Turkey makes a deal with the EU: a prelude to more to come?

Turkey announced today that it would sign a new visa deal with the European Union (EU):

December 4, 2013

BRUSSELS – Turkey said Wednesday it will sign a long-awaited deal with the EU to repatriate those who enter the bloc illegally from its territory, in exchange for talks on visa-free travel for its citizens.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told journalists in Brussels the readmission accord would be signed on December 16.
The deal had stalled in 2012, with Turkey refusing to sign as the EU would not commit to starting negotiations on the visa-free travel regime applied to other candidate countries.
“Today is an historic day,” Davutoglu said during a press conference with the 28-nation bloc’s home affairs commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom and enlargement chief Stefan Fuele.
“We will launch the process of visa liberalisation and sign the (readmission) agreement on December 16 … This has been Turkey’s objective for many years,” he added.
He said the procedure should see the lifting of visa restrictions in three and a half years at the most. http://www.middle-east-online.com/english/?id=63027

While I do not believe that Turkey will become a full member of the EU prior to the start of the Great Tribulation, I do believe that it will likely make other deals with the Europeans.

The Bible shows that an alliance involving Arab, Turkish, and European nations will make a destructive deal:

3 They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, And consulted together against Your sheltered ones. 4 They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.” 5 For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You: 6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites; 7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre; 8 Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. (Psalms 83:3-8)

Notice that the Bible indicates that the Turks (who are not Arabs, but seem to be Edom in scripture) will make a deal with the rising European power (Assyria above), along with the Arabs and Turkey (Psalm 83).

The Bible also shows that Turkey will, for a time, support the future King of the South:

40 “At the time of the end the king of the South shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many countries shall be overthrown; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. (Daniel 11:40-42)

Since Turkey appears to be a supporter of the King of the South, it would seem it would not be part of the final European power, but instead cooperate with it.  Since Edom escapes what happens to the King of the South, despite some future deal with the Arabs, Turkey is apparently not a going to be a strong supporter of the final King of the South for very long.

Apparently it will be for a short while: it is likely that those that escape the wrath of the King of the North (like Turkey) are among supposed allies of the King of the South who will betray the King of the South:

25 “He shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the South with a great army. And the king of the South shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand, for they shall devise plans against him. 26 Yes, those who eat of the portion of his delicacies shall destroy him; his army shall be swept away, and many shall fall down slain. (Daniel 11:25-26)

Since Turkey is associated with the King of the South in Daniel 11:40-43, but escapes what the King of the North does, this would seem to be because Turkey, and perhaps others, will betray that Arab king.

Interestingly, notice the following Catholic prophecy about betrayal:

Nostradamus: The Great Arab shall progress well forward, But betrayed shall be by the Byzantines. (Turks).

Comment on above from Catholic writer Yves Dupont: Here, we are told that Turkey will break its faith with the rest of the Arab world. (Dupont, Yves. Catholic Prophecy: The Coming Chastisement. TAN Books, Rockford (IL), 1973, p. 107).

The “Great Arab” is probably supposed to represent the Mahdi/Caliph, the final King of the South. The Turks currently control Byzantium and have for many centuries. Hence, Catholic prophecy indicates that Turkey will betray the Islamic Arabic power.

The Turks can be quite pragmatic and will, despite occasional/frequent issues with the EU/Europeans, ultimately provide some support to the final King of the North power.
