White House Economic Advisor Kevin Hassett offered a surprisingly harsh take on the economic outlook, differing markedly in tone from other senior economic advisors like Larry Kudlow. He told a gathering of reporters that he expects Q2 GDP to be the “biggest negative number since the Great Depression,” adding that it could print a contraction between 20% and 30%. …

New Zealand will become the first developed country to end the lockdown entirely now that the virus has been effectively eradicated from the tiny island nation, according to its health officials. NZ’s lockdown will end at midnight local time. In neighboring Australia, officials in Sydney recently opted to seal off three recently reopened beaches due to local noncompliance. And while Australia’s reopening process is set to be much more gradual than New Zealand’s, several states plan to start the process this week, according to Australia’s Nine Network. To be sure, many social distancing restrictions will remain in effect in New Zealand, even as 400,000 people return to work. Kiwis will be allowed to go fishing, surfing, hunting and hiking this week for the first time in more than a month as the country’s alert level shifts down a notch at midnight. I have long believed that the impacts of government policies in the USA related to COVID-19 would be more serious than many have claimed. Perhaps Kevin Hassett is starting to see that.

“Whether care workers, security forces, supermarket employees or many others — whoever works hard should in future have more in their pocket. That is a question of social justice but also in times like these it is also necessary to stimulate domestic consumption,” Kurz said in a televised address on the 75th anniversary of Austria’s Second Republic. …

Restrictions implemented to curb the spread of coronavirus could spark a “human rights disaster,” as some countries use the measures for more nefarious purposes, warned United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet.

Bachelet called on countries to refrain from violating fundamental rights “under the guise of exceptional or emergency measures.” …

Several European countries are taking their first steps to ease coronavirus-related restrictions. While Spain allowed children to go outside for the first time in six weeks on Sunday, Germany allowed small shops to reopen last week, and Italy announced that some businesses could reopen next month.

However, some of the steps to loosen restrictions across Europe have been met with criticism that states are taking too long to ease measures. In Italy, the Catholic Church complained that the hard-hit country’s exit plan still included a ban on religious services, while parents slammed plans to keep schools shut until September.

The German bank said it expects to report net income of 66 million euros ($71.56 million) for the first quarter of 2020, compared with 201 million euros in the first quarter of 2019.

The bank also set aside 500 million euros in provisions for credit losses.

Going forward, Deutsche Bank said it might present a lower CET1 ratio, below its target of 12.5%,

Deutsche Bank said it expects to report a fall in net income in the first quarter from a year ago, and will set aside a significant amount for potential loan losses when it reports full earnings Wednesday.

It also warned that it could miss its capital target in the future, as a result of Covid-19. …

“The short-term implications of the COVID-19 pandemic make it difficult for the bank to accurately reflect the timing and the magnitude of changes to its original capital plan,” it said. However it added that it “remains committed to maintaining a significant buffer above its regulatory requirements at all times.”

But banks have to deal with one another and as transportation has increased and some people live in different parts of the nation or the world they transfer money …

The whole banking structure in the United States is a network all joined together, but not only that, one nation has to deal with other nations in imports and exports. And so they have to have a means of transferring money from one nation to another. And so the banking structure is international and interwoven. Things started out with the first man Adam rather simply. God’s things are usually simple. Man wants to make everything complex, intricate, and in such detail that the human mind can hardly keep up with it. And so the banking system has become very complex. And one nation is pretty much tied to other nations in its banking or monetary system. …

Now when the financial structure breaks down, all civilization is going to break down.

I just wanted to say that much maybe you can begin to see how serious this thing can become!

So, an economic or banking crisis is what Herbert W. Armstrong concluded would drive Europe to unite.

While not the only factors, items like Brexit, disdain for Donald Trump, and US trade issues may also help push Europe into an economic crisis.

The biblical reality is that Europe will NOT stay as it is.

Whether or not it is even called the European Union in the future is not specified in scripture.

But, what is, is that Europe will reorganize and power will be handed over to a totalitarian leader the Bible calls the Beast:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

This reorganization will change Europe!

The EU will NOT function as it has.

COVID-19 has wounded the economies of most nations around the world.

The USA has increased debt because of it, and that is not good (cf. Habakkuk 2:6=8).

Europe will eventually reorganize and what it will end up with will not be good.

But the good news is that ultimately, Jesus will return and establish the Kingdom of God.
