Reuters has cited Ukrainian regional lawmaker Serhiy Khlan to say the “final stage of reclaiming the west bank of the Dnipro River in the southern Kherson region” is underway, after Russian forces moved to the opposite side in a draw down from the city. The flag of the European Union was also seen raised alongside the Ukrainian flag over the city’s central administrative building, with photos widely circulating on social media.Gen. Kherson, itself, essentially borders Crimea, which is south of it.
So, despite Ukrainian celebrations, Russia may well move to reclaim it as it wants land ties to Crimea.

The Russian retreat represented a significant setback for the Kremlin some six weeks after Putin annexed the Kherson region and three others provinces in southern and eastern Ukraine in breach of international law and in the face of widespread condemnation. The Russian leader unequivocally asserted the illegally claimed areas as Russian territory.
Russian state news agency Tass quoted an official in Kherson’s Kremlin-appointed administration on Saturday as saying that Henichesk, a city on the Azov Sea some 200 kilometers southeast of Kherson city, would serve as the region’s “temporary capital” after the withdrawal across the Dnieper.

The announcement of the Kherson Retreat may have signaled one of the gloomiest days of the Russian Federation since 1991.
Leaving the right bank of the Dnieper to set up a defense line on the left bank may spell out total military sense. General Armageddon himself, since his first day on the job, had hinted this might have been inevitable. …
Kherson is a Russian city. Russians have lost – even if temporarily – the capital of a brand new territory attached to the Federation. Russian public opinion will have tremendous problems absorbing the news.
The list of negatives is considerable.
Kiev forces secure their flank and may free up forces to go against Donbass. Weaponizing by the collective West gets a major boost. HIMARS can now potentially strike targets in Crimea.
The optics are horrendous.
Russia’s image across the Global South is severely tarnished; after all, this move amounts to abandoning Russian territory – while serial Ukrainian war crimes instantly disappear from the major “narrative”.
At a minimum, the Russians a long time ago should have reinforced their major strategic advantage bridgehead on the west side of the Dnieper so that it could hold – short of a widely forecasted Kakhovka Dam flood. And yet the Russians also ignored the dam bombing threat for months. That spells out terrible planning.
Now Russian forces will have to conquer Kherson all over again. And in parallel stabilize the frontlines; draw definitive borders; and then strive to “demilitarize” Ukrainian offensives for good, either via negotiation or carpet bombing.
It’s quite revealing that an array of NATO intel types, from analysts to retired Generals, are suspicious of General Armageddon’s move: they see it as an elaborate trap, or as a French military analyst put it, “a massive deception operation”. Classic Sun Tzu. That has been duly incorporated as the official Ukrainian narrative.
So, to quote Twin Peaks, that American pop culture subversive classic, “the owls are not what they seem”. If that’s the case, General Armageddon would be looking to severely overstretch Ukrainian supply lines; seduce them into exposure; and then engage in a massive turkey shoot. …
Meanwhile Russia is accumulating more and more gains in the battle for Bakhmut.
There are no illusions whatsoever in Moscow that this crypto-Minsk 3 would be respected by the “non-agreement capable” Empire.

So why are the Americans desperate to offer a deal? Because they may be sensing the next Russian move with the arrival of General Winter should be capable of conclusively winning the war on Moscow’s terms. That would include slamming the Polish border shut via a long arrow move from Belarus downwards. With weaponizing supply lines cut, Kiev’s fate is sealed.

Note that ‘General Armageddon’ is Russian General Sergei Surovikin and ‘General Winter’ refers to the fact that winter is getting closer and many believe this will aid Russia.
Russia has already declared Kherson as its territory, so unless it negotiates it away, expect Russia to move to reclaim it.
That said, one of the reasons for this post is to point out that a European Union flag was also raised up.
Back in 2013, the government of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych had decided to suspend the Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement and seek closer economic ties with Russia. This, along with apparent backing from the USA, led to a split in Ukraine, as many in the Western portion wanted to become part of the European Union.
There began a several-months-long wave of demonstrations and protests known as the Euromaidan, which later escalated into the Revolution of Dignity that led to the overthrow of the democratically-elected President Yanukovych and the establishment of a new government. The new government took steps like no longer considering Russian an official language, even though that was the predominant language in eastern Ukraine.
This led to major issues in the east in regions such as Donbass and Crimea which supported stronger ties with Russia.
In 2014, Russia sent troops to Crimea where it had a naval base. Later the electorate there voted to become part of Russia, and Russia accepted Crimea. The West has been upset about that for some time and denies the validity of the Crimean election.
Then, in 2018 the Ukrainian Orthodox petitioned the Patriarch of Constantinople to be separate from and no longer under the authority of the Russian Orthodox Church. That was granted in 2019. This also has caused a split in Ukraine and solidified support for Russia by some in Ukraine’s east and increased anti-Russian and pro-EU support by many in Ukraine’s west.
From around 2014 to 2022, fighting between east and west Ukraine was occurring–with many in the east asking Russia for assistance.
In 2021 and early 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned the USA (and others) that Russia would not tolerate Ukrainian membership in NATO–the USA basically told Russia it would not consider its request. Then Russia sent troops into Ukraine.
Prior to Russia moving troops in this year, I warned that “there may be some type of split involving Ukraine.”
Back in 2013 I said I believed at least some of the Ukrainian territory would be under Russian control, and that happened with Crimea in 2014.

The situation between Russia and Ukraine has again heated up, although it has been tense since the Euromaiden protests and Russia’s annexation of Crimea. That said, it may well be that part of Ukraine will become more integrated with the European Union and one day support the coming European Beast (Revelation 13:1-10).
But that will ultimately end in disaster for supporters of the Beast (Revelation 14:9-11).
