VOA: German Health Minister Says Coronavirus Now ‘Manageable’

The Voice of America (VOA) reported the following:

German Health Minister Says Coronavirus Now ‘Manageable’

April 17, 2020

Germany’s health minister said Friday the COVID-19 outbreak in that country has become manageable, because the number of patients who have recovered from the virus is greater than the number that are newly infected.

Speaking at a news briefing in Berlin Friday, Health Minister Jens Spahn said compared to other nations, Germany is doing well. He said that fact makes them humble, not exuberant.

The comments follow an announcement this week by Chancellor Angela Merkel, who said initial steps would be taken to ease restrictions by allowing some shops to open as early as next week. But both she and Spahn said the restrictions should be lifted only gradually.

Spahn says Germany has carried out more than 1.7 million coronavirus tests, and he and other health experts credit that for their ability to manage the outbreak.

The German health ministry website reports, as of Friday, the country has seen a total of 133,830 cases of the virus with 3,868 deaths. https://www.voanews.com/covid-19-pandemic/german-health-minister-says-coronavirus-now-manageable

Deutsche Welle reported “Germany is slowly rolling back its COVID-19 restrictions,” though it is expecting travel restrictions to stay in place for a while (https://www.dw.com/en/coronavirus-in-germany-no-end-in-sight-for-travel-restrictions/a-53161907 04/17/20).

As Sweden and a few other nations demonstrated by NOT putting in draconian lockdowns, COVID-19 was always manageable.

That being said, Germany is the economic engine of Europe.

BERLIN/WASHINGTON/BEIJING (Own report) – The corona crisis could accelerate Germany and the western powers’ economic and political decline, according to recent economic projections by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and analyses by US foreign policy experts. …

Germany is facing a 7.0 percent decline in its GDP. The IMF emphasizes that its predictions only apply if the Covid-19 pandemic peaks within this quarter and can subsequently be contained. https://www.german-foreign-policy.com/en/news/detail/8247/

Germany will have ups and downs with its economy. But it is looking to reopen it:

The world’s biggest carmakers will gradually reopen plants in Europe starting next week, but with a focus on health and safety rather than production volume, as lockdown measures are eased in one of the regions hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.

Volkswagen (VLKAF) said in a statement Wednesday that production of its passenger car brands will resume at plants in Zwickau, Germany and Bratislava, Slovakia starting the week of April 20, after a month-long shutdown. Other plants in Germany, Portugal, Spain, Russia and the United States will restart production the following week, with South Africa, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico expected to follow in May, the company said. “With the decisions by the federal and state governments in Germany and the loosening of restrictions in other European states, conditions have been established for the gradual resumption of production,” Ralf Brandstätter, chief operating officer of the Volkswagen brand, said in a statement. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/16/business/volkswagen-restarting-production/index.html

So, Germany and parts of Europe are looking to resume factory production.

The reality is that Germany clearly has been the main economic engine of Europe in the 21st century. I have also seen some earlier reports that Germany is expected to have even more economic influence because of COVID-19 than it had prior to the outbreak.

Since Europe is prophesied to dominate, for a time, world trade in the relatively near future (cf. Revelation 18), Germany will end up being economically strong for a time.

Its plans to manage and lift coronovirus restrictions and get its economy going again is consistent with its own national goals and plans–and will align with numerous biblical prophecies.
