We are seeing many reports related to food shortages, food insecurity and food price inflation.
Jesus said:
6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:6-8)
Famines and food price inflation are consistent with Jesus’ words.
Notice that the ride of third horseman of the Apocalypse results in scarcity, inflation, and famine. Revelation 6:5-6 indicates that there will be food, but that it will be quite expensive (food-price inflation).
5 When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see.” So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.” (Revelation 6:5-6)
Some will thus die as they will not be able to afford it, while others will survive but struggle.

The flooding of farmland has added to concerns about the potential impacts on food security in the world’s second largest economy, as extreme weather events linked to climate change pose rising threats to China’s agricultural and food supplies.
Known as China’s granary, the three northeasternmost provinces – Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning – produce more than one fifth of the country’s grain output, thanks to the region’s fertile black earth. Rice prices have seen a sharp surge in recent months as major producers curtail their trade and supplies. This could impact millions of consumers around the world, with Asian and African countries expected to bear the brunt.
Thailand, the world’s second-largest rice exporter, is urging its farmers to reduce rice cultivation as part of an effort to conserve water.
“The cumulative rainfall is approximately 40% below normal levels, posing a high risk of water shortage,” said Surasri Kidtimonton, secretary-general of the ONWR, in a statement released by Thailand’s National Water Administration on July 31. Kidtimonton encouraged farmers to consider planting crops that require less water and have faster harvesting cycles.
The world’s top exporter of rice, India, imposed an export ban on non-Basmati white rice last month, with the government saying its aim was to help lower rice prices at home and secure domestic availability.
Rice market faces uncertainty
The United Arab Emirates, a major importer and re-exporter of Indian rice, followed suit, restricting sales of its rice supplies to other countries. …
The recent developments come as the global food markets are grappling with the repercussions of Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea grain deal, which terminated an agreement allowing safe export of Ukrainian grain via the Black Sea amid Moscow’s invasion of its neighbor. Russia has also ramped up its military attacks on Ukraine’s port and grain facilities.

If our young people are going to riot over a few video game consoles, how are they going to behave when economic conditions in this country become extremely harsh? And what in the world is going to happen when they are extremely hungry and there isn’t enough food to go around someday? …
The UN is telling us that 2.4 billion people already do not have enough food to eat.
But those of us that are fortunate enough to live in the western world simply do not understand how bad things have become on the other side of the planet.
Supplies of food are getting tighter and tighter, but our countries have the resources to buy up enough supplies to feed our populations.
So for now, we are seeing much higher prices, but we are not facing imminent shortages like they are in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and elsewhere. …
Today, organized looting is completely out of control. …
Are they going to have to put armed guards on every truck and in every warehouse?
And how long will it be before we see armed guards on every food truck and in every food warehouse? …

How bad might it get for the USA, Canada, and the UK? The old Worldwide Church of God published the following:
The black horseman’s future ride will reduce the proud faces of white America, Europe, and the British Common wealth into the blackened skin of starvation such as now afflicts the vast majority of mankind. Expect more food inflation. And yes, there will be famines as well.
Yes, it is also wise to take physical steps:
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard!
Consider her ways and be wise,
7 Which, having no captain,
Overseer or ruler,
8 Provides her supplies in the summer,
And gathers her food in the harvest.
9 How long will you slumber, O sluggard?
When will you rise from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to sleep —
11 So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler,
And your need like an armed man. (Proverbs 6:6-11).
All who can afford it should, just for emergencies, have a week or two worth of food and water in case of emergencies and supply cutoffs. God’s statement about ants is intended to tell us to take proper physical steps.
But, do not deceive yourself that if you have several years supply of food, you will thrive while others starve.
Starving people will look for anything to eat–many will be willing to violently take food. Many, also, will be willing to actually eat other people as well.

We are getting to the end of the 6,000 years that God has allowed humans to rule themselves, which will soon be followed by the 1,000-year reign of Christ. Pray for Jesus to return and God’s Kingdom to come (Matthew 6:10).
