Obama Budget Pushing Europeans into Space with Russia?
US President Obama’s budget proposals seem to be betraying a deal with the Europeans:

The US will scale back Mars exploration under a proposed budget by President Barack Obama released on Monday that has some scientists fuming over the risk of a Nasa brain-drain.

Europe vows to maintain Mars missions, despite NASA’s absence…
An ESA spokesman, Franco Bonacina, said the agency was looking to Russia to partly fill NASA’s shoes. ‘We’ll try to push ahead with the Russians,’ he told dpa.
More and more the Europeans are realizing more and more that they do not want to have to rely on the US, and are increasingly concerned that they will need to further develop their own military:

A parade of world defence leaders and experts meeting at the Munich Security Conference issued stark warnings about Europe’s place in the global arena if it fails to maintain its military might…
Europeans are slowly moving towards more cooperation.

Europe has already made a variety of investments to help it technologically with the Large Hadron Collider and its upcoming Galileo satellite system:
The EU wants to dominate the future with a system known as Galileo that is more precise and more reliable than GPS, while controlled by civil authorities.
It foresees applications ranging from precision seeding on farmland to pinpoint positioning for search-and-rescue missions. On top of that, the EU hopes it will reap a financial windfall.
The system with a network of 30 satellites is expected to become operational in 2014.
Europe can pretend that the purpose of Galileo is civilian, but the reality is that it was funded because of European military concerns (see July 10, 2008 post EU Approves Galileo For Military Use). The technologies developed from the Large Hadron Collider are mainly expected to help the Europeans, not the Americans (see EU’s Collider Sets Another Record). The fact that it can trap “antimatter” (see CERN Makes Major Strides with Antimatter) may be a problem for the USA in the future.
As the USA reduces its space budget, Europe seems to be increasing its focus on space and other technologies. Already, the USA has agreed to put itself in a position that it will have to rely on Europe’s Galileo system for some of its (the USA’s) own military defense (see August 2, 2010 post USA GPS and EU Galileo linking was expected).
It has been my position for a number of years that the Europeans were going to advance militarily and technologically while the USA will be weakening itself (in relative, and even in some areas absolute, terms). Since the Europeans really would prefer not to rely on the Russians, they may feel even more driven to develop more of their own military and space independence. Galileo is one step towards that they have been pursuing for some time, and it will not be their last space project.
The first of the following two passages of scripture seem to support the view that the Europeans will have some type of unique military capability, while the second indicates that it may have some type of space technology:
4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:4)
53 Though Babylon were to mount up to heaven, And though she were to fortify the height of her strength, Yet from Me plunderers would come to her,” says the Lord. (Jeremiah 51:53)
The fact that the above scripture indicates that end time Babylon (which will be a European power) might try “to fortify the height of her strength” is consistent with the view that the Europeans may develop some type military space technology. And the more the USA cuts its defense spending, and relies on trusting the Europeans, the more at risk the USA is becoming. The fact that the military success of the end time Beast power will cause the world to marvel indicates that the Europeans will be able to fight wars in a way different than others have–and that would seem to mean that the Europeans will have some unique technological abilities (which may also be combined with certain “surprise” warring tactics).
Of course, the Europeans are not ready yet.
The end is not yet (Matthew 24:6), but the “beginning of sorrows (Matthew 24:5-8) which seems to be upon us, is getting us closer to the end (Matthew 24:15-21).
