Obama planning to propose $320 billion in new taxes

In his planned State of the Union speech for this Tuesday, US President Barack Obama plans to propose tax increases:

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will ask Congress Tuesday to provide a $500 “second earner” tax credit and expanded child tax credits for children under age 5 to help cover child care costs as part of an ambitious State of the Union address his aides say will prioritize help for middle class families.

But to cover the costs, the president will propose $320 billion in higher taxes for the affluent over the next 10 years… A White House official said that 99 percent of the costs of the $320 billion in higher taxes and fees over the next 10 years would fall on the wealthiest one percent of Americans. http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2015/01/president_obama_will_propose_t.html

U.S. President Barack Obama wants to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans and the largest financial firms, which he says will strengthen the middle class.

The proposals, outlined in a White House press release…The president will announce the proposals Tuesday in his annual State of the Union address on Capitol Hill. The US President can propose what he wishes. Many like the populous appeal of getting the affluent to pay their ‘fair share’ of taxes. Yet many do not realize that in the USA, the top one percent already pay a higher proportion of the taxes. Notice two reports about USA taxes:

The bottom 20% of earners make 3% of the income and pay 2% of the taxes; the middle 20% make 11% and pay 10%; and the top 1% make 21% and pay 22%. http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2012/07/debating-tax-burden

Those making over $200,000 comprise just over 5 percent of the nation’s taxpayers, earn 32.3 percent of the income, but pay 46.7 percent of total federal taxes and 70 percent of federal income taxes. http://taxfoundation.org/blog/do-rich-pay-their-fair-share

The affluent in the USA already pay most of the taxes.

The morning after Barack Obama defeated Mitt Romney for the US presidency, on November 7, 2012, I posted the following:

I believe the USA is going down a path where its primary direction will not be one of improvement. The voters of the USA decided, overall, to go down a similar path, which likely means more debt, more moral decline, more regulation, and continued periodic governmental gridlock. And those who pay the disproportionate share of the taxes in the United States will be expected to pay more taxes…

Notice that I also warned that debt would increase–and debt has increased (see also the post Romney vs. Obama for details).

While tax reform has its place, it is not the root cause of economic and other problems that the USA is facing. Yet, people often want to take from others, so talking about taking from the affluent does have a certain political appeal.

Market Collapse then New World Order in 2015? This is a video. A long-time financial adviser named Harvey Organ claims that claims that because of insufficient gold in the central banks of USA and UK, that Shanghai would bring about exposing this and that this would lead to a massive, overnight, rise in the price of gold and silver, diminished value of their currencies. He states a market collapse will occur before the end of 2014, that the petroyuan will replace the petrodollar, and that a Chinese led New World Order will be in place for 2015. Is this possible?
