Wen-Ti Sung, a political scientist at the Australian National University who works in Taiwan, said … “In a sense, it is perhaps inevitable that Australia will be the actor who’s out in front in terms of taking a tough decision towards China,” said Sung. “That may be the price to pay in terms of consolidating our relationship with the US in terms of strengthening the overall international collective bargaining front in China. When you do that, you will incur a lot of short-term pain.” …
The US now has Australian military backing for a war it does not want.
The US would expect support from Canberra after its AUKUS nuclear submarine deal. …

AUKUS stands for Australia, United Kingdom, and the United States–it is a military alliance, with an agreement to allow Australia to purchase nuclear submarines from the USA.
Australia has concerns about China, and China is not pleased with Australia’s military ties to the USA. Here is something posted at ZeroHedge late last night:

China’s acting ambassador to Australia, Wang Xining, said by seeking nuclear submarines under the AUKUS military pact, Australia will turn to “saber wielding” rather than being a “peace defender.”
In an interview with The Guardian published Thursday, Wang said he used to view Australia as a peace-loving nation, but now that it is seeking nuclear-powered submarines designed for long-range attacks, that view has changed. “So who are you going to attack? You are no longer a peace lover, a peace defender, you become a saber wielder in certain form,” he said.
Under the AUKUS deal, a three-way pact between the UK, the US, and Australia, Canberra would not get the nuclear submarines until at least the late 2030s. But the pact is a sign that Australia is following the US and other Western powers in the campaign against China, and Australian officials have stepped up their rhetoric. …
Last week, Australian Defense Minister Peter Dutton signaled Australia was willing to follow the US in a war against China over Taiwan. Responding to Dutton, Wang said Australian officials should not do “anything that would lead to an even more gloomy state of our relationship.”
China has made various threats against Australia, including the following from this past Spring:

Following now completed joint war games held by the US, Japan, France and Australia in the East China Sea off the southwest coast of Japan earlier this month, China has lashed out particularly at its large regional neighbor Australia, calling its military “weak” and “insignificant” at a moment the two are locked in a severe trade and diplomatic tit-for-tat dispute.
Beijing voiced specific threats and warnings via its state-run English language mouthpiece Global Times, which recently wrote, “Australia’s military is too weak to be a worthy opponent of China, and if it dares to interfere in a military conflict for example in the Taiwan Straits, its forces will be among the first to be hit.”

China may well go after Australia first, once the USA is attacked by the European King of the North (cf. Daniel 11:39).
Militarily, the Aussies concluded decades ago that they would want to rely on the USA for defense.
It is in agreement with the USA on various matters related to China (e.g. ‘Five Eyes: Is the alliance in trouble over China?’ as New Zealand does not endorse condemnation of China over Uyghur treatment and USA and Australia have concerns over China’s ‘Belt and Road Initiative,’ but the new ‘Silk Road’ has prophetic ramifications).
Australia will likely find out that China will take it over (watch Are Chinese threats against Australia for real?).
Australia hopes to defend itself, but must realize that China is too powerful.
While carnally speaking, reliance on the military of the USA would seem to make sense, Bible prophecy shows that will not succeed not too many years from now. The prophetic reality is that the US military will NOT be able to protect Australia and other parts of the world in the future.
As regular readers of this page are aware, since 2009 (in my book 2012 and the Rise of the Secret Sect), I wrote that China may take over Australia, and possibly New Zealand. Since I wrote that, my belief in that outcome has increased.
Alliances like AUKUS will NOT be able to protect Australia against powers like China.
On June 24, 2010, the day it was announced that she became Prime Minister of Australia, I warned that I felt that Julia Gillard would take steps to fulfill prophecies that also could get the Chinese interested in taking over Australia (see Australia Now Has a Female Prime Minister: Prophetic Ramifications?).
And that happened.

The Chinese paper ‘Global Times’ has carried threats in 2011 and 2016 suggesting the China would militarily intervene against Australia. It has declared that Australia is a ‘paper cat,’ that China will get revenge against it, and that Australia would be no more. Is this possible? AUKUS sparking European military
In September 2021, US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced a new military partnership called AUKUS. This announcement upset the French and the European Union, which is not part of it. Could AUKUS be another spark for the Europeans to develop their own joint military? What have European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and former German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel called for? Could having the Europeans increase their military capacity and technology and be dangerous? Is the European King of the North, also called the King of Assyria, prophesied to destroy the USA (Daniel 11:39) and its British-descended allies? What could stop that? Is national or personal repentance possible? Do the nations need Jesus or military alliances?

Recent geopolitical crises … has cemented thinking that the EU cannot rely entirely on the United States or NATO for its protection. Coincidentally, the initial blueprint for such a plan was presented to EU member states this week. The “Strategic Compass for Security and Defence” is a loose outline of how cooperation across the bloc might work. The document was leaked to CNN in full. The main proposal is that the EU obtains the capacity to rapidly deploy up to 5,000 troops to deal with numerous potential crises. …The document also talks about the need for a joined-up approach in defense procurement, research and intelligence, making the bloc more competitive and efficient. It acknowledges that to do this, national and EU spending would have to increase and focus on filling in the gaps that currently exist across the EU as a whole. …While Euroskeptic derision at the idea of an “EU Army” means this latest proposal is a far cry from the 1999 goal of up to 60,000 troops ready to deploy at any given moment, it’s still ambitious and, unusually for a top down, multilateral EU proposal, is broadly supported by all 27 member states. …The keenest country is without question France. President Emmanuel Macron has made no secret of his dream for a stronger Europe with greater integration on foreign affairs. He has even called for a “real European army” to reduce Europe’s need for US-led NATO protection. The current aim is that the Strategic Compass gets agreed in March, while France holds the EU’s rotating presidency. … Rasa Juknevičienė, a member of the European Parliament and Lithuania’s former defense minister, says that “only the EU is able to solve” the hybrid threats it faces from hostile actors in Russia and China. …Former Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb believes that Brussels’ renewed enthusiasm for security is “timely, important and realistic. The US is not going to back up European security forever.” He says that if Europe is to get serious about protecting itself “it needs to understand that the line between war and peace is blurred … soft power has been weaponized and become hard power. We see that with asylum-seekers being used as weapons. Reconsider some of what former Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb publicly stated. One ramification of it is that Europe needs a functional military independent of the USA. Another one is that he seems to be alluding to the USA being at war already with the Europeans through the USA’s weaponized use of information, trade, and other aspects of its “soft power.”
As far as biblical prophecies go, we can be assured that the coming European Beast power will have “a great army” (Daniel 11:25) with “many ships” (Daniel 11:40).
This will not end well for the USA (Daniel 11:39, see also USA in Prophecy: The Strongest Fortresses).
China is trying to rise up and spread its influence. It is not pleased with interference from the USA or Australia.
Europe is not pleased with interference from the USA, AUKUS, and Brexit (the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union).
The current world order dominated by the USA, and formerly by the British Empire is being changed. The Bible shows that the time of Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7) is getting nearer–and that will greatly affect the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand which have descendants from Jacob, also known as Israel.
Australia, the UK, the USA and others need national repentance to delay what is coming.
While that is not likely, individual repentance can be an option for all who are truly willing–irrespective of where they reside.
