US President Donald Trump says that Mexico is not responding well enough to stop migrants who wish to come to the USA:

WASHINGTON — The United States and Mexico hold more talks Thursday about migrant policy as a U.S. deadline looms for Mexico to take more action to control the number of people reaching the border or face tariffs on Mexican goods sent to the U.S. market.
If no agreement is reached, U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to apply the 5% tariff beginning Monday, with monthly escalations up to as much as 25% by October.
“Progress is being made, but not nearly enough!” he tweeted late Wednesday. “The higher the Tariffs go, the higher the number of companies that will move back to the USA!”
He added Thursday in comments to reporters, “We’ve told Mexico the tariffs go on, and I mean it too.”
Mexican Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, who has led a delegation of negotiators in Washington this week, said after talks ended Wednesday that he remains optimistic the two sides will work out a deal.
“What we want to avoid is the impact of the tariffs for the two economies, for the consumers, for the people of both countries,” he told reporters.
He said both countries have been able to lay out their positions and that the dialogue would continue. …
Some Republican lawmakers, normally close political allies of Trump, have said they will try to block the tariffs with legislation, which also would draw wide support from opposition Democrats. Numerous lawmakers fear rising consumer costs for Americans if the tariffs are imposed on Mexican goods, including cars and numerous food products exported to the U.S.
Trump said Republicans would be “foolish” to try to stop him from imposing the tariffs.

Time is running out before Washington is set to impose new levies of 5% on all Mexican goods entering the US, and with talks set to resume on Thursday, both sides are on tenterhooks.
Trump, who is in Europe on Thursday commemorating the lives lost during D-Day, said that “not nearly enough” progress has been made during talks between Marcelo Ebrada and a top US trade official. In fact, it’s unclear how much progress can be made on any deal before Trump returns from his trip abroad. …
Ultimately, Trump has said he also believes Mexico wants to make a deal, but what they have proposed so far hasn’t been sufficient.
The biggest assurance that the US is seeking, according to Peter Navarro, a White House advisor on trade, is an assurance that Mexico will hold asylum seekers on its side of the border while they await heir asylum hearings. As candidate Trump, he continually said he would make Mexico pay for a border wall one way or the other–I always suspected he was going to go for tariffs–and he has.
That being said, his statements on Mexico the past couple of days sound like a negotiation tactic to me.
Mexico does not want the tariffs and hopes to work this out.

In the spirit of accommodation and personal interest, many of the “standards” of the European Union will be adopted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, as well as by nearly all of the countries of the world. …
However, over time, it will become increasingly clear that the British will be in more agreement with the Canadians and Americans and that the European Union in more agreement with the Mexicans than the EU will have with the English-speaking nations.
Trade wars and/or serious trade disputes will most likely arise.
The Brits will ultimately decide that they are more supportive of the Americans and Canadians. They will be so much more supportive that they will end up in a trading agreement with them (with the Australians and New Zealanders probably also becoming part of that agreement).
The EU will decide that Mexico and the rest of Latin America are in more agreement with it and thus make some type of serious trading agreement with most (or all) of Latin America. The Vatican will also have influence here as Latin America is highly Roman Catholic.
The Europeans and Americans, however, will continue to have military agreements, though many will be tense about them.
Eventually, the Europeans (possibly under the cover of pretending that they are involved in a “NATO-like” exercise in North America) will eventually launch a surprise attack against the United States in fulfillment of both biblical and Catholic prophecies. His statement about getting rid of the shackles refers to the UK getting out of the European Union. Donald Trump has long been pro-Brexit.
So, this week, the US President has both pushed against trade with Mexico and towards trade with the United Kingdom, consistent with my 2008 warning.
This does not mean that the US will not have some type of deal with Mexico.
But Mexico does not like to be bullied.

One day, Mexico, in my view, will align with Europe against the USA militarily.
The Bible teaches that the European King of the North power will takeover the USA and divide its land for gain:
39 Thus he shall act against the strongest fortresses with a foreign god, which he shall acknowledge, and advance its glory; and he shall cause them to rule over many, and divide the land for gain (Daniel 11:39)
The “he” is the European King of the North. The nation with the strongest fortresses in the 21st century is the USA, and this is a prophecy about the elimination of the nation of the USA. Dividing the land for gain indicates that the European King of the North will not keep control over all of the formerly US land.
Many in Mexico believe that the USA improperly took lands ranging from Texas to California and points in-between. They believe that they are entitled to receive that land back. It has been called the “reconquista” (“re-conquering” in English).
I expect that Mexico will end up with at least some of its claimed lands back this century.
