UN fears mass killings in Iraq as insurgency makes gains; Iran gets involved and the USA might send drones
Iraqi Insurgents (Menendj)
Iraq has become more violent and mass executions are possible:

A top United Nations official warned today that the Islamic army that has taken over several Iraqi cities – and is known for beheading who it considers “unbelievers” – may have begun a massacre in the territory it now holds.
The Islamic militant force known as ISIS has rapidly overwhelmed the cities of Mosul, Tikrit, Baji and the towns through much of northern Iraq…
U.N. Human Rights spokesman Rupert Colville said the agency has received reports that the militants carried out summary executions of civilians and Iraqi soldiers in Mosul. He cited a report of 17 civilians killed in just one street on Wednesday.
“The full extent of civilian casualties is not yet known, but reports received by … the UN Mission in Iraq suggest that the number of people killed may run into the hundreds and the number of wounded is said to be approaching one thousand,” Colville said.
Navi Pillay, the top United Nations human rights official, said today that she was “extremely alarmed” by reports of “summary executions and extrajudicial killings” in Mosul. http://abcnews.go.com/International/wave-iraqi-executions-feared-isis-takeover/story?id=24121850

Islamic militants are seizing more territory in Iraq as the U.S. weighs its response to the rebel advance.
Officials say militants captured the towns of Jalawla and Saadiyah in the ethnically divided eastern province of Diyala late Thursday.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, has already captured most of northern Iraq and is advancing toward the capital…
U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, say the options being considered include possible drone strikes…
In lightning-quick strikes, ISIL fighters this week took control of Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, and advanced within 90 kilometers of Baghdad.
A spokesman for the rebels, who are seeking to install an Islamic government, vowed they would push into Baghdad and on to Karbala, a city southwest of Baghdad that is one of the holiest sites for Shi’ite Muslims.
Meanwhile, Peshmerga fighters, the security forces of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish north, took control of an airbase and other posts abandoned by government troops in oil-rich Kirkuk.
Iraqi forces have seemingly been powerless to stop the onslaught, often abandoning their outposts and fleeing, leaving their weapons behind. http://www.voanews.com/content/islamic-insurgents-advance-in-iraq-as-us-weighs-response/1936055.html
The USA is hoping to stop a total takeover by what are being called Islamic Militants, but, as I have written for years, Iraq may break up into perhaps three regions. A Kurdish region, a Sunni region, and a Shi’ite region. Notice also the following:

Kurdish Peshmerga Say They are Ready if Islamists Bring Fight to Kirkuk
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Security officials in Kirkuk say they have taken all measures in the multiethnic city and its surrounding areas to protect the province from any attacks by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Speaking to Rudaw, Brigadier Sarhad Qadir, chief of Kirkuk’s suburban police force, said it is unlikely for the war currently raging in Iraq’s Sunni areas to reach Kirkuk.
“We had had previous intelligence that the armed groups were active around Tikrit, so we had already taken measures against anything untoward coming this way,” Qadir said. http://rudaw.net/english/kurdistan/130620143
So, the Kurds think that the insurgents probably will not now try to attack them. The Kurds may feel, and they have felt this way before, that they will finally become independent of Iraq.
Notice what CNN says may form:
ISIS: The first terror group to build an Islamic state?
The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria has thrived and mutated during the ongoing civil war in Syria and in the security vacuum that followed the departure of the last American forces from Iraq.
The aim of ISIS is to create an Islamic state across Sunni areas of Iraq and in Syria…
What are its origins?
In 2006, al Qaeda in Iraq — under the ruthless leadership of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi — embarked on seemingly arbitrary and brutal treatment of civilians as it tried to ignite a sectarian war against the majority Shia community…
The new al Qaeda was rebranded in 2006 as the Islamic State in Iraq (ISI). It would add “and Syria” to its name later…
What is ISIS trying to accomplish?
It wants to establish an Islamic caliphate, or state, stretching across the region. http://www.cnn.com/2014/06/12/world/meast/who-is-the-isis/
An Islamic caliphate is consistent with prophecies in the Bible of a coming King of the South in Daniel 11:40-43.
Iran is not pleased with the situation in Iraq as it opposes a Sunni-confederation and wants Shi’ites to rule in Iraq. Notice the following:
Iran Deploys Forces to Fight al Qaeda-Inspired Militants in Iraq
Revolutionary Guard Forces Help Iraqi Troops Win Back Control of Most of Tikrit, Sources Say
BEIRUT—The threat of Sunni extremists eclipsing the power of its Shiite-dominated Arab ally presents Iran with the biggest security and strategic challenge it has faced since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
With the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, an offshoot of al Qaeda, rapidly gaining territory, Iran deployed Revolutionary Guards units to Iraq, according to Iranian security officials. http://online.wsj.com/articles/iran-deploys-forces-to-fight-al-qaeda-inspired-militants-in-iraq-iranian-security-sources-1402592470
If the USA does send in military support, the USA and Iran will be basically fighting for the same side.
Iraq will ultimately not be a secular independent nation that supports the USA, despite what the government of the USA publicly hopes for.
The final King of the South, which will not be led by Iran, will form.
