UK only to pay 1/2 of EU surcharge; Most in Poland oppose adoption of the Euro

The European Union asked the UK to give over USD$2,000,000,000 in a ‘surcharge’ December 1, 2014, but now the amount has been reportedly been halved and the payment terms delayed:

The UK will only have to pay half of the £1.7bn budget surcharge demanded by the European Union, Chancellor George Osborne has said. …
Mr Osborne welcomed the agreement after a four-hour meeting of EU finance ministers in Brussels, in which he said it had also agreed that the UK would pay the additional sum in two interest-free instalments before September 2015.

“Instead of footing the bill, we have halved the bill and delayed the bill,” he said.

This will apparently be seen in the UK as a victory for its Prime Minister David Cameron. He stated that the UK would not make the payment on December 1, 2014 and he had disagreed on the amount. He wants the UK to stay in the European Union and knows full well that this request for additional funds will assist those who want the UK to leave the EU. It is not that the UK will remain an equal member of the European Union, but this reduction of the surcharge will be seen as a sign that the UK does have a say in what happens in Brussels.

Of course, it is not just the United Kingdom that has issues with the European Union.

Notice the following about Poland and the Euro:

WARSAW, POLAND—

Nearly 70 percent of Poles are against Poland dropping its currency, the zloty, and adopting the euro, according to a survey out Thursday by Polish polling company CBOS.

Only 24 percent were in favor of joining the euro, while 68 percent were against, CBOS said.

“Since February 2013 the percentage of supporters of Poland’s accession to the euro zone has fallen by 5 [percentage] points and is currently at one of the lowest levels in the history of our surveys,” the polling firm said in a statement.

Poland is preparing to join the Euro Zone, but has not yet decided when it would adopt the euro. Foreign Minister Grzegorz Schetyna told parliament on Thursday that setting a date for Poland to adopt the euro was “premature.”

The CBOS survey showed that 64 percent of Poles expect an increase in prices if Poland joins the Euro Zone, with 42 percent expecting unfavorable euro-zloty exchange rates.

In addition, 27 percent are worried about the country losing control over its monetary policy.

The survey was conducted in October on a representative sample of 919 Poles.

A Reuters poll of analysts in late October showed Poland would not adopt the euro this decade, and public opposition and a constitutional hurdle mean it may continue to use the zloty currency well into the 2020s. http://www.voanews.com/content/survey-says-nearly-seventy-percent-of-poles-oppose-adopting-euro/2510534.html

Because of distrust of Brussels, disunity amongst peoples in Europe, and the United Kingdom’s general attitude towards the European Union, many do not believe that Europe could rise up and be the predominant economic and military power during the time known as the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21).

However, the reality is that the United Kingdom itself will not remain part of the European Union. So, any issues related to its objections, should be minimized as irrelevant in the long-run.

As far as Europe having problems with unity, that was prophesied. Let’s look at the passages in Daniel:

41 Whereas you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter’s clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; yet the strength of the iron shall be in it, just as you saw the iron mixed with ceramic clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 As you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay. (Daniel 2:41-43)

Notice that the toes of the feet are composed of mixed peoples. Some are iron and some are clay in some of the same toes. This would tend to prove the view that the ten horns in Revelation 17:12 is a reference to an artificial government as opposed to only being inclusive of existing individual nations. It also clearly shows that there is a lack of true cohesive unity, yet it also shows that a kingdom like that will exist.

Just like the ancient Roman Empire was composed on many peoples, so will the one warned about as the Beast power of Revelation 13,17, & 18.

More and more, the continental Europeans are becoming displeased with the UK and its approach to European Union matters. This will not end well for the UK (cf. Jeremiah 30:7; Daniel 11:39).

Despite Poland’s hesitations, it is still expected to finally be fully integrated with Europe. This will not end well for Poland and the rest of Europe (cf. Jeremiah 50:41-44; Revelation 18-19).
