‘Police state’ rules and actions in place
A few days ago, I went over parts of the USA’s Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence and explained a little bit of how the USA in the 21st century is worse than the British government that it revolted against in the 18th century (see The Bill of Rights and Declaration on the 4th of July 2013).
But has the USA and some of its Anglo-allies taken steps to implement and/or support a ‘police state’? Many seem to think so and have various facts to demonstrate that. Here are several news posts from various sources:

Edward Snowden’s documentary exposure of secret NSA surveillance activities has brought to light details of the mass illegal collection of phone metadata and online transaction activity of both US citizens and individuals, organizations and governments around the world.

Presently, the NSA is building a facility called the Utah Data Center that is scheduled to open in September of this year. The $2 billion construction project in Bluffdale, 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, will be the largest cloud-based data storage facility in the world and the hub of the NSA’s cyber-espionage operations. At more than 1 million square feet, the top-secret and self-sustaining complex will host servers capable of storing yottabytes of data. A yottabyte (1024 bytes) is 1 trillion terabytes…
Threat of a police state
When considered within the context of the economic, social and political crisis of American capitalism, the unprecedented scale and scope of the NSA electronic eavesdropping on US citizens and others around the world has an ominous character to it. A US Army manual dated February 12, 2010 has recently been leaked and has been uploaded…here is just one point: H-43: “During a nonlethal engagement, the use of designated marksmen provides confidence and safety to those facing a riot. If a lethal threat is presented, the designated marksmen in overwatch positions (armed with appropriate sniper weapons mounted with high-powered scopes) can scan a crowd and identify agitators and riot leaders for apprehension and fire lethal rounds if warranted”. In other words, snipers are to scan a crowd and using their discretion can shoot and kill people. As a non-partisan, I did not support the Patriot Act from the Republican Bush Administration nor its essentially massive expansion under the Democratic Obama Administration. But the fact is that surveillance is increasing and more rights and freedoms are being taken away and are now capable of being taken away anytime the government decides that a situation/crisis/political opportunity calls for it.
Notice also the following from the UK and Canada:
The law and order solution, according to Dame Stella Rimington, the former head of MI5 who, per Mail Online affirms, “The enemy is everywhere,” is to recruit “the British people to inform security services if they suspect their neighbors maybe extremists.”
“She said further terror attacks on the UK were inevitable unless the country became a ‘police state,’” the report continued. That means being able to protect themselves as government policies devolve their culture into chaos will not be an option for ordinary people, as a “monopoly of violence” remains the exclusive province of the state.

Canada: New police state measure targets foreign workers
Taking advantage of the anti-immigrant chauvinism being fomented by the trade union bureaucracy and the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP), Canada’s ruling Conservative Party has granted itself sweeping powers to surveil temporary foreign workers, setting the stage for a further expansion of police-state measures against workers nationwide…
Stephen Harper’s Conservative government, like its Liberal predecessors, has been expanding the coercive powers of the state. Earlier this year, the Conservatives rammed “anti-terrorist” legislation through parliament that tramples on fundamental democratic principles, expanding the time police can hold a terrorist suspect without charge and giving the state, in violation of the right of silence, the power to compel persons to give evidence. Under secret government directives, the Canadian equivalent and partner of the U.S. National Security Agency—the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC)—has been spying on Canadians’ telephone and computer communications since 2005 it was revealed last month.
As I am not political in the worldly political party sense, I am not taking political party positions in this post. Notice that in Canada, like the USA, both major political parties have taken steps to increase the powers of the state.
The Bible tells of two coming times of persecution. Some of the persecution may come from ‘hidden sources,’ such as governmental surveillance. Notice God’s people are to pray for protection from that:
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows — bitter words,
4 That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear. (Psalms 64:2-4)
The Book of Daniel shows a two-part persecution coming (I added the a and b below for emphasis):
25 a He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand b For a time and times and half a time. (Daniel 7:25)
First of all (a), he shall persecute certain of the saints, which is consistent with what Jesus said was coming:
9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:9-14)
Much of the above will affect the Philadelphian Christians (cf. Revelation 12:13), but they will later be protected (Revelation 3:8-10) in the wilderness for a time, times, and half a time (Revelation 12:14-16; see also There is a Place of Safety for the Philadelphians. Why it May Be Petra). Part of why they will be persecuted is for proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and probably also for identifying the coming King of the North, who will not wish to be identified that way. This will likely result in internet and other restrictions on getting the truth of God out to the world (cf. Amos 8:11-12).
Second of all (b), the remaining saints will be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time. This is the portion of the COG, the non-Philadelphians, who are NOT protested in the wilderness as Revelation 12:17 shows this separation:
17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. (Revelation 12:17)
While many in the Church of God have experienced economic and social persecution in their walk with Christ, future severe persecution, beginning first with the Philadelphia remnant of Christians, is expected.
But a point that I wish to make clear it that the steps that the USA and certain other governments have taken are setting up for a time when the European Beast, also known as the final King of the North, power will rise up. A power that will force worship and control commerce:
15 He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. (Revelation 13:15-18)
37 And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch! (Mark 13:36-37)
