The Crisis of European Democracy…

Germany…has experienced continued, albeit slow, economic growth. Nevertheless, the public display of subterranean politics is just as marked in Germany as it is in other countries. Squares have been occupied all over the country, just as they have in Spain and Greece. For example, a wave of protests against infrastructure projects in major cities such as Stuttgart, Frankfurt, and Berlin has featured so-called “Wutbürger” (angry citizens), who object to the lack of transparency in the planning process and to the absence of citizens’ participation. Typically, Herr Guttenberg is mentioned because of his plagiarism. And this time it is referred to as part of the corruption of Europe’s “elite leadership.” Baron Guttenberg resigned his position as German Defense Minister when this became a major public matter and disgraced himself and others.

Why report about a European public official who has been considered corrupt?

Bible prophecy warns about a leader who was rejected who will rise up and lead Europe per Daniel 11:21-44. One verse to focus on is verse 21. Here are three translations of it from Catholic and Protestant sources:

21 And there shall stand up in his place one despised, and the kingly honour shall not be given him: and he shall come privately, and shall obtain the kingdom by fraud. (Daniel 11:21, Douay-Rheims)

Interestingly, the Baron was considered to have had a major chance to become Chancellor of Germany before the plagiarism scandal. In a sense, he was “a man spurned and passed over for advancement” as THE MESSAGE version of Daniel 11:21 indicates.

Yet, even though many despise Herr Guttenberg, some want him back (see Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North?) and he is still having influence in various aspects of foreign policy (e.g. Karl Guttenberg Interviewed and Lays Out Some of His Vision for European Union).

The DVD sermon that we watched here in Arroyo Grande last Sabbath was by LCG’s Dr. Douglas Winnail. Last November, he made some interesting statements regarding Herr Guttenberg:

Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg is a Habsburg…He said, “What Europe is suffering from is not so much a financial crisis, but a crisis of leadership.”

… Niall Ferguson…in the Wall Street Journal...he was saying, by 2020…, “The capital of Europe may well be in Vienna and we may see a revival of, or reconstitution of, the Habsburg Empire in Central Europe.”

Now this goes over a lot of people’s heads, but this is what Bible prophecy talks about. About a Beast power in Europe influenced by a strong Catholic Church. The Habsburgs provided a number of the emperors for the Holy Roman Empire. And Karl zu…Guttenberg has Habsburg blood.

As regular readers know, I have wondered if former German Defense Minister Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg was a candidate to possibly be the final King of the North of Daniel 11 and Beast of Revelation. The fact that he has had problems is consistent with biblical and other predictions.

So, he remains one to watch.

Of course, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg could simply be a somewhat politician with many ups and downs. And all his intentions could be fine. The fact that many in the press have somewhat written him off is not inconsistent with Bible prophecy.
