TW on Earthquakes, Plus Oklageddon
(Choo photo)
Today’s TW News & Prophecy from the Living Church of God has the following:
More earthquakes.
Saturday, November 5, Oklahoma was hit by the largest earthquake on record in the state–a quake of 5.6 magnitude. While the quake did little damage, it scared many people who are used to tornados, but not earthquakes. The quake was felt as far away as Washington, DC, and South Carolina–1,000 miles away (Reuters, November 6, 2011).
Oklahoma has about 50 small quakes a year. However, last year (2010) the state experienced 1,047 quakes! This sudden surge in earthquakes has puzzled scientists. Some suspect that hydraulic fracturing of rocks to release natural gas may be contributing to the quakes (Associated Press, November 7, 2011).
The record-breaking Oklahoma quake comes after a 7.2 magnitude quake hit Eastern Turkey on October 23, killing more than 500, and a 7.4 magnitude quake hit deep underground in the Kermadec Islands region in the South Pacific, on October 21 (www.usgs.gov). These recent quakes are noteworthy both because of their magnitude and their locations.
Jesus predicted, almost 2,000 years ago, that “earthquakes in diverse places” would be just one of the signs that would precede His Second Coming and the end of the age (Matthew 24:7). As time goes on, expect to see more earthquakes, with more devastating power, occurring in more diverse places.
And while there are earthquakes in many places this year, AccuWeather has a report calling what happened in Oklahoma, Oklageddon:
OklageddonWhat a Year in the Sooner State!2011 has been the year of extremes for the state of Oklahoma, with residents experiencing a wide variety of over-the-top weather events. From extreme heat and historic drought to powerful, record-setting tornadoes and earthquakes, Oklahoma has seen it all this year.
Montana had a quake of local interest today:
Western MT earthquake felt hundreds of miles away
KPAX-TV – 11 November 2011MISSOULA- Friday morning’s magnitude 3.3 earthquake that struck western Montana sure has a lot of people talking.
Jesus, of course, warned about a time earthquakes and troubles:
8 … And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be…troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)
We may be at this prophetic point as all the earthquakes and other problems that have happened in the past year or so could be considered as “troubles.”
Perhaps the earthquake can serve as another wake-up call to people everywhere that the world can change very quickly and that the time to repent is now:
30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead. (Acts 17:30-31)
There are troubles and repentance is needed. Things are going to get much worse than this.
