Supreme Court Justice compares new USA to Third Reich
Is a ‘fourth reich’ in the process of forming in the USA? Notice some comments to, from, and about a US Supreme Court Justice:
In a recent town hall meeting where citizens had the opportunity to pose questions to Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, he basically compared the judiciary in modern America with that of Nazi Germany.
Kennedy, the swing vote in the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in June to create “same-sex marriage,” was asked about Kentucky county Clerk Kim Davis, who was jailed for nearly a week by U.S. District Judge David Bunning after the Supreme Court’s marriage ruling when she refused Bunning’s order to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couple in violation of her faith.
At the meeting, a young man took the microphone and asked the following of Kennedy:
You claim new insights into the nature of marriage require states to issue marriage licenses in accord with this alternative version of marriage. And I can understand a similar case, probably more attractive to those of us who think that rational norms guide the exercise of sexual autonomy like they do economic autonomy, that would be that new insights into the nature of human life require states to take steps to stop abortions.
My question would be, in either of these cases, would you say that there are any state or federal officials with authority to act according to her own judgment of the truth of new insights or of the soundness of the court’s constitutional interpretation, or would it be illegal for any federal official or state official to act according to the old understanding of life and the Constitution that she still judges to be the truth of the matter?
Justice Kennedy replied:
If I could rephrase it in a fair way, what is the duty of a public official if he or she cannot in good conscience, and consistent with their own personal and religious beliefs, enforce a law they think is morally corrupt?
How many judges do you think resigned in the Third Reich? Three. Great respect, it seems to me, has to be given to people who resign rather than do something they think is morally wrong, in order to make a point. However, the rule of law is that, as a public official and performing your legal duties, you are bound to enforce the law. It’s difficult sometimes to see whether or not what you’re doing is transgressing your own personal philosophies – this requires considerable introspection. It’s a fair question that officials can and should ask themselves. But certainly in an offhand comment, it would be difficult for me to say that people are free to ignore a decision of the Supreme Court. Lincoln went through this in the Dred Scott case. These are difficult moral questions.
On his Facebook page, Ted Cruz posted the video and made the following observation:
When a Supreme Court justice compares his own lawless rulings to the draconian oppression of the Nazis – and says that Christians should resign from public office if they will not surrender to his imperious decrees – that really says it all. Those are his words, not mine. Justice Kennedy is holding up the Nazis as exemplars for the current Supreme Court.
I, for one, would rather stand with heroes like Bonhoeffer, than the tyrants who inflicted unspeakable evil. And the persecution of Christians – in Iran, China, or America – is simply wrong.
As WND reported, Justice Kennedy would resign if he followed his own instructions to others, according to Liberty Counsel, the national religious-rights law firm representing Davis.
In a prepared statement, Liberty Counsel said the message was clear: “Government officials who disagree with him and his four other colleagues regarding their newly invented and groundless marriage opinion ought to resign.” http://www.wnd.com/2015/10/cruz-justice-kennedy-compares-own-ruling-to-nazi-germany/#K4mIokdZq9wCJwUH.99
Justice Anthony Kennedy, a member of the Supreme Court’s conservative bloc who nevertheless has authored several important gay rights opinions, suggested during an event at Harvard Law School last Thursday that public officials who do not wish to follow the Court’s marriage equality decision should resign.
Kennedy’s remarks came in response to a question from a student who described himself as someone who thinks “that rational norms guide the exercise of sexual autonomy.” The student asked whether public officials who disagree with the Court’s decisions on marriage equality or abortion have “authority to act according to her own judgment” of whether the Court’s legal reasoning was sound.
The justice did acknowledge the “difficult moral questions” presented when a public official is asked to “enforce a law that they believe is morally corrupt.” He also steered away from explicitly stating that officials such as Kim Davis, who famously refused to issue marriage licenses due to her opposition to the Court’s marriage equality decision, must resign her office.
Nevertheless, the thrust of Kennedy’s remarks suggested that he believes that officials in Davis’s position should choose to either follow the law or resign. After alluding to the fact that very few judges resigned from the Nazi German government, Kennedy offered his endorsement to officials who do quit when asked to do something they find morally repugnant. “Great respect, it seems to me, has to be given to people who resign rather than do something they view as morally wrong, in order to make a point,” Kennedy told the Harvard audience. http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2015/10/26/3716305/justice-kennedy-suggests-that-kim-davis-should-resign/
In the Third Reich there were book burnings as well as suppression of ideas. While we are not yet having government book burning in the USA, suppression of ideas and religious views is occurring.
There are also two bills in the Congress of the USA (one in the Senate and one in the House of Representatives) to reduce freedom of conscience in the USA (here is a link to a YouTube video Is the US Congress eliminating the 1st Amendment?).
While the USA is not the ‘Fourth Reich,’ it is taking steps consistent with some we will see in the ‘Fourth Reich,’ and the USA itself will be taken over by a Germanic-led European ‘Fourth Reich’ power.
What exactly is the ‘fourth reich’? Notice one interpretation:
The Fourth Reich (German: Viertes Reich) is a theoretical future German empire, following the First Reich (the Holy Roman Empire, 962–1806), the Second Reich (Imperial Germany, 1871–1918) and the Third Reich (Nazi Germany, 1933–1945). (Wikipedia, accessed 04/03/15)
The Third Reich had massive censorship, religious and otherwise, with deadly consequences for those that would not go along. The Bible tells of a future Reich (reich means reign) that will be even worse (Revelation 13).
Biblically, the final European King of the North will lead a revived ‘Holy Roman Empire.’ This will be the empire of the Beast power of Revelation 13 which kills it ideological opponents. This new world order, which will have German dominance, will in a sense be its fourth reich.
Expect more suppression of religious ideas that do not agree with the mainstream in the USA. The time will come when real Christians will not be able to publicly speak out in the USA. A ‘famine of the word’ is coming (Amos 8:12; see also Preparing for the ‘Short Work’ and The Famine of the Word). We are getting closer to the time already on matters such as homosexuality (watch the YouTube video Is the US Congress eliminating the 1st Amendment?).
Biblically, this time of government suppression is expected (Amos 8:12). And this will be allowed by the government of the USA shortly before the ‘Fourth Reich’ takes it over.
The Bible tells of a time when a European power will also dominate the world economically (Revelation 18)–and Germany will be a major factor in this. although there will be problems in Europe (Daniel 2:41-43), after some reorganizations it will arise (Revelation 17:12-13).
A ‘fourth reich’ is in the process of being made, but it is not here yet. But something that can be called that will arrive.
