia is “a threat to the world” as witnessed in the “appalling shoot-down of MH17;” a reference to the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in July as it flew through rebel-held territory in Ukraine en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.

“As the world’s only super power, the United States has unique responsibilities that we gladly embrace,” said Obama. “We’re leading the international community in the fight to destroy the terrorist group ISIL (Islamic State), we’re leading in dealing with Ebola in West Africa and in opposing Russia’s aggression against Ukraine…a tragedy that took so many innocent lives, among them your fellow citizens.”

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says the situation in eastern Ukraine must be resolved through dialogue with the Russian-backed separatists. However, Poroshenko said Friday the Ukrainian military is “willing and able to fight back” if the cease-fire collapses completely.

Putin wants compromise

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he wants to reach a compromise with Ukraine, but the Kremlin denies having any soldiers or weapons in rebel-controlled areas.

Ukraine’s prime minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, says building an army strong enough to stop Russian aggression is the country’s number one task.

NATO and European observers report seeing Russian tanks, troops and weapons crossing the border into eastern Ukraine this past week. A cease-fire declared in September has been violated consistently almost since the day it was signed.

Moscow says it is Ukraine that is massing forces along the front lines, ignoring an agreement to pull them back.

Obama and Putin are both in Brisbane, attending the summit of the Group of 20 economic powers.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has called for the immediate implementation of the cease-fire and securing and monitoring of the Ukraine-Russia border.

As world leaders gathered in Australia for the summit, Russian President Putin, in an interview Friday with Russia’s official Tass news agency, complained about U.S.-led sanctions against Russia for its military activity in Ukraine. He said Washington is “crudely violating” the spirit of international cooperation.

EU considers sanctions

European Union President Herman von Rompuy says European foreign ministers will meet Monday after the summit to assess the situation in Ukraine and talk about “possible further steps,” which could mean more sanctions against Moscow.

EU leaders also plan to discuss Ukraine with U.S. President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the summit.

Australia has sent its fleet into international waters to monitor the activity of four Russian warships that arrived off the country’s northeast coast.

Russian authorities say their naval maneuvers and air force flights over the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean are only routine training missions to test the range of Russian military equipment. The US president says Asia’s security must not be based on intimidation of small nations by big ones.

Barack Obama told students in Brisbane, Australia – where he is attending the G20 summit – that security in the region must depend on mutual alliances.

He said there was “no question” over his commitment to Asia-Pacific allies, referring to US efforts to strengthen strategic ties with the region. …

Before the summit began, Mr Cameron said Russia could face further sanctions unless it stopped “destabilising Ukraine”.

But Mr Putin faced a frosty reception from Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper over Russia’s military assertiveness in Ukraine.

“I’ll shake your hand, but I only have one thing to say to you: you need to get out of Ukraine,” Mr Harper told the Russian leader.

The statements from the top leaders of the USA and all its Anglo-Saxon descended allies in the G20 (New Zealand is not part of the G20) all appear united in taking stands against Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized Western media for its one-sided coverage of the Ukraine conflict, in an interview with the German ARD channel at the G20 summit. “The most important thing is that one shouldn’t look at the problem from one side only,” Putin stressed. “Today, there’s military action underway in eastern Ukraine. The Ukrainian government is using the army. They even used missiles. But do you mention this? You don’t say a single word about it. It means that you want the Ukrainian government to destroy everything there, all the political enemies and opponents. Is that what you want? We do not want that. On the surface, various statements reported today, especially by USA President Barack Obama indicate that perhaps a major war will happen with Russia. But, as Barack Obama has repeatedly stated that the USA will not go to war with Russia over Ukraine, Russia itself is not particularly worried about that.

Some Protestant prophecy watchers have long felt that there would be a major war between the USA and Russia, because of their misinterpretation of certain passages in Daniel 11 and Ezekiel 38 (see also Dangerous Protestant Prophetic Errors).

The Bible teaches it is a revived power in Europe (watch Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?), and not Russia (see Is Russia the King of the North?), who is the King of the North in Daniel 11.

While Ezekiel 38 does discuss Russia, the timing for its fulfillment is for well AFTER the return of Jesus Christ (see Ezekiel 38: For Russia & Iran in Our Day?). Perhaps I should also add that PCG’s position that Vladimir Putin is the prophesied “prince of Rosh” of Ezekiel 38 is in also error (see PCG states Putin IS the ‘prince of Rosh,’ but…) as that group also misunderstands the timing of that prophecy.

All that being said, some of the statements by leaders such as Barack Obama show that the USA is shifting its focus to Asia and dealing with Russia and China. More and more the Obama Administration is showing that it considers Russia and China the real threats to the USA and the world, without considering what Bible prophecy tells about what is starting to rise up in Europe. This misunderstanding of how world events ties in with biblical prophecy will be one of the reasons that the USA and its Anglo-Saxon descended allies will find themselves betrayed by the Europeans, even though they have considered them to be allies (Ezekiel 23:4,9-10; Lamentations 1:1-2; see also World War III: Steps in Progress).

Russia, itself, is not interested in pulling out of Ukraine. In my view, its recent military incursions/exercises in/near places such as Sweden, Alaska, Canada, Australia, Ukraine, and the Gulf of Mexico have been orchestrated to tell the world that it should not interfere with what Russia considers to be its own interests, or face consequences that Russia does not believe the rest of the world wants to deal with.

Yet, all of this intimidation, as well as limited USA response, will be part of why the Europeans will decide that they have to arm up themselves. And the Bible tells of terrible consequences to the USA (Daniel 11:39) and the rest of its Anglo-Saxon descended allies (Jeremiah 30:7) once the Europeans take successful military action that the USA would not expect. Successful military action that the world will marvel at (Revelation 13:4), despite Europe originally not thinking it would do so (Isaiah 10:7; see also Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel and Germany in Biblical and Catholic Prophecy).
