Germany is the latest European country gripped by a wave of turbulent farmers’ protests. In a week of action throughout the nation set to last until Friday, the agricultural sector is pushing back against proposed cuts to subsidies for fuel used in farming.

Convoys consisting of thousands of tractors and trucks have unleashed travel chaos and cut off several cities in recent days. Production at a Volkswagen facility in the northern city of Emden even ground to a halt. Last week, Economy Minister Robert Habeck was blockaded by angry protesters as he tried to disembark from a ferry during a family holiday.

Protest movement ripples across EU borders

Similar demonstrations, marked in some instances by violence and pointed encroachment into politicians’ private sphere, have at times caused huge shutdowns in the Netherlands in the last few years.

Taking aim at planned measures to grapple with chronic nitrogen pollution, the protest movement there even spawned a new political party in 2019, the agrarian-populist Farmer Citizen Movement (BBB).

In Belgium, Spain and France, farmers have also taken to the streets to voice their discontent about the effects of planned environmental reforms and high costs. Poland and other eastern European states have seen a similar ripple, though these related largely to the import of cheap Ukrainian grain into the EU. …

While it’s easy to lump the protests together, they have been mainly triggered by specific national situations. The German protests relate to diesel subsidies, Spanish farmers recently took aim at water-saving measures and French demonstrators’ concerns included irrigation and fuel expenses, as well as EU trade policy.

Nonetheless, with fertilizer and fuel prices having soared in Europe after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, farmers have said they are feeling the squeeze across Europe despite much higher food prices on supermarket shelves. …

For the German government, there is also concern the protests are being hijacked by the far right, as Interior Minister Nancy Faeser made clear this week. Economy Minister Habeck sounded the alarm about “coup fantasies” circulating online in connection with the protests, as well as the display of nationalist symbols.

Citizens of multiple countries, in both hemispheres, are not only voting for populist candidates but are also working outside their entrenched political establishments to either enact desired changes or oppose undesired ones.

The latter has been in focus this week as German farmers travelled to Berlin and other cities to blockade the roads in protest at the removal of certain subsidies considered noncompliant with official climate policies. Although not well reported in the British media, in the continental media, the protests made the front page.

Farm subsidies have existed all across Europe ever since the EU was founded. Affordable and available basic food was considered – and still is – a matter of national security. And since European farmers are not always as competitive as those elsewhere, subsidies were deemed required to keep them in business.

No longer. Apparently, climate goals now trump food security and affordability. And so the subsidies are to be ended, rendering farmers less competitive and possibly forcing some into bankruptcy.

As has been true throughout modern European history, the progressive Dutch were among the first to revolt against what they perceived as oppressive rules handed down from above. Farmers blockaded multiple cities and motorways in response to proposed nitrogen (fertiliser) quotas. More recently, the Dutch gave the largest portion of seats in the Tweede Kamer – their equivalent of the House of Commons – to the populist party of Geert Wilders.

Now farmers in Germany, the EU’s largest, wealthiest country, and largest net contributor to the EU budget, have joined the fray. They, in turn, have been joined by farmers in neighbouring Poland, Hungary and Austria. HGV drivers, many of whom supply farms with fertilisers and other essentials and in turn deliver produce from farm to table.

The comment that, “The EU may not survive in its current form” is an understatement.

According to Bible prophecy, Europe will reorganize:

As it turns out, Greco-Roman Catholics also have private prophecies that tell of a time of civil war in Europe–and while farmers may be part of that, they also show them pushing out Islam. Notice that the first one considers civil war is a major sign of end time events and the second one mentions Germany:

John of the Cleft Rock (1340): The White Eagle (Great Monarch), by order of the Archangel Michael, will drive crescent from Europe where none but Christians will remain–he himself will rule from Constantinople. An era of peace and prosperity will begin for the world. There will no longer be Protestants {there were no “Protestants” then and author Connor of that book suggests that perhaps this word should have been translated as heretics} or schismatics…God will raise up a holy Pope (Connor, pp. 33-34)

The reference to “the crescent” is pointing to eliminating Islam from Europe.

The Bible shows that the European beast leader, also called the King of the North, will arise promising peace.

21 And in his place shall arise a vile person, to whom they will not give the honor of royalty; but he shall come in peaceably, and seize the kingdom by intrigue. 22 With the force of a flood they shall be swept away from before him and be broken, and also the prince of the covenant. 23 And after the league is made with him he shall act deceitfully, for he shall come up and become strong with a small number of people. (Daniel 11:21-23, NKJV)

25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. (Daniel 8:25, KJV).

But he will, as alluded to in Daniel 8:25 and as stated in Revelation 13:3-4, be a man of war.

He is the Beast that the ten kings of Revelation 17:12-13 will give their power to.

He will arise promising peace and prosperity, but will end up leading a powerful Babylonian, European military (cf. Revelation 13:3-4; Daniel 11:39-43).

We are in the time before the Great Tribulation (Matthew 24:21-22) that Jesus referred to as “the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:4-8). Jesus said to expect “troubles” during that time in Mark 13:8.

The various protests we are seeing in Europe can be considered part of those troubles.
