The situation with Russia and Ukraine has many concerned.

Russia’s foreign minister has reportedly suggested to President Vladimir Putin that Moscow use diplomacy to obtain concessions from the West, after U.S. officials warned a Russian attack on Ukraine could happen “any day now.”

Reuters reported on Monday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had said to Putin that the Kremlin should seek a diplomatic route toward procuring the security guarantees it has demanded, as tensions mount over its military activity at the Ukrainian border.

Russia is demanding that Ukraine never be permitted to become a NATO member, and has said it wants the organization to roll back its presence in Eastern Europe.

U.S. national security advisor Jake Sullivan told CNN on Sunday that a Russian attack on Ukraine could happen “any day now.” “That includes this coming week,” he said. …

An estimated 30,000 Russian troops are currently engaged in a 10-day program of military drills with neighboring Belarus, which also shares a border with Ukraine.

The drills, widely seen as a display of strength by Russia, come as more than 100,000 soldiers, tanks, missiles and even fresh blood supplies have been moved to Russia’s border with Ukraine.

Russia, Ukraine, Babylonian Europe, and Prophecy

The situation between Russia and Ukraine has again heated up, although it has been tense since the Euromaiden protests and Russia’s annexation of Crimea. There was later a separation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the Russian Orthodox Church. Is war prophesied for Russia and Ukraine? Are prophecies in the Bible associated with the ‘kings of the Medes’ and a power from the “north country” related to any in Russia and Ukraine? Is a confederation of powers from the north, east, and central Asia prophesied to destroy the coming end time European Babylon? Will the destruction be reminiscent of what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah? How is the King of the North and who will destroy him? Do those in Russia and Ukraine have a hope of salvation? Will Russia and powers of the east be involved in the gathering in Armageddon as prophesied in Revelation 16? Dr. Thiel addresses these issues.

February 15 marks the 80th anniversary of the fall of “Fortress Singapore” to the Imperial Japanese Army in WW2. I spent yesterday looking at memories of the physical, economic, and psychological shock of that previously inconceivable collapse. I quote from the diary of Captain MacPherson of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders lifted from HR Oppenheim, who conveys how/why this transpired:

“A. Lack of co-ordination; Viz B. Complete chaos at Headquarters; C. Lack of leadership and foresight.

1. Officers spent too much time in clubs and prior to this war refused to leave Singapore or KL and scout round for themselves. None knew the country though they had been stationed in it for a year or more, and few knew the language.
2. Many officers refused to leave Headquarters and most tried to be posted to cushy jobs.”

Swap British for American/Western, and clubs for think-tanks, and how redolent is that description of our current global architecture, as well as of last year’s fall of Kabul (and its market economy)? Just as pertinent, John Hemmings, Professor of Security Studies, asks: “As the period between WW1 and WW2 was merely an intermission, so the period between the Cold War and this current period of great power competition was an intermission. Discuss.” Indeed, we must – because Ukraine is a global metacrisis over what market architecture will look like ahead.

As a key example, Sam Greene, Professor of politics at Kings College London, stresses: “The inconvenient truth of the present crisis is that behind all the rhetoric about NATO, Moscow’s beef is fundamentally with the EU. It’s worth remembering that Russia’s 2014 invasion of Ukraine was sparked *by a trade treaty*, not by a near- or even mid-term threat of NATO expansion. And no, the EU is not a back door to NATO. If anything, the NATO is a back door to the EU, which is much, much harder to join. Moscow’s problem with the EU is geo-economic, which should not be read as being somehow less salient than geo-politics. Put briefly, the continued expansion of the European geo-economic project poses a threat to the current Kremlin’s political survival. The expansion of EU influence puts insurmountable pressure on the Russian political economy to move from a rent-based, patronal model of wealth creation and power relations, to a system of institutionalized competition. Having satellite states that are governed in the same patronalist mode as Russia gives Moscow geo-economic breathing space, adding years or decades to the system’s viability. Losing those satellites removes those years and decades.”

In short, the soft power of the EU and its markets are clashing with the hard power of Russia and its weaponry. Who wins? Not the market presumption they must win by default, and so war does not happen, “because markets”! The “inconvenient truth” is that the European Union is more and more concluding that, while it can be helpful with diplomacy, that it wants more military power in order to achieve its objectives.

This year’s Munich Security Report on the the global situation makes for grim reading. It sets the stage for one of the leading forums on defense and security policy: the annual Munich Security Conference.

The Munich Security Conference is an annual conference on international security policy that has been held since 1963. It is not an official government event, but a forum for informal and discrete discussions between the high-level international participants.

Looking back at the past 14 years, it is with some consternation that Wolfgang Ischinger “cannot recall a time when there were so many overlapping crises.” That’s a reference to the challenges posed by Iran, China and the evolving Euro-Atlantic security architecture. A long list that could still encompass many other global hot spots.

Indeed, the extraordinary profusion of unresolved crises is itself the central topic in this year’s MSR. Traditionally, the report is published just a couple of days before the arrival of the official guests at Munich’s legendary Hotel Bayerischer Hof. It sets both the agenda and the intellectual tone. This year, it’s titled “Turning the Tide – Unlearning Helplessness.”

‘Collective helplessness’

The report describes a mood of “collective helplessness.” In the same way as ordinary individuals, whole societies can be overcome by a sense that they simply have no answer to the challenges they face.

“There can be no doubt about it: 2021 could not in any way be characterized as a year of geopolitical optimism. Although there is a feeling of ‘collective helplessness’ in Europe, this will not remain for too many more years.

Europe does not want to fear Russia nor be reliant upon the USA.

Europe will reorganize and change.

When the children of Israel were facing a threat for a foreign power, they supported a change in government.

Instead of being a theocratically-led nation, it went for a dictatorial king:

12 And when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites came against you, you said to me, ‘No, but a king shall reign over us,’ when the Lord your God was your king. (1 Samuel 12:12)

The presence of Russia, migrant matters, concerns about the USA, religious issues, and economic matters will push Europe to change.

And after a series of events, including disastrous ones, the Bible shows that Europe will end up supporting a strong dictatorial leader:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

Notice the following prophecies about the one who will be in charge:

21 And in his place shall arise a vile person, to whom they will not give the honor of royalty; but he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue. (Daniel 11:21)

39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain. … the king of the North (Daniel 11:39, 40)

23 “And in the latter time of their kingdom,
When the transgressors have reached their fullness,
A king shall arise,
Having fierce features,
Who understands sinister schemes.
24 His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power;
He shall destroy fearfully,
And shall prosper and thrive;
He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people.

25 “Through his cunning
He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule;
And he shall exalt himself in his heart.
He shall destroy many in their prosperity. (Daniel 8:23-25)

The above leader is the final European King of the North Beast power. He is an autocrat. He will eliminate the USA, Canada, and the UK. It is likely that he may attack under the guise of a NATO exercise and/or otherwise feign military support for the USA and the UK. Regular readers of this page realize I have been warning about this for many years.

As far as being an autocratic strong man goes, old Radio and Worldwide Church of God published the following decades ago (bolding mine):

The prophecy of Daniel 11 details events — at that time, still future — dynasty, and later, in the New Testament times, to the Emperor of the Roman Empire. … in its final end-time application, the “king of the north” is the prophesied strong man who will lead a coming union of ten European nations — the seventh and final revival of the ancient Roman Empire prophesied by Daniel and in the book of Revelation (see Revelation 17:12-13). When Europe has faced various crises, some there will be persuaded to support an autocratic leader.

That is what the Bible teaches.

This will not end well for the USA, nor Canada, the UK, Australia, or New Zealand. Nor will it end well for the Muslim nations (cf. Daniel 11:40-43)–nor, ultimately for Europe itself (cf. Daniel 11:44-45; Revelation 17:14).
