Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is trying to keep up the pressure on Germany and Europe, urging all European officials to cease trade with Russia including oil and gas imports, declaring in his latest address “No euros for the occupiers.”
“Please do not sponsor the weapons of war of this country, of Russia. No euros for the occupiers. Close all of your ports to them. Don’t export them your goods. Deny energy resources. Push for Russia to leave Ukraine,” he said as Germany has so far refused to cease its oil imports from Russia.
He addressed Berlin specifically in remarks, saying, “You have the strength. Europe has the strength.” He issued the appeal just ahead of EU foreign ministers meeting Monday to mull a possible tightening of sanctions, and also ahead of Joe Biden hosting a call with the leaders of France, Germany, Italy and UK, according to Reuters.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov issued a direct warning against a European oil embargo immediately after Zelensky’s appeal, saying it would hit “everyone” – but will impact Europe the hardest.
Peskov told reporters:
Such an embargo would have very serious consequences for the world energy market. It will have a very serious negative impact on Europe’s energy balance.
He stressed in the statement that it “is a decision that will hit everyone.” Coming after the US earlier this month announced its own ban on all Russian oil and gas, and with Britain vowing to cut Russian oil by end of the year, Peskov stressed such a move by Europe will be “tough” for its population.
The Kremlin official acknowledged that while such a move won’t be as impactful for Americans, who “will feel much better than the Europeans” it remains that “It will be tough for the Europeans.”
Oil embargoes are tough for the whole world as they can lead to inflation, food shortages (oil is used to make fertilizers), recession, and possibly economic depression.
Germans realize that they still need Russian oil.

No success in the short term

Habeck was able to announce the conclusion of a long-term “energy partnership” between Germany and the Emirate of Qatar, for which German companies are now to enter into contract negotiations; it’s not just about business in the natural gas industry, but also about orders in the field of renewable energies. …

If it remains unclear where Berlin wants to get enough liquid gas from to replace the natural gas from Russia, this also applies to the EU. …
Take or pay clauses
Even if, contrary to expectations, the EU managed to increase both its natural gas imports and its energy-saving measures as planned, three problems would remain unresolved. On the one hand, Brussels has stipulated that the large natural gas storage facilities in the EU must be 90 percent full by October 1st in order to ensure supplies in winter. According to calculations by the OIES, this would require raising another 20 to 25 billion cubic meters of natural gas.[11] It is completely unclear where they will come from if Russian gas is out of the question. Secondly, the OIES assumes for 2023 and 2024 that competition on the global natural gas market will intensify significantly because gas consumption outside Europe, especially in East Asia, will increase significantly. So, at least according to the above source, Germany and other parts of the European Union need to continue to import oil and natural gas from Russia.
The Russians clearly want to cooperate with the Europeans. Many in Europe see the need to continue to buy from Russia–in the future they will find other ways to cooperate with Russia.

Yes, I, too, expect that Russia will make a deal with the Europeans that will lead to the end of the USA and its British-descended allies.
That being said, fear is a powerful motivator.
The bombing of cities in Ukraine has put a lot of fear into Europeans.
In the future, fear will be a factor in a future reorganization that will come to Europe:
12 The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)
While we are NOT to the point of the prophesied European reorganization yet, notice something else from Revelation 13:
3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:3-4)
So, we see that a power presumed dead, Europe, will rise up and be so successful militarily that the world will marvel.
But to do this, Europe needs energy as well as military power.
Russia has both.
While many Europeans want to distance themselves from Russia, do not expect a complete and lasting break.
