Ukrainian tanks closing in on east, while NATO suspects Russia will intervene

The Ukrainian government in Kiev is moving in on the east with its military:

KYIV—The Ukrainian military says troops are continuing to close in on remaining separatist regions in the east, and are warning civilians to evacuate the areas to avoid being caught in the crossfire. Meanwhile, Russia and Ukraine continue to be at odds over a possible humanitarian mission to bring supplies to besieged residents.Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko told reporters in Kyiv Monday “anti-terror” forces are attacking separatist strongholds from four directions, closing in on the main rebel-held city of Donetsk.
Lysenko warned civilians to leave the areas around Donetsk and neighboring Luhansk province – near the border with Russia – to avoid the coming assault.
“We are once again addressing civilians,” he said. “If you can, leave these areas temporarily because there will be liberating operations and attacks on terrorists.”
He added that the armed forces will do what they can to provide transportation for citizens wishing to flee. The United Nations says more than 100,000 people have been internally displaced from the two eastern regions in Ukraine since the conflict began in May. http://www.voanews.com/content/ukraine-close-to-retaking-rebel-held-donetsk/2409367.html

Meanwhile, NATO’s secretary general says the alliance has seen no sign of Russian forces pulling back from the border with Ukraine and that there is “a high probability” Moscow will intervene militarily in the eastern part of the country.”We see the Russians developing the narrative and the pretext for such an operation under the guise of a humanitarian operation and we see a military buildup that could be used to conduct such illegal military operations in Ukraine,” Anders Fogh Rasmussen told the Reuters news agency earlier Monday.“Any Russian intervention under the guise of a humanitarian mission would be unjustified and illegal,” Rasmussen said.
President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov, meanwhile, said Monday that Russia will send humanitarian aid into eastern Ukraine, “if we can agree all details with all the partners.” He said that if such an agreement is reached, the aid would be sent “immediately” because of the “tragic humanitarian situation” in the region.
On Saturday, Ukraine claimed it had thwarted an attempt by Russia to send troops into Ukraine under a supposed agreement with the Red Cross and the guise of peacekeepers, with the aim of provoking a large-scale military conflict. Moscow dismissed the allegation as a “fairy tale.”…
NATO intervention?
Asked if NATO would intervene militarily in Ukraine if Russian forces did invade, Rasmussen all but ruled out direct involvement but said there would be consequences for Moscow.
“We are not considering military operations. If the Russians were to intervene further in Ukraine, I have no doubt that the international community would respond determinedly, notably through broader, deeper, tougher economic sanctions that would isolate Russia further,” he said. http://www.voanews.com/content/nato-chief-sees-high-probability-russia-will-intervene-in-east-ukraine/2409701.html

“As of 11 o’clock today, about 45,000 troops of the armed forces and internal forces of the Russian Federation are concentrated in border areas,” Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko told a briefing.
He said they were supported by 160 tanks, 1,360 armoured vehicles, 390 artillery systems, up to 150 Grad missile launchers, 192 fighter aircraft and 137 attack helicopters. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/08/11/us-ukraine-crisis-idUSKBN0GA0C620140811
Ukraine sent tanks into the region last month (Ukrainian Tanks Sent to Rebel-Held Donetsk) and has used them. Russia would like to intervene against them.
Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the secretary general of NATO quoted earlier is a former Danish prime minister. Denmark is one of the 28 nations currently in the European Union.
Ukraine borders Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova. All but the first two and Moldova are currently in the European Union–and Moldova applied in 2013 (see Georgia and Moldova sign up to join European Union, Ukraine does not). On June 27, Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia signed trade and political deals with the European Union (see Ukraine, Moldova, and George sign deals with European Union; Russia not pleased).
The European Union has demonstrated a history and willingness to enlarge–and it is interested in Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia. This may also be consistent with biblical prophecy.
The Bible prophesied that a little horn would develop into what apparently is becoming a European entity. Actually what is now the EU began as a small organization involving three small countries located in the northern and western regions of Europe (Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, called the Benelux nations)–they then helped form the European Economic Community. Which expanded into the European Union.
Notice that, the Bible prophesied that a little horn would mainly expand South and East:
And out of one of them came a little horn which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the Glorious Land. And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled them. He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down. Because of transgression, an army was given over to the horn to oppose the daily sacrifices; and he cast truth down to the ground. He did all this and prospered (Daniel 8:9-12).
And while the above has had a past fulfillment, this prophecy seems to be dual (compare with Daniel 11:27-39). Anyway, the European Union has mainly expanded south and east of the Benelux nations. Now, approximately 500 million people are now under a new, single (though not completed united) government, called the European Union, headquartered in Brussels. Ukraine is mainly east of much of the EU–thus its geography is consistent with being part of the EU. And Moldova and Georgia are south and east, which is also consistent. While some claim that the EU must reduce down to ten or eleven nations to fulfill biblical prophecy, that is simply not the case (see Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?).
The European Union has demonstrated a history and willingness to enlarge–and it is interested in Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia. The USA keeps encouraging all of this, but this will not end well for the USA (cf. Daniel 11:39; Isaiah 10:5-11).
Not all in Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia want to be part of the European Union, some prefer to be in Russia’s upcoming Eurasian Union. Those that become disillusioned/disappointed by the EU may ultimately back out of it.
Biblically (because of prophecies involving the Medes, some of which are in Ukraine, and some in the “north and east” in Daniel 11:44), it would seem that Russia would be closer to at least parts of Ukraine (like some of the eastern portions of it) in the end than many realize.
