Here is a historical perspective on the old ‘Silk Road’ and new China’s ‘Silk Road Project’ (also known as the Belt and Road Initiative) from Russia Insider:

The old Silk Road was an ancient trade route that tied together the Roman Empire and China, where silk came from. It was so called because silk was at the heart of the trade. Silk went to Europe, gold and luxury goods went back. Silk was important because silk garments worn against the skin prevented body lice, and wealthy Roman citizens were ready to pay for silk with gold, because the alternative was watching their wives and concubines scratch themselves. …

The original Silk Road, established between the Han dynasty in China and the Roman Empire in Europe around 130 BC, had the Sogdians act as the go-betweens. …

But now the Silk Road is being resurrected as the New Silk Road, which will again connect China with Europe, with the European Union in place of the Roman Empire and with the Russian Federation in place of the Sogdians or the Khazars. …

But, just as before, the purpose of the New Silk Road will be to control the infestation of a certain parasite—or, in this case, an entire country of parasites: the United States.

Some people say that the US is the world’s largest economy, but I beg to differ. Let’s do some simple math to come up with a reasonable GDP deflator for the US economy. An appendectomy (the most common operation performed) costs around $60,000 in the US. It costs around 8000 rubles, or $123 in Russia. The difference is a factor of 60,000/123 or around 500. Assuming that everything else in the US—not just medicine but also education, legal services, professional services, real estate, defense spending, election campaigns and all the other American swindles and rackets combined—is equally ridiculously overpriced, 2019 estimated US GDP is not $21 trillion but just $42 billion, many times smaller than Russia with $1,649 billion.

Before going further, let me state that while the 500 times deflator is too much, the reality is that the US economy is not really as big as many think and has been propped up by debt which will prove to be unsustainable in the long run.

Vis-à-vis China, the US looks like a typical 19th-century European colonial possession. The US runs a permanent, and very large, trade deficit with China, and just as a colony would be forced to borrow the difference, so does the US. What allows it to be a parasite is that it does so in its own currency, which it can print at will, and to force other countries to invest in it at low rates of interest, all because it has been able to militarily dominate the ocean trade routes and to punish those who refuse to play this game, either financially (by destroying their currencies), politically (by overthrowing their governments and installing ones they don’t get to choose) or militarily (by blowing them up).

Meanwhile, somewhat analogously to the original Silk Road, gold has been flowing from the US to China. …

It is easy to stop at the geographical analogy between the original Silk Road and the new one: they both traverse the same geography. But why stop there, when there is an obvious deeper analogy lurking just under the surface: both of these Silk Roads were/are efforts to control a parasite. Why is the new Silk Road a “silk” road even though silk itself is a vanishingly small part of the trade? Because it just sounds nice? Yes, having its dollar as the world’s primary reserve currency has allowed the US to get more than it gives. And since the US is planning on increasing its debt–as agreed to this week (see MS: ‘It’s Over: The Democrats And The Republicans Are Both Conspiring To Bankrupt America And Destroy Our Future’ VOA: ‘Americans Say Distrust in Government, Other People Frustrating Efforts to Solve Biggest Problems’)–this will worsen. Since the US has no plans to properly pay back the debt, it could be considered not merely a parasite, but a thief.

The US has been on a net taking basis (according to available statistics) since basically the time its states started legalizing abortion.

The Bible shows that its greed and debt will not end well for the US (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8).

Now, Europe is not the only place China’s BRI project is connecting to. Africa is another place:

In the 1990s, Africa was languishing in debt, disease, droughts and civil wars. Who can forget the failure of the United Nations to stop the massacre in Rwanda?

One country that didn’t turn its back, that saw opportunity in Africa, was China. …

Why did China choose Africa? The answer is simple. China needed to secure raw materials for the country’s economic boom that started around 2000, and Africa had those materials. …

China wanted to diversify out of the massive US-dollar component of its foreign exchange reserves, so the SOE/SWFs had no problem dealing in straight cash and operating in what some might consider high-risk areas. Chinese investors shifted their focus from Australia and Canada to higher-risk destinations which included Brazil, Ecuador and Africa. …

As for who stands to benefit most from Belt and Road, Africans or Chinese, it’s probably too early to say, but the Africa Center for Strategic Studies reels off a number of benefits. They include:

Addressing Africa’s inadequate infrastructure, which is a bottleneck to Africa’s development. The World Bank estimates that Africa will need up to $170 billion in investment a year for 10 years to meet its infrastructure requirements.

East Africa’s projects, where most of the funds are being directed, could increase by up to $192 billion, if the projects are used profitably. Examples are the railway connecting Mombasa to Nairobi, and the electric railway from Addis Ababa to Djibouti, China’s first overseas naval base.

However there are a number of negatives and potential red flags that China’s Belt and Road partners need to watch out for. …

China was already building the New Silk Road when Trump got elected and started poking the Chinese dragon with the stick of escalating tariffs. There will be issues between China and Africa (and there have been some already). But China has been willing to pour more resources there than Europe or the US over the past decade or so.

But some of what China has been building in Africa will also benefit Europe.

The BRI, despite problems it will encounter, will increase trade between Europe and Asia and Africa.

Europe, Russia, and China are more and more upset with US trading policies and the timing of the BRI from China is getting various nations to directly and indirectly support it.

And yes, the world will one day essentially conclude that the US has been acting as a parasite (cf. Habakkuk 2:6-8).
