Russia says it may have killed Islamic State’s Caliph Baghdadi

A major Islamic terrorist may be dead:

he Russian military said Friday it is investigating whether an airstrike in the Syrian desert has killed Abu Bakr Baghdadi, Islamic State’s self-described “caliph.”

The death of one of the world’s most-wanted jihadist leaders would be a military victory for Russia and a setback for the militants, who are battling for control of strongholds in Iraq and Syria, including their de facto capital in Raqqah.

“If confirmed, Baghdadi’s death will be a powerful blow to the IS. It has been retreating on all fronts, and the death of its leader will accelerate its demise,” tweeted Alexei Pushkov, the head of the upper house of the Russian parliament’s committee for information policies.

Igor Korotchenko, a member of the Russian Ministry of Defense’s Public Council, an advisory board, said the death of the Islamic State leader would dramatically change Russia’s operation in Syria, speeding their war on terror.

“It fundamentally changes the course of the military operation, because the command center, the ‘brains of the organization’ is destroyed, and the remaining terrorists will be less effective,” he told the Russian newspaper, Evening Moscow.

Presuming he is dead, that is consistent with my longstanding belief that Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi would not succeed to become the leader of the biblically prophesied King of the South. On August 10, 2014, I posted the following:

Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has been a brutal terrorist. Much of the following applies to him and his followers:

1 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! (2 Timothy 3:1-6)

As far as the Islamic State itself goes, more and more are getting outraged by actions it and its followers are part of. It has been attacked by the USA, France, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, and others. A coalition is building, and the time will come when a coalition of states in the Middle East and North Africa will form, likely with Western encouragement, partially to deal with Islamic terrorists.

Even if he is not dead let me add that there is no way I believe that the ‘caliph’ of the Islamic State, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, will lead the coalition that the Bible refers to as led by the King of the South (Daniel 11:40-43).
