Theresa May confident UK Supreme Court will accept Brexit

Theresa May has said she is “confident” that the government will win its appeal against a High Court ruling on triggering Brexit talks.

She told European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker and Germany’s Angela Merkel she was committed to triggering Article 50 by March 2017.

Three judges ruled that she cannot do so without Parliament’s support. …

The government is appealing against Thursday’s ruling to the Supreme Court – all 11 judges are due to hear the case in early December.

The prime minister called Mr Juncker and Mrs Merkel on Friday morning. Her spokesman said she told them the government was “disappointed” at Thursday’s court ruling but that “the focus of the government is on the Supreme Court case. We are confident of winning that case and proceeding with Article 50”.

If it loses that appeal, it is expected that the government will have to publish some form of new law for MPs – and the House of Lords – to vote on.

But Former deputy prime minister Nick Clegg – now the Lib Dems’ Europe spokesman – said his party would seek to join with others “in both the House of Commons and the House of Lords to amend the legislation” to tell the government to pursue a “soft Brexit” that would keep the UK within the EU’s single market.

He told Radio 4’s Today that he also wanted to give the public “a say” on the final deal after EU negotiations are complete.

What happens next?

The government’s appeal is expected to be heard in early December by the full Supreme Court – 11 judges – for the first time in its history.

The judgement may not be handed down until January.

If the appeal fails, it is thought the government will then have to bring forward legislation – which would have to be approved by both Houses of Parliament.

The bill could be subject to amendments. MPs and peers may push for more details of the government’s negotiating strategy or possibly for a second referendum.

I intentionally did not report about the UK court ruling yesterday as I wanted to wait to hear what the plan of the UK’s Prime Minister would be. Now we have an idea.

For those not particularly familiar with this, Brexit stands for BRitish EXIT from the European Union. On June 23, 2016, contrary to the views of the pollsters, the citizens of the UK voted to leave the European Union. A court in the UK ruled yesterday this departure needs approval of the British Parliament, but the Prime Minister and others disagree.

We will see what happens with the appeal to the UK Supreme Court.

Oh no, not more trouble! The road to Britain’s departure from the European Union is becoming rockier and yes, more chaotic. On the one hand, the British prime minister still does not know what and how she wants to negotiate with her European partners. On the other hand, the British Royal Court of Justice’s first ruling was a slap in the face because it stipulates that only parliament can trigger Article 50.

Until now, the new iron lady was banking on royal prerogative powers that would allow her to officially bypass parliament. Until recently, the conservative Brexit enforcer believed that the referendum itself was enough to catapult Great Britain out of the EU. Judges in London have a different view: They insist on a parliamentary vote.

Comically enough, a hairdresser and an investment manager and not parliament, as one would expect, pursued this goal. But people have seen a lot in the Brexit saga. If you consider the Brexiteer’s referendum campaign lies and deception or the eccentric foreign minister who is a weather vane that points in the direction of the populists he is addressing, the somewhat bizarre legal dispute over the initiation of Brexit does not shock anyone. …

As long as Brexit is delayed, uncertainty will remain. Government leaders from EU states had already asked their British counterpart to launch concrete negotiations as quickly as possible, if the Britons really wanted to leave the bloc. No one in Brussels believes that Brexit can be prevented in courtrooms or in parliament. EU headquarters have no influence on the obstinate Britons anymore. So, some of the Europeans consider that the British are chaotic and obstinate. This suggests that many of the continental Europeans will be happy to have the UK leave the European Union.

As I have written for years, the UK will NOT be an equal part of the final European Beast power.

One day, Europe will reorganize and turn over power to a dictator:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

The issues with Brexit will not prevent this. The UK will be taken over one day by the final European Beast power.

The Bible is clear that despite problems, Europe will unify:

41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. (Daniel 2:41-43)

The EU is partly strong and partly fragile and does not adhere well together, but consider that the Bible shows that the final European Beast power will only have a temporal rule:

24 The ten horns are ten kings
Who shall arise from this kingdom.
And another shall rise after them;
He shall be different from the first ones,
And shall subdue three kings.
25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
Shall persecute the saints of the Most High,
And shall intend to change times and law.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand
For a time and times and half a time. (Daniel 7:24-25)

5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months. 6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. (Revelation 13:5-10)

42 months is 3 1/2 years as is ” a time and times and half a time” (see also When Will the Great Tribulation Begin?). This Beast is a European power (watch also Can You Prove that the Beast to Come is European?).

US presidential candidate Donald Trump supported the Brexit vote, whereas his opponent Hillary Clinton opposed those in the UK who wanted to vote to leave the EU.

No matter who wins, the current presidential election in the USA will have an impact on Europe. And ultimately, that will NOT turn out well for the USA (Daniel 8:24-25a, 11:39)–nor for the UK (Daniel 8:24-25a).
