Sainthood for the Habsburgs? Will a descendant promote European peace, but bring destruction?

Prayers — and Royalty — Never Die: The Habsburg Dynasty

Archduke Rudolf of Austria, 69, is a very busy man. Having worked in the financial sector for decades, he now concentrates on holiness: promoting the cause for beatification of his grandmother, Servant of God Zita, the last empress of Austria; monitoring progress toward sainthood of his grandfather, Blessed Charles I (or Karl), the last emperor of Austria and the last king of Hungary (who reigned from Nov. 21, 1916-Nov. 11, 1918); being a father to eight children, including four in religious life; and supporting favorite charities, … and co-founding the Zermatt Summit, dedicated to “humanizing globalization” and projecting the Catholic Church’s social teaching as an antidote to the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland.

In a rare interview, senior international correspondent Victor Gaetan spoke to the humble paterfamilias to learn more about the enduring devotion of this legendary Catholic family, a pillar of European civilization, the Habsburgs. …

Your grandfather, Emperor Charles I of Austria and king of Hungary, who reigned from 1916 to 1918, was well-known for his devotion to God, to the Church and to his family. ... Charles is the only 20th-century ruler to be beatified — by Pope St. John Paul II in 2004. How is Blessed Charles’ cause for sainthood progressing?

The greatest work to establish sainthood is done before beatification.  The positio is compiled, a whole 2,000-page history proving his life was heroic, and a miracle is identified. … The next step is canonization, and what is needed is a second miracle; only two or three are analyzed by the postulator, Andrea Ambrosi, who is in Rome. He is hopeful regarding one potential miracle in particular, but it takes some time to make sure everything is absolutely correct before you close the file.  …

Blessed Charles and his wife, your grandmother, Empress Zita, were a very close, loving couple. His feast day is Oct. 21, the anniversary date of their marriage in 1911. What is the status of her cause?

For the last 10 years, on behalf of my family, I’ve been working on the process of beatification for my grandmother. It is moving quite nicely. One miracle is being analyzed, and the lifetime research is finished. A total of 36 people testified about her. I was one. I was sworn in and had to answer 276 questions — 18 hours of interrogation. It is a very serious process.

At your talk at University of Notre Dame six years ago, you told a fascinating story about Pope Pius X’s prophesy that your grandfather would become the emperor when he was not a direct successor at the time. Did Empress Zita tell you that story herself, or did you read it?

Both. I knew her very well because she was not only my grandmother but also my godmother. We had a close relationship.

Between the two wars, she testified for the beatification of Pius X, and one of the accounts she shared was this: In 1911, she visited the Pope to receive a blessing for her upcoming marriage.

The Holy Father said, “When you and Charles become emperor and empress, you will have to do whatever you can to make peace in Europe.” He added, “Charles is the present from God to Austria and your family for being faithful to the Church and the faith.”

Yet in 1911, Emperor Franz Josef was on the throne and his nephew Franz Ferdinand, the heir, was still alive. His assassination in 1914, which triggered World War I, put your grandfather in the line of succession. So the Pope gave your grandmother a mission, an assignment that was puzzling to her.

Absolutely, and devotion to peace was their way of life, so it was not a problem. …

Your grandfather died tragically at the age of 35 of pneumonia in 1922, leaving your grandmother to raise eight children in exile, with few resources. Yet she never lost faith and lived a long life. She died in 1989, at age 96. How did she explain why God allowed the evil that invaded Europe in the 20th century, such as communism?

She followed very closely what happened with the Church, and she knew very well about Fatima since 1917 [which occurred while her husband was emperor].

One of the mysteries of Fatima was that if the world did not convert, the communists would spread their bad ideology throughout the world, until Russia was consecrated to the Holy Virgin Mary. Finally, it was Pope John Paul II who did that. And then, obviously, communism fell. …

Empress Zita died in spring 1989, at age 96, in Vienna, Austria …  Some 250,000 people participated in the funeral. What did her funeral say about the way your family is perceived in Hungary?

They absolutely realized that our family tried to stop the war [World War I] to help them and to do what we could as king and queen, because [being] queen and king is a holy service to a country. …

in May 1990. I understand that your uncle, Archduke Otto von Habsburg, the eldest son of Karl and Zita, the last crown prince (1916-1918), was asked by the new parliament, which elects the president, to stand as a candidate for the presidency. Is that so?

Yes. A majority of the parliamentarians who wanted him were from the Smallholders Party, I think, and some conservative groups. They asked my uncle Otto if he would accept to be elected president. And he said No, not unless he is called back because he should be king. And that ended that.  …

Please give our readers some examples of how you and your wife bolstered the children in faith.

We took them to Mass often, even during the week. We made sure they went to holy confession. In our days, you can’t say, “Children: Go to church!” You have to say, “Come with us to church.” It is not the way it was 50 or 60 years ago.

We made pilgrimages with them, for example, to Medjugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina and to Częstochowa in Poland.  10/21/2019 http://www.ncregister.com/daily-news/prayers-and-royalty-never-die-the-habsburg-dynasty

There are several points in the article to comment on.

Perhaps the first is that the Church of Rome still seems to hold very positive views towards the Habsburg family. It seems to believe it was a source of peace.

Secondly, it shows that the Habsburgs are still devoted to the Church of Rome and must also be interested in Marian apparitions, since the Archduke referred to both Fatima and Medjugorje (which are sites of claimed Marian appearances; see also Mary, the Mother of Jesus and the Apparitions). Częstochowa is the site of a Marian icon and has been claimed to be “the third-largest Catholic pilgrimage site in the world. Home to the beloved miraculous icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa” (http://www.miraclehunter.com/marian_apparitions/approved_apparitions/czestochowa/ accessed 10/27/19).

The third is that the article referred to what it considers to be fulfilled Catholic prophecies related to Fatima (see also the book Fatima Shock! What the Vatican Does Not Want You to Know About Fatima, Dogmas of Mary, and Future Apparitions) and the Habsburg family (cf. The Great Monarch: Biblical and Catholic Prophecies and Might German Baron Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg become the King of the North?).

And another is that the above report shows that Otto von Habsburg was not interested in being president of Hungary, but in being king.

There are claims that the Habsburg line descended from Charlemagne, and King Pepin and part of the Carlovingians. Whether or not they were, they were successors to the ‘Holy Roman Empire’ ruled by Charlemagne then the Carlovingians. Notice some Catholic prophecies:

Prophecy D’ Orval (18th century): Come, young Prince, leave the Island of Captivity. Join the lion to the white flower. Come … The powerful man, assisted by God, will establish himself well. Many wise laws shall restore peace. This scion of Capet will be so prudent and wise that all men will believe God to be with him. Thanks to the Father of mercies, the Holy Sion (Holy Catholic Church) sings again in the temples, One only God. Many poor wandering sheep (Protestants) shall come to drink of the living spring of truth and grace. Three princes and kings shall throw off the garb of error, and will see clearly in the faith of God. At this time two-thirds of a great nation of the sea (England) shall reassume the true faith. (Rossi G. THE CHRISTIAN TRUMPET, OR, Previsions and Predictions about Impending General Calamities, The Universal Triumph of the Church, The Coming of Antichrist, The Last Judgment, and The End of the World. Compiled by PELLEGRINO [Gaudentius Rossi], A Missionary Priest with Superior’s permission. Boston, THOS. B. NOONAND & CO., 1873, pp. 17-18)

St. Remigius (494): “Take notice, my child,” St. Remigius said to King Clovis, “that the kingdom of France is predestined by God for the defense of the Roman Church, which is the only true Church of Christ. This kingdom shall one day be great among the kingdoms of the Earth, and shall embrace all the limits of the Roman Empire, and shall submit all other kingdoms to its own scepter. “It shall last until the end of time. “It shall be victorious and prosperous as long as it will remain faithful to the Holy Roman See, and will not be guilty of any of those crimes which ruin nations; but it shall be rudely punished every time that it will become unfaithful to its vocation.” (Rossi, p. 20)

Venerable Abbé Necktou (18th century): A man disliked by France will be placed on the throne; a man of the house of Orleans shall be made king. It is only after this event that the counter-revolution shall begin. (Rossi, p.30)

Francis I was the father of Charles de Valois, Duke of Orléans. The Capet line is also known as “The House of France.” Perhaps it should be mentioned that Priest Rossi’s commentary of the statements of Remigius seem to be that it was the essentially the descendants of Charlemagne are the ones destined to support Rome–and the Archduke seems to be in that camp. An interesting observation of Remigius’ prophecy is that the last statement above indicates that perhaps the last king may also betray Rome, and that is consistent with biblical prophecy (Revelation 17:9,16). Whoever the final “King of the North” will be, he will betray the church that will be based out of the city of seven hills.

While various Roman and Eastern Orthodox prophecies point to this leader being German and/or French, the following has an interesting added comment:

Brother Louis Rocco (died 1840): A Catholic descendant of a German imperial house (Hapsburg?) will rule a united Germany with peace, prosperity and great power, for God will be with this sovereign (Great Monarch?) … A Great Monarch will arise after a period of terrible wars and persecutions in Europe. He will be a Catholic, he will not be a German (by birth?). (Culleton, The Prophets and Our Times. Imprimatur Bishop P.G. Scher, November 15, 1941. TAN reprint, p. 195).

Anonymou Paraphrasis (10th century): And the name of his Father is divine [or august, i.e. having an “imperial title”]. (Tzima Otto, The Great Monarch and WWIII in Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and Scriptural Prophecies, p. 40)

That Hapsburg comment was added by Priest Culleton. An imperial title could possibly include something like duke or baron.

The “House of Habsburg” is perhaps best known for being an origin of all of the formally elected Holy Roman Emperors between 1438 and 1740. Here is a photo of the crown of that empire:

Sometime ago, a reader forwarded me an item about the late Otto von Habsburg that stated that one of his titles was the King of Jerusalem.

Crown of the Beast of Revelation?
Crown of the old “Holy Roman Empire”

Though I believe I had heard this before, I decided to confirm it with other sources, such as the following from The Economist:

Archduke Otto von Habsburg, son of the last Austro-Hungarian emperor…

In 1922 he became the head of the House of Habsburg: “Your Majesty” to legitimists, and by the Grace of God “Emperor of Austria; King of Hungary and Bohemia, Dalmatia, Croatia, Slavonia, Galicia and Lodomeria; King of Jerusalem, etc; Archduke of Austria; Grand Duke of Tuscany and Cracow; Duke of Lorraine, Salzburg, Styria, Carinthia, Carniola and Bukowina; Grand Prince of Transylvania; Margrave of Moravia; Duke of Silesia, Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Guastalla, Auschwitz and Zator, Teschen, Friaul, Dubrovnik and Zadar; Princely Count of Habsburg and Tyrol, of Kyburg, Gorizia and Gradisca; Prince of Trento and Brixen; Margrave of Upper and Lower Lusatia”. His other titles were more minor. http://www.economist.com/node/18956124

Because of this title, one wonders what some of the Europeans really have in mind for Jerusalem in the 21st century. Otto von Habsburg was last Crown Prince of the Austria-Hungary Empire, which was somewhat of a relic of the old Holy Roman Empire.

The late Herbert W. Armstrong used to believe that Otto von Habsburg was one to watch as a leader in Europe. Otto von Habsburg was quite influential in helping put together what is now the empire called the European Union.

All the emperors of the old “Holy Roman Empire” were part of what has been known as the Habsburg line. Charlemagne was crowned the first Holy Roman Emperor, reputedly with the crown shown above, by Pope Leo III in Rome on Christmas Night, 800 AD. And now, over 1200 years later, the descendants of that family are still influential in and near Europe.

Although he does not have the word “Habsburg” in his incredibly long name, Baron Karl Theodor Maria Nikolaus Johann Jacob Philipp Franz Joseph Sylvester Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg’s mother was a Habsburg which means that the Baron is a descendant of that line too–hence he may “legally” also be entitled to the use of the King of Jerusalem title (especially if some ceremony “officially transfers” that title to him). He is a Roman Catholic and one to watch in European politics as I have often written. He, for example, may just become the final one that the Bible refers to as the King of the North (Daniel 11:21-45) and Beast (Revelation 13). If the Baron is the one, having influential distant relatives may assist his attainment to power.

The legacy of Otto von Habsburg and his parents is likely to be favorable towards Karl zu Guttenberg.

The one, we in the CCOG believe that the Bible warns against, is often encouraged and called the Great Monarch in Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic prophecy (see The Great Monarch: Biblical and Catholic Prophecies).

The legacy of the Habsburgs is not forgotten.

The Bible tells of a leader that will rise up proclaiming peace:

25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. (Daniel 8:25, KJV).

23 And after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people. 24 He shall enter peaceably, even into the richest places of the province; and he shall do what his fathers have not done, nor his forefathers: he shall disperse among them the plunder, spoil, and riches; and he shall devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time. (Daniel 11:23-24, NKJV)

So this leader gives people the impression that there will be “peace” and is involved in some type of deal. This is the same leader that confirms the covenant in Daniel 9:27 (see The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27). The term is translated as “peace” in Daniel 8:25 is from the Hebrew term shalvah and essentially means security. In other words, this leader will destroy “many” who are under the impression that they are secure because of some type of security and/or trade arrangement. Such arrangements are now commonly referred to as peace deals or treaties. Land swaps or changes to territories are likely.

Since the prophesied deal has not been confirmed, at least not publicly, the Great Tribulation would seem to be at least 3 1/2 years away (see also When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?).

The Apostle Paul warned:

3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. (1 Thessalonians 5:3)

The coming King of the North will be one who helps fulfill the above.

It looks highly likely he will be a Habsburg.
