US President Barack Obama has said he will not allow Sunni Muslim jihadists to carve out a “caliphate”, or Islamic state, straddling Syria and Iraq.
The US has been carrying out air strikes on Islamic State (IS) militants in northern Iraq.
Mr Obama said there would be further air strikes if necessary but no US military operation on the ground.
The UK has sent a plane to join the Americans in dropping relief to beleaguered religious refugees. …
Mr Obama said: “We’re not going to let them [IS] create some caliphate through Syria and Iraq, but we can only do that if we know that we’ve got partners on the ground who are capable of filling the void.” …

President Barack Obama says America will not be “dragged” into fighting another war in Iraq because there is “no American military solution to the larger crisis there.”
Obama said in his weekly address Saturday that he has authorized two operations in Iraq – one to protect Americans in Iraq and another providing humanitarian aid to Iraqi civilians trapped on a mountain by terrorists.
The president said the U.S. “cannot and should not intervene” every time there is a crisis in the world. However, Obama said when there is a situation like the one on the mountain, where “countless, innocent people are facing a massacre,” the U.S. cannot “just look away.”
The U.S. military launched two rounds of airstrikes Friday in northwestern Iraq, using drones and fighter jets.
Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said remotely piloted aircraft Friday struck Islamic State militants near Irbil. He said fighter planes later dropped eight bombs on vehicles and a mortar position in the area. …
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Friday Obama had not set any specific end date for the military operations.
Religious minorities targeted
Islamic State extremists have brutally executed ethnic-religious minorities and others who do not agree with their particular brand of Islam.
Speaking from New Delhi, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said the United States would continue to support the Iraqi government, as well as Iraqi security forces against the Islamic State militants.
U.S. military aircraft dropped humanitarian aid for a second straight day Saturday to thousands of mainly Christian and Yazidi refugees. who fled their homes in the face of the Islamic fighters’ advance and have taken refuge on the slopes of Sinjar mountain.

As I reported yesterday (see After Pope Francis calls for action, Barack Obama bombs Iraq), Barack Obama responded militarily after Pope Francis made an appeal. The USA is in a difficult spot as IS is an enemy of Iran as well. Much action against IS by the USA tends to support the governments of Syria and Iran, which the USA wants to change.

Russia basically believes that by supporting opposition to Syria’s President Assad, the USA provided money, advice, and weaponry that the Islamic State used to rise up. I would add that once IS began to rise up, it also ended up with a lot of weaponry that the USA gave to the government of Iraq.

An Islamic State spokesman announced the group’s plans to “humiliate” America and its allies and “raise the flag of Allah in the White House.”

Americans should stop being “cowards” and attacking the Islamic State terror group with drones, the terror group’s spokesperson told Vice News, adding that the militants aim to reach the U.S.
“I say to America, that the Islamic Caliphate has been established,” Abu Mosa said. “And we will not stop.”
“Don’t be cowards and attack us with drones,” he continued. “Instead send your soldiers, the ones we humiliated in Iraq. We will humiliate them everywhere, God willing, and we will raise the flag of Allah in the White House.”
On Friday, the U.S. launched a new round of airstrikes against Islamic State targets. The airstrikes appeared to provoke the militant group’s sympathizers who turned to Twitter to warn Americans to back off.

I have be warning for some time that ISIS/ISIL/IS was a terrorist threat and that the USA should expect terrorism from it if it lasts long enough. Even if it does not, I still suspect that terrorism will hit the USA based upon various prophecies:
14 ‘But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments, 15 and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant, 16 I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. 17 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you. (Leviticus 26:14-17)
25 The sword shall destroy outside; There shall be terror within (Deuteronomy 32:25)

Jihadist gains in various parts of the world are a prelude to more terrorism and change. A confederation against the USA, its Anglo-Saxon allies, and Israel involving Arab and European forces is coming. And I have long believed that terrorism will have to be part of this based not only upon the “terror” prophecies, but those that discuss an arrangement between what is now mainly Islamic dominated lands and Europe in Psalm 83.
As far as Iraq goes, it has long been a Church of God belief that terrorism and destruction could come from there:
Terrorists have become the means by which some powerful nations, desiring to avoid unwanted escalation or public outcry, can punish their enemies at a relatively small cost.
These modern-day guns-for-hire also provide the same service for smaller nations that may fear a direct confrontation with a major power.
Many nations make no bones about their connections to terrorist groups. Syria, Libya, Iraq and South Yemen all see no objection in directly aiding terrorism. (Taylor D. TERRORISM the Worst Is Yet to Come! Plain Truth, May 1984)
“They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: The tabernacles of Edom [Esau or modern-day Turkey, a non-Arab but Islamic nation], and the Ishmaelites [Saudi Arabia]; of Moab [part of Jordan], and the Hagarenes [anciently these peoples dwelt in the area known as Syria today]; Gebal [Lebanon], and Ammon [modern Jordan], and Amalek [part of the Turks]; the Philistines [the modern Palestinians] with the inhabitants of Tyre [Lebanon]; Assur [whose descendants, the Assyrians, migrated to Germany] also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot [Jordan and Western Iraq]” (Psalm 83:4-8)…
But in the end, this European-Arab alliance will prove short-lived…And the king of the north shall come against him [the king of the south]…Daniel 11:40-41…The Arab-Moslem Confederation will, of course, be thrown into chaotic disarray in the fact of invasion. (Stump K. The Arab World in Prophecy. Plain Truth, December 1979, pp. 11-12).
Some consider that the Hagarenes are better identified with Iraq–yet since Ishmael’s mother was Hagar–Genesis 16:15–they would all tend to be related. Whether they are identified better as Hagarenes or Ishmaelites, Iraq and other Arabic peoples are prophesied (along with others) to be part of a confederation that will decide to eliminate Israel. And I believe that terrorism will be involved.
That being said, the Islamic State, of itself, will not cause the end of the USA. It may, however, engage in terroristic acts against the USA or USA interests in the USA or elsewhere around the world.
The Bible prophesies:
7 I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies.
Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you.18 ‘And after all this, if you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.
19 I will break the pride of your power; (Leviticus 26:17-19)
While the USA still has substantial military power, the Islamic State is calling its actions cowardice. This may embolden some affiliated with it to take more direct actions against the USA in the form of terrorism.
Regarding Barack Obama’s goal of stopping the Islamic State from carving out a caliphate goes, the biblical reality is that some type of confederation involving the Arabs in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as the Turks and possibly the Kurds, is prophesied to occur in Daniel 11:40-43 and Ezekiel 30:2-8. While I do not believe that the head of the Islamic State (Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who also wants to conquer Rome, see Caliph of Islamic State wants to conquer Rome) will be its leader (the one the Bible refers to as the King of the South in Daniel 11:40), a caliphate-type confederation will come to pass.
Although the Bible shows that confederation will not last, the Bible indicates (Psalm 83) that such a confederation will assist in bringing destruction to the USA and its Anglo-Saxon descended allies.
