To me, since I began piecing together my understanding of macroeconomics and the global economy about a decade ago, it had become painfully obvious that the fiat system the U.S. plays by, which hinges on the dollar being the global reserve currency, had its days numbered.

The catalyst that is helping hurl us toward our monetary rude awakening faster than ever has been the war in Ukraine. Actually, it hasn’t been the war so much as it has been the West’s reaction to the war. As only blindly arrogant believers in the Keynesian dog-and-pony show could do, we rushed to cut Russia off the SWIFT system, limited investing in Russia companies and sanctioned the country’s oligarchs.

To which Russia basically replied, “OK. We still have the oil.”

And that has been the attitude the Kremlin has adopted, for the most part. They are falling back on their country’s productive capacity when it comes to oil, continuing to do business with the Chinese, and are adding to their gold reserves. After small shocks lower in Russian markets and in the ruble, things have stabilized relatively quickly – except now, Russia has used the opportunity to make clear that they do not want to be participants in the global fiat system any longer.

And it looks like China (and likely India) feel similarly situated.

Just this weekend, the Kremlin said that sanctions against Russia would “accelerate the erosion of confidence in the dollar and Euro”. Russian propaganda or not, I think they’re right.

Russia, China and the rest of the world – having seen billions in FX reserves essentially seized without due process globally – now understand they must get off the same monetary system as the rest of the world. …

With the economic sanctions that the West has tried to implement against Russia, these nations finally have an impetus to stand their ground and fight back monetarily. And that seems to be the attitude of both Russia and China right now: let’s allow the currency to crash and fall back on our resources and productive capacity, because we’re so confident that when the dust settles, in the long term, we’ll be in a better monetary state than the West. https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/we-have-reached-end-monetary-policy-we-all-once-knew-it

Changing the monetary system as we have known it will hurt the USA economically. The USA has benefited greatly by having its dollar as the world’s reserve currency. But now it acts like it can dictate how other nations use money as it continues to treat its currency as a weapon.

One so-called sanction that western nations seem to think that they have the right to is to steal yachts of Russia oligarchs. While nations have the right to determine which ships they allow to dock, the idea that they can steal someone’s yacht (and by the way I have never owned a yacht or anything like one) simply because they are Russian, is simply wrong. Yet, yesterday, I saw a headline where the USA bragged about stealing some Russian man’s yacht. Just because a Russian may have assets, that does not mean that they have anything to do with the situation in Ukraine or that it is right to take any assets from someone.

Furthermore, notice the following:

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON, April 5 (Reuters) – The United States stopped the Russian government on Monday from paying holders of its sovereign debt more than $600 million from reserves held at U.S. banks, in a move meant to ratchet up pressure on Moscow and eat into its holdings of dollars. …

The USA is stopping Russia from paying people who hold bonds that Russia owns and is trying to pay. Bondholders are entitled to be paid (and no, I am not a bondholder).

It seems that the USA is determined to destroy international reliance on its dollar, by doing such things.

Even though such destruction makes no sense, some in the leadership in the USA keep taking steps which will destroy its dollar.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly said:

Candy wrappers normally look nice, but are not filled with food of proper sustenance.

There are parallels with the USA dollar.

As far as sanctions go, the West has sanctioned Russia for most years since shortly after World War II in one way or the other. This has pushed Russia to be less dependent upon the West than it otherwise likely would have been.

Russia produces food, fertilizers, petroleum, weapons, and natural gas. Russia also has gold.

Furthermore the USA and others need to consider that reductions in Russia exports of fertilizers, wheat, and oil will tend to contribute to inflation for the West.

As regular readers of this COGwriter Church of God News page are aware, I have long warned about sanctions–particularly against Russia.

Back on March 18, 2019, I posted:

It remains my view that Crimea and at least parts of eastern Ukraine will ultimately align with Russia.

And the events of the past several weeks confirmed my view that sanctions and threats of sanctions would not stop Russia from having territories align with it. Additionally, Russia has essentially ended up with at least two parts of eastern Ukraine aligning with it.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said new US sanctions would be a declaration of economic war. Iran, North Korea, China, Europe, and Turkey are also upset about USA sanctions and tariffs. A Turk asserted “Somebody must find a solution and stop the USA.” The BRICS nations see US sanctions and tariffs as helpful to their objectives to trade without the USA. Are “unintended consequences” of USA policies threatening the current Anglo-American world order and leading to a New World Order? Both the Trump and Biden Administrations have imposed sanctions.

This is leading many nations to try to get around them and USA dollar influence.

While the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, China, India, and South Africa) are not able to eliminate the USA dollar, yet–they can have major influence.

There is a cost to sanctions.

The USA and much of the West will learn more about that fairly soon.

Anyway, while few in the USA want to believe it, the USA dollar is on its way out as the primary reserve currency for the world.

And, basically the USA has done this to itself through its sanctions, debt accumulation, and weaponizing its dollar.
