Australian ‘PM defends stalling on same-sex marriage’

Wednesday, August 12th, 2015

Tony Abbot

COGwriter

Unlike the USA and the rest of its Anglo-Saxon descended allies, Australia has thus far refused to recognize homosexual marriage:

12 August 2015

Prime Minister Tony Abbott accepts people may be disappointed over the coalition’s decision to reject a free vote on same-sex marriage but says the government has to keep faith with the public.

‘There is the prospect of change in the next parliament if that is the will of the Australian people,’ Mr Abbott told ABC radio, referring to a proposal for a national plebiscite.

The prime minister said it was only the current generation that had thought of gay marriage so ‘why not give it to the people?’

The prime minister recalled university debates with gay friends.

‘The idea that the gay community would in those days have wanted to embrace a bourgeois institute like marriage would have been unthinkable,’ Mr Abbott said, acknowledging that times change.

Mr Abbott said backbenchers were entitled to vote whichever way they wished.

But he would be disappointed if they went against the party position.

However, ministers would have to resign if they followed their conscience.

‘We will not be attempting to bind anyone beyond the life of this parliament,’ he said.  http://www.skynews.com.au/news/top-stories/2015/08/12/abbott-to-put-gay-marriage-to-the-people.html#sthash.IQMEofcF.dpuf

So, for the time being, Australia has not decided to legalize an abomination.  But I would not hold my breathe as there are indications that it will following the repulsive trend that has affected many nations.

Homosexual acts are clearly prohibited in the Bible:

22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22)

13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. (Leviticus 20:13)

Those who try to claim that the Bible does not clearly condemn homosexuality are intentionally misreading what it actually teaches. The Bible prohibits and condemns homosexual behavior–the Bible calls it an abomination!

The Bible never sanctions anything that could be considered as ‘same-sex’ marriage.

It is good that Australia has not accepted it.  But, it is likely it will bow to pressure and some day ‘legalize’ the abominable as many other nations have done.

Martin Luther King, Jr.’s ‘Dream,’ Ferguson, and God’s Plan

Tuesday, August 11th, 2015

COGwriter

A recording, believed to be the earliest where Dr. Martin Luther King conveyed his ‘dream’ was reportedly just found:

August 11, 2015

Before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech in front of a massive crowd in Washington DC in 1963, a small group in a high school gymnasium in North Carolina got to hear a preview.

North Carolina State University held an unveiling in the Hunt Library today of the never-before-heard recording of Dr. King giving the speech to Rocky Mount High School on Nov. 27, 1962, nearly a year before the famed rendition on Aug. 28, 1963.

The tape, believed to be the first version of the speech, was discovered by Jason Miller, an English professor at the school. (Hear portions of the tape on ABC-owned station WTVD-TV.)

It used to be thought that the first time Dr. King talked about that was on August 28, 1963 where he said:

Now is the time to lift our ion from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children…

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave-owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood…

I have a dream that my four little children will me day live in a nations where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character…

I have a dream today . . . I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain will be made low. The rough places wild be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together. This is our hope.

So, it now seems he may have had a dream sooner.

Yet, the situation we see in Ferguson and other places sadly shows that racial prejudice still exists, and that it exists across racial lines.

But let me state that “God has a plan.”

God sent His Son who taught against racial injustice and who was willing to not only violate certain segregation practices (John 4:7-9), He also praised those of a race that the religious leaders shunned (Luke 10:30-37; 17:15-19).

God has a plan where former enemies will come together of different ethnicities (Isaiah 19:23-25).

God has a plan where people will be judged, not by outward appearance (1 Samuel 16:7) nor power (Revelation 20:12), but by their character (1 Samuel 16:7; Romans 2:16) and works (Revelation 20:12-13).

God has a plan where:

4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:

5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. (Isaiah 40:4-5, KJV)

God has a plan which will result in people of every nation and race will being saved:

9…I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Revelation 7:9-10)

God has a plan where people of every nation will be able to rule:

9…You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood
Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
10 And have made us kings and priests to our God;
And we shall reign on the earth. (Revelation 5:9-10)

God has a plan where “all flesh shall see the salvation of God” (Luke 3:6).

God has a plan.

And His plan will come to pass (Acts 2:21; Proverbs 19:21; Isaiah 46:10), His kingdom will come (Revelation 11:15), and we need to pray for it (Matthew 6:10).

Protesters arrested in Ferguson; Obama ‘indifferent to ‘Christian’ persecution in the Middle East

Tuesday, August 11th, 2015

COGwriter

Despite the declared ‘state of emergency,’ dozens were arrested in Ferguson:

August 11, 2015

FERGUSON, MISSOURI—

Police arrested more than 20 protesters Monday night in Ferguson, Missouri, which continues to be a flashpoint one year after the high-profile shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, an unarmed black man who was shot by a white police officer.

Officials declaring a state of emergency did not prevent further clashes between demonstrators and police during a second night of unrest in the embattled St. Louis suburb.

As night fell, dozens of protesters repeatedly defied police orders to stay off the street and stopped traffic on West Florissant Avenue, the scene of riots and looting over the past year.  …

In the face of flying water bottles and rocks, police moved quickly to keep large numbers of protesters from filling the streets and stopping traffic, something they had accomplished on a busy highway earlier in the day.

“This is a lot milder than last year, I mean, last year it was unexpected, it was a larger body of people, so the outcome was a little more dramatic. This is more positive than last year, it’s more powerful,” Mal Stiff said.

Police have appealed for calm as more protests are expected.  http://www.voanews.com/content/unrest-marks-anniversary-in-ferguson-missouri/2913225.html

UPDATE 312 pm Ferguson Time.  I have not changed this article but added the following news piece to it:

8/11/15

FERGUSON, Mo. About 150 people have been arrested during several days of protests around Ferguson, Missouri, where largely peaceful demonstrations over police shootings of unarmed black men have been punctuated by flashes of violence. http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/08/11/us-ferguson-anniversary-idUSKCN0QE0HI20150811

Sadly, more civil unrest is expected in the USA.  As regular readers of this page are aware, I believe that the Obama Administration has helped ‘fan the flames’ for the protests in Ferguson.

Of course, I have long believed that the USA would have more civil unrest.  Here are some prediction from my book Barack Obama, Prophecy, and the Destruction of the United States-Second Edition for Second Obama Term:

Barack Obama has made a variety of “class warfare” comments (e.g. Obama B. Transcript: President Obama delivers State of the Union speech. CNN, January 24, 2012).  Increased civil unrest is coming to the U.S.A. and Barack Obama has helped fan the flames for this… (p. 48)

Civil unrest will occur, though that is likely to increase further after he is out of office. (p. 62)

While there will be some civil unrest and possibly riots in Barack Obama’s second term, what happens later will be far worse. (p. 68)

Now, getting to the Obama Administration’s position on certain international matters, both a Republican and Democratic leader are in the news related to US President Barack Obama’s claimed ‘indifference’ to the persecution of professed Christians in the Middle East:

August 11, 2015

Former U.S. White House Chief of Staff John Sununu has said in an interview on that President Barack Obama seems to be “indifferent” to the persecution of Christians in the Middle East. …
“It’s a tragedy what’s happening,” Sununu, a Republican who was born in Cuba, told host John Catsimatidis, The Hill reported.

“And I cannot believe that this administration, this president, does not understand that there is a concerted effort to destroy the Christian community in Iraq, the Christian community in Syria in particular, and they’re being slaughtered.”

Sununu, who comes from Greek Orthodox family with roots in the Middle East, said there are tens of thousands of Christians being killed.

“There seems to be an indifference in Washington to what is happening there,” he said. “These are not trivial numbers.” …

His stance was borne out by Democrat presidential contender and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, the Daily Caller reported Aug. 7.

O’Malley said the group calling itself Islamic State is trying to wipe Christians off the face of the Earth, and the United States isn’t doing enough to stop them.

“ISIS’ plan to destroy Christianity in the Middle East is more ambitious than simply wiping out the Christian population; it also aspires to erase any semblance that Christianity ever existed in the Middle East,” O’Malley wrote in an editorial in the Detroit Free Press.

“‘Genocide’ is not an overstatement,” he added, saying ISIS’ violence against Christians “requires an extraordinary effort on our part to protect them.”  http://www.ecumenicalnews.com/article/former-bush-aide-democrat-presidential-contender-lament-us-stance-on-christian-slaughter-32544

The Islamic State has persecuted both Muslims and non-Muslims in the Middle East–they hurt anyone who will not accept their faith–whether or not one claims Christianity–but they are often harder on those that do.  What has happened to the Kurds, Armenians, Yazidis, and others by the Islamic State has been horrific. As news accounts have shows, US President Obama originally  dismissed the Islamic State as of little consequence.  He later, after they seized a lot of territory and US weapons, said he would basically stop them, but they have not stopped (see also Islamic State again captures hundreds, despite USA’s efforts to defeat it).

Despite his claims to be a ‘Christian,’ which he truly is not, some have wondered if Barack Obama is some type of Muslim.  Various ones have wondered if Barack Obama’s upbringing may have at least made him a Muslim sympathizer.  Here is something else from my book Barack Obama, Prophecy, and the Destruction of the United States-Second Edition for Second Obama Term:

Is Barack Obama a Muslim Sympathizer?

Many have wondered if Barack Obama is a Muslim sympathizer.  The answer to that question seems to be yes. He did grow up in Muslim Indonesia, however, and has had more early Muslim contacts than has anyone else ever elected as President of the United States.  Therefore, he would probably have more reasons than most U.S. presidents to have sympathy for certain Muslim perspectives.

Here is some of what Barack Obama’s Fight the Smears website quoted about this:

Newsweek:  Obama’s only personal contact with Islam came as a boy when he moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, with a stepfather who mixed his Islam with Hindu and Animist traditions…

Boston Globe:  His Kenyan paternal grandfather and Indonesian stepfather were Muslim…

Thus, while the selected quotes seem to have been intended by the Obama campaign to minimize his ties to Islam, Barack Obama has more early ties to Islam than has any President of the United States in history.

Interestingly, in 2012 Newsweek referred to Barack Obama as “The First Gay President,“ (WHISTLEBLOWER MAGAZINE: THE FIRST MUSLIM PRESIDENT The 1 honorary title Barack Obama doesn’t want – but definitely deserves. World News Daily, January 3, 2013) which would not be appropriate if he was truly Muslim or a real Christian.

Oddly, years ago, Barack Obama told Charles Bolden, the head of the National Aeronautic Space Administration (NASA), to set as one of his top priorities trying to make Muslims feel good about their historic contributions to science (Harnden T.  Barack Obama: Nasa must try to make Muslims ‘fee good.’  The Telegraph, July 6, 2010). This is an unusual top priority for NASA (space exploration and U.S. interests always presumably had been its historic top priorities).

Interestingly, notice a report concerning Barack Obama and  his long-term pastor, Jeremiah Wright:

According to Mr. Klein, Mr. Wright directly contradicts Mr. Obama’s narrative of having little contact with Trinity United Church. Instead, Mr. Wright alleges that he was Mr. Obama’s close spiritual and political adviser, someone who for more than 20 years shaped the future president’s worldview. In fact, the pastor claims that he was like “a second father” to Mr. Obama.

Furthermore, Mr. Wright says Mr. Obama possessed an “Islamic background” and despite his conversion to Christianity has never abandoned his Muslim roots (Kuhner JT.  Jonathan Wright can sink Obama. The Washington Times online, May 17, 2012).

The fact that Barack Obama was influenced by Jeremiah Wright seems confirmed by many matters, including the fact that Barack Obama wrote a book in 2008, The Audacity of Hope, which had the same title as an earlier sermon he reported that he heard Jeremiah Wright give (Obama B.  Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance.  Crown, 2007, p. 292).

As far as influence from Islam, like he had done before, on August 10, 2012, Barack Obama hosted an Iftar dinner related to the Islamic observance of Ramadan (President Obama’s Remarks at the White Houser Iftar Dinner. Huffington Post online, May 17, 2012).  So, there are apparent ties to that faith.

Some have suggested that Barack Obama is actually Muslim and is under a taqiyya arrangement with Islam (a provision that supposedly authorizes deception) in order to deceive non-Muslims so he can advance Islam and groups likes the Muslim Brotherhood (Klein J. Muslim Brotherhood and Obama: Partners in Taqiyya. FrontPageMag.com  January 24, 2012). This author cannot look into Barack Obama’s heart, so how deeply involved theologically he is with Islam is a question that only he and God can answer (cf. 1 Samuel 16:7).  Barack Obama, himself, publicly claims as his religion his version of Christianity.

The front cover of the January 2013 edition of the magazine whistleblower calls Barack Obama “THE FIRST MUSLIM PRESIDENT” essentially because of how he was raised and how his Administration has handled various matters (WHISTLEBLOWER MAGAZINE: THE FIRST MUSLIM PRESIDENT The 1 honorary title Barack Obama doesn’t want – but definitely deserves. World News Daily, January 3, 2013) —not necessarily because they believe that he is somehow a “secret Muslim.” (Thiel B. Barack Obama, Prophecy, and the Destruction of the United States-Second Edition for Second Obama Term. Nazarene Books, 2012, pp. 32-35)

As far as possible ‘indifference’ goes, I would add that one or more of the Americans that Iran is still holding are believed to be some type of Protestant pastors.

Anyway, expect more civil unrest in the USA.

Also expect that eventually the tide will turn against the Islamic State.  The ruthlessness of the Islamic State will ultimately lead to its end.  After certain difficulties, and perhaps a regional war in the Middle East, eventually a confederation of nations in the Middle East and North Africa will form (Daniel 11:40-43; Ezekiel 30:2-9), a temporal peace will be had (Daniel 9:27; see also The ‘Peace Deal’ of Daniel 9:27), but Philadelpian Christian persecution will happen (Daniel 11:28-35 ; see also Persecutions by Church and State)the USA will not do well (Daniel 11:39), nor will later the King of the South confederation (Daniel 11:40-43; Ezekiel 30:2-9).

Anyway, my prayers go out for all affected currently by violence, in an out of the USA, Muslim and non-Muslim.  We are to pray for God’s kingdom to come (Matthew 6:10) as then the prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6) will return before all of humanity is destroyed (cf. Matthew 24:22).

Alcohol: Blessing or Curse?

Tuesday, August 11th, 2015

COGwriter

Is alcohol a blessing or a curse? Or perhaps both? What does the Bible teach?

Here are some excerpts from an article titled Alcohol: Blessing or Curse? in the old Good News magazine:

Alcohol can be either a blessing or a curse, depending on how it is used. Most people who drink alcoholic beverages find them to be a blessing. On the other hand, sadly, there are a few who find through abuse of such beverages – that alcohol can be a curse. This group includes the approximately 10 percent of drinkers who develop the malady of alcoholism, which destroys them physically, mentally and spiritually.

It doesn’t matter whether the alcohol is consumed in beer, wine, whiskey, gin, vodka, vanilla extract or mouthwash – they all contain the same ethyl alcohol or ethanol (C2 H 50H), and people need to be aware of the proper – and improper – uses of this chemical.

Religious uses of alcohol

In the Old Testament alcoholic beverages were important in various aspects of religious observance.

God’s people, Israel, were commanded to include drink offerings they made to God (e.g. Num. 15: 5, 7, 10). Wine was among those blessings of which the Israelites payed tithes and gave offerings to their Creator (Neh. 10:39, 13:5)…

Alcohol as medicine

The medicinal value of alcohol is in its ability to act as an anesthetic (painkiller) and an antiseptic (prevents infection).

The good Samaritan poured oil and wine into the wounds of the man he befriended on the road to Jericho (Luke I 0:30-37); undoubtedly the purpose of the wine was to deaden some of the pain and to prevent infection. Today we have more advanced drugs for anesthesia, such as novocaine, which dentists use to deaden nerves when they pull teeth. Alcohol, though now generally mixed with other patent medicines, is still recognized and used as an antiseptic for minor scratches and cuts.

The apostle Paul suggested that Timothy use a little wine for his stomach’s sake (I Tim. 5:23). The Bible does not indicate the nature of Timothy’s stomach problem or what his “often infirmities” were, but per haps there was some difficulty with the drinking water or Timothy had a digestive impairment. However, whatever it was, note that Paul said to use a little, not copious amounts, of wine…

Drinking for pleasure

In addition to the religious and medicinal uses of alcohol, God also approves of drinking to add pleasure to social occasions such as weddings and parties. Wine and other alcoholic beverages can make people more cheerful and give greater enjoyment to already happy gatherings. They “gladden the heart of man” (Ps. 104:15, Revised Standard Version).

Christians should always exercise caution when using alcohol for pleasure, however, because of the ever-present danger of overuse, which will utterly destroy any enjoyment that could have been derived from a social occasion. Nobody likes a drunk, including the drunk himself…

Alcohol abuse…

Christ Himself warned His followers not to be drunken (Luke 21:34). Paul told the Corinthian church to “put away from among yourselves” any member who was a drunkard – to have no fellowship with such a person (1 Cor. 5: 11-13). No person who is unable to use alcohol properly is fit to be a minister (1 Tim. 3:3, 8, Titus 1:7). Paul taught the Ephesians to “be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess,” but rather to be filled with the Spirit of God (Eph. 5:18).

Have you ever been guilty of drunkenness?…

The Bible nowhere commands Christians to drink alcohol, with the exception of about a tablespoonful during the Passover service. Alcohol should be seen as a blessing that God has given human beings to honor Him, to help heal our bodies, to cheer us up when needed and to add pleasure to meals and social occasions. As Christians, we should be aware of the benefits and dangers of alcohol and use it properly, so we can truly consider alcohol to be the blessing God meant it to be.

In certain areas, however, excessive drinking and ‘binge drinking’ are serious problems.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Fact Sheet on Binge Drinking states:

According to national surveys

  • Approximately 92% of U.S. adults who drink excessively report binge drinking in the past 30 days.2
  • Although college students commonly binge drink, 70% of binge drinking episodes involve adults age 26 years and older.3
  • The prevalence of binge drinking among men is higher than the prevalence among women.4
  • Binge drinkers are 14 times more likely to report alcohol-impaired driving than non-binge drinkers.3
  • About 90% of the alcohol consumed by youth under the age of 21 in the United States is in the form of binge drinks.5
  • About 75% of the alcohol consumed by adults in the United States is in the form of binge drinks.5
  • The proportion of current drinkers that binge is highest in the 18- to 20-year-old group (51%).3

Binge drinking is associated with many health problems, including—

  • Unintentional injuries (e.g., car crashes, falls, burns, drowning).
  • Intentional injuries (e.g., firearm injuries, sexual assault, domestic violence).
  • Alcohol poisoning.
  • Sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Unintended pregnancy.
  • Children born with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.
  • High blood pressure, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases.
  • Liver disease.
  • Neurological damage.
  • Sexual dysfunction.
  • Poor control of diabetes. (http://www.cdc.gov/alcohol/fact-sheets/binge-drinking.htm)

While light alcohol consumption (no more than one drink in a day for most people) has health benefits, excessive consumption of alcohol is dangerous.

Notice the following:

1 Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise. (Proverbs 20:1)

20 Do not mix with winebibbers, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat; 21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe a man with rags. (Proverbs 23:20-21)

1 Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, Whose glorious beauty is a fading flower Which is at the head of the verdant valleys, To those who are overcome with wine! 2 Behold, the Lord has a mighty and strong one, Like a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, Like a flood of mighty waters overflowing, Who will bring them down to the earth with His hand. 3 The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, Will be trampled underfoot; (Isaiah 28:1-3)

18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation (Ephesians 5:18)

The partying drunkard is also specifically condemned as part of those that will not inherit the kingdom of God:

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)

The fact that the average college binge drinker is defined as one who gets drunk doing this at least twice per month shows the lack of concern for biblical morality.

The Bible also condemns those who encourage others to drink excessively:

5 “Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor,
Pressing him to your bottle,
Even to make him drunk,
That you may look on his nakedness!
16 You are filled with shame instead of glory.
You also — drink!
And be exposed as uncircumcised!
The cup of the Lord’s right hand will be turned against you,
And utter shame will be on your glory. (Habakkuk 2:15-16)

If you, or a loved one, has a problem with binge drinking or anything else to do with alcohol, pray about it and seek counsel.

In addition to contacting the ministry, secular sources can also be of assistance. A list of sources from the CDC can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/alcohol/resources.htm Furthermore, there are groups like Alcoholics Anonymous in many other nations. People with alcohol problems can be helped. And the Bible encourages people to leave the “binge drinking” lifestyle.

Excessive binging on alcohol is a serious problem in many societies. And is one that needs to be repented of–whether by males or females.

So while alcohol can and should be a blessing, overindulgence for many can turn into a curse.

State of Emergency declared in Ferguson

Monday, August 10th, 2015

Ferguson Protestors (Loavesofbread)

COGwriter

Protests and violence returned to Ferguson, Missouri and at least one protester got quite violent:

August 10, 2015

Authorities declared a state of emergency in Ferguson, Missouri, after gunfire erupted on the anniversary of a high-profile police shooting and prosecutors on Monday charged an 18-year-old man with assault on officers.

The man, Tyrone Harris, was critically wounded in an exchange of gunfire with police on Sunday night as people marked the shooting death one year ago of unarmed black man Michael Brown by a white officer in Ferguson, a suburb of St. Louis.

Police said Harris was being treated in hospital. They said St. Louis County prosecutors charged Harris, whose bond was set at $250,000, on four counts, including “assault on law enforcement” and shooting at a motor vehicle.

The violence, which also included a drive-by shooting and police being pelted with objects, prompted St. Louis County to declare a state of emergency.

“In light of last night’s violence and unrest in the City of Ferguson, and the potential for harm to persons and property, I am exercising my authority as county executive to issue a state of emergency, effective immediately,” County Executive Steve Stenger said in a statement.

On a day of civil disobedience called by activists in Missouri on Monday, several people were arrested after jumping barricades at a courthouse in St. Louis, news video reports showed.

Two policemen were shot in Ferguson, Missouri early Thursday, hours after the city’s police chief resigned in the wake of a Justice Department report that accused the department of racially biased policing.

The incident occurred about midnight as protesters gathered outside the Ferguson police station were just beginning to disperse. A few dozen demonstrators scrambled following the sound of gunfire.

One of the officers, a member of the St. Louis County police department, was shot in the shoulder, while the other, from the nearby town of Webster Groves, was shot in the face.

St. Louis County police chief Jon Belmar said the officers were conscious but described their wounds as “very serious.”  http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/08/10/us-ferguson-anniversary-idUSKCN0QE0HI20150810

Sadly, I expected something like this.  Actually, that is part of why I did NOT report about Ferguson this weekend–I suspected that the protesters would not all be peaceful.

Now, I will state that I believe police often disobey laws and/or act like they are above the law.  Too often, certain elements of the police force have been too harsh and/or violent to citizens of various races.  But I do not believe that most police officers are looking for an opportunity to harm/kill someone because of race.  Furthermore, I also believe that the media and federal government have overly fanned the flames of race and relations with police officers.  Enough so, that some people inclined towards violence have attempted to use protests as a cover for their violence.

Ferguson needs the kingdom of God.

Violence is not the answer to injustice. Notice what Jesus said:

52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. (Matthew 26:52, KJV)

Vengeance belongs to God:

17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. (Romans 12:17-19, NKJV)

What is needed is peace:

9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)

As far as violence goes, the Bible also shows that God is against violence and that destruction will come because of it:

23 ‘Make a chain,
For the land is filled with crimes of blood,
And the city is full of violence.
24 Therefore I will bring the worst of the Gentiles,
And they will possess their houses;
I will cause the pomp of the strong to cease,
And their holy places shall be defiled. (Ezekiel 7:23-24)

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality…30…violent, proud, boasters,…31…unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:28-32)

8…And the violence of the land and the city, And of all who dwell in it. ( Habakkuk 2:8)

For years, based on prophecies like the above, I have written that civil unrest would come to the USA. I expect more civil unrest in the USA in the future.  Ferguson is only a taste of what is to come.

In my view, some protesters and some in the government turn too quickly to violence. And that does not bode well for various ones in the USA.

Barack Obama dismisses criticism of nuclear deal with Iran; Pat Boone reports comments about Islam on making deals

Monday, August 10th, 2015

A Twitter account affiliated with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, posted an image over the weekend that appears to portray U.S. President Barack Obama holding a gun to his head. (Source: Twitter/CNN)

US President Barack Obama continues to defend his hoped for deal with Iran and has been hitting the television and radio news shows:

August 10, 2015

President Obama is facing deep skepticism in Congress, which votes next month on whether to disapprove the nuclear deal with Iran. The president contends that the public will better appreciate the deal in the years after it has taken effect. …

In his interview with NPR, the president acknowledged that some of the criticisms of the deal are true, especially the temporary nature of some of the restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program.

But Obama also spoke strongly of his critics, saying they were either “ideological” or “illogical.” Many Republicans as well as some prominent Democrats, including Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Eliot Engel of New York, have said they will vote against the deal. http://www.npr.org/sections/itsallpolitics/2015/08/10/431007173/ideological-or-illogical-president-obama-responds-to-iran-deal-critics

U.S. President Barack Obama is brushing off taunts from Iran and political complaints in the United States about the deal to restrain Tehran’s nuclear program.

In an interview aired Sunday on CNN, Obama dismissed the importance of a tweet from Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, showing an apparent silhouette of the American leader with a gun to his own head.

“I think that he tweeted that “in response to me stating a fact, which is, is that if we were confronted with a situation in which we could not resolve this issue diplomatically, that we could militarily take out much of Iran’s military infrastructure. I don’t think that’s disputable,” the president said.

Obama also told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria that he thinks it possible that a nuclear deal with Tehran could eventually lead to bilateral cooperation aimed at finding a solution to Syria’s long-running civil war.  “I think that’s possible,” he said of any deal that keeps Syria intact and curbs the growth of Islamist terrorists in the region.

“But I don’t think it happens immediately,” he said in the interview, which was conducted Thursday, hours before key Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer said he would oppose the deal in an upcoming Senate vote.

President Hits Back at Critics

Obama also accused his congressional opponents of the deal, particularly Republican lawmakers, of aligning themselves with Iranian hardliners who are also opposed to the pact announced last month.

“What I said is absolutely true, factually,” Obama said. “The truth of the matter is, inside of Iran, the people most opposed to the deal are the Revolutionary Guard, the Quds Force, hardliners who are implacably opposed to any cooperation with the international community.”

The pact would bar Iran from building a nuclear weapon in exchange for lifting sanctions imposed by the United Nations and Western nations that have hobbled Iran’s economy. U.S. critics have mostly attacked the deal as endangering Israel’s security and say that international verification of Iran’s compliance is weak.

Veto threat

The U.S. Congress, now in recess, is set to vote on the deal in September, with the outcome unclear.

At least 58 U.S. lawmakers, a mix of Republicans and Democrats, are currently in Israel on a trip paid for by the charitable arm of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which is lobbying strongly against the deal.

Despite that opposition, Obama has vowed to veto any rejection, which would force each of the two legislative chambers to muster a two-thirds vote to override his veto.  http://www.voanews.com/content/president-barack-obama-brushes-off-attacks-on-iran-deal/2909263.html

There are only 53 Republicans in the US Senate, so the opposition against the deal with Iran is starting to become bipartisan.  Other Democrats may also decide to vote against it.

The famous singer Pat Boone posted something about the Iran deal that some may find of interest:

People, listen to me, please. ..

We, like lemmings or mindless sheep, allow ourselves to be herded in larger groups by propaganda, purposed misinformation, media bias and outright lies. Very few take the trouble to check out the news reporting and the government’s proclamations.

“If the president says it, it must be so” is the pill, the Kool-Aid, millions of Americans are swallowing every day. It’s almost the “blind leading the blind,” except in some cases, the “blind” know exactly what they’re doing and that what they’re saying is patently false. They just depend on the likelihood that none will actually check what they say or do for veracity – or whether what they’re doing is actually in the best interests of America.

The president is doggedly determined to make a “deal” with Iran, supposedly preventing them from acquiring (actually producing) nuclear bombs and intercontinental missiles. It’s something he thinks will justify his eight years of failed presidency, even if the “deal” only kicks Iran’s nuclear ambitions down the road for a few years and gives them $150 billion in unfrozen assets, knowing full well they will use much of that to amp up their known funding of terrorism worldwide, especially including America in its claws.

Well, two very responsible friends of mine just acted like old-fashioned American citizens. They did some valid research, read the Quran and Hadith, noting Muhammad’s own words, and saw how Iran operates and what they bring to the nuclear “deal.” Jimmy and Carol Owens have written the following, which I want to share with as many fellow citizens as I can in hopes that they will bombard our elected Congress before they decide to rubber-stamp this insane, suicidal action.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENT AND THE SECRETARY OF STATE

Re: Negotiations with the Government of Iran

We emailed this letter to the president and the secretary of state several days before the June 30, 2015, deadline on the nuclear agreement with Iran.

Dear Sir,

We write you simply as concerned citizens of America.

As you seek a treaty with the government of Iran, surely you are aware of the Muslims’ doctrine called Taqiyya, which permits them to deceive their enemies when doing so will be advantageous to Islam’s cause.

Here are some quotes from their founder himself, the prophet Muhammad:

Bukhari 3,49,857 Muhammad said, “A man who brings peace to the people by making up good words or by saying nice things, though untrue, does not lie.”

Bukhari 4,52,267 Muhammad cried out, “Jihad is deceit.”

Bukhari 5,59,369 Bin Maslama volunteered to kill an enemy for Muhammad, then said, “Give me permission to deceive him with lies so that my plot will succeed.” Muhammad replied, “You may speak falsely to him.”

Bukhari 8,78,618 Abu Bakr, the prophet Muhammad’s closest friend and adviser and first convert to Islam, said, “If I make a pledge and later discover a more worthy pledge, then I will take the better action and make amends for my earlier promise.”

If deception to an enemy is advantageous to Islam, it is not a sin.

If you are aware of this, Sir, how can you make an unverifiable, unenforceable agreement with any nation whose guiding religion provides that they may lie to “unbelievers”? If their first allegiance is to Allah, why should they remain true to an agreement with any other power? …

Respectfully,

Jimmy and Carol Owens

Friends, fellow citizens: Too few of our neighbors know any of this. http://www.wnd.com/2015/08/the-muslim-principle-that-makes-nuke-deal-suicide/#P341bHspzb6dA8MZ.99

Public comments from Iranian officials show that they believe that they can interpret the deal to allow them to continue to support terrorism, increase Iran’s military presence, and remain enemies of the USA and Israel. For an example of this, see After deal, Iran’s Khamenei calls USA ‘arrogant’ and ‘the real terrorists;’ he also says Iran will not change its policies in Middle East.  Notice also the following:

August 10, 2015

Major General Hassan Firouzabadi listed 16 “advantages” to the deal, which Iran signed in Vienna in July, without detailing any drawbacks.

“The armed forces have the most concerns about the effect of the deal on Iran’s defense capabilities … but this agreement and the U.N. Security Council resolution have many advantages that the critics ignore,” Firouzabadi was quoted as saying by Fars News Agency.

The agreement, a major initiative for both US President Barack Obama and Iran’s pragmatic President Hassan Rouhani, has been met with resistance from hardliners in both countries.

“The tone of the UN Security Council resolution has changed compared to the previous ones. Regarding Iran’s missile activities, it doesn’t order but only asks for Iran’s compliance,” Firouzabadi said, referring to an international resolution passed in the wake of the deal. http://www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Iran/Irans-military-chief-voices-support-for-nuclear-deal-despite-prior-skepticism-411523

Notice that Iran is already saying that compliance with parts of the agreement is basically voluntary. It may decide that the ‘tone’ justifies them making other parts of compliance voluntary.  Iran does not expect that this deal is going to harm it in any major way as it will tend to only comply with what it thinks it must, and even then it may decide not to comply with other parts figuring that once it has the money/assets that were frozen that the West will do little that it cares about.

That being said, Iran might decide to release certain hostages that it holds in the relatively near future.  Now, that does not mean that Iran wants to get along with the USA, but mainly that it wants some favorable publicity for a time in the Western press.  Iran wants its frozen assets as well as certain trade from the West.  It wants certain materials for its military.

Look for war to come to Iran and/or its ally Syria. And more war in Syria that the present conflict–something that will render Damascus a ‘ruinous heap’ (Isaiah 17:1).

Iran wants to takeover Jerusalem and lead the Islamic world. It then wants to takeover the world.  Iran hopes that the West will let it get far enough along in its military plans to make that a possibility.  But Iran will fail if it takes too strong of actions against the USA and/or Israel.

This nuclear deal, including its access to funds, and Iran’s overall ambitions make Iran dangerous. Iran may well damage Israel (Isaiah 22:1-14) and even the USA. But that will not end well for Iran (cf. Jeremiah 49:34-38).

Despite Barack Obama’s comments in the media, expect more issues from Iran.

Irish Puck Fair: Any possible biblical ties?

Monday, August 10th, 2015

COGwriter

A reader send me the following:

Puck Fair is one of Ireland’s oldest festivals, celebrating almost 400 years of documented evidence. The first day of Puck Fair is called The Gathering Day which makes Puck Fair the original and oldest Gathering Festival in Ireland. http://puckfair.ie/

“The word Puck comes from the Irish, puc, for billy goat (buck or he-goat, i.e. male goat).”

For hundreds of years, a male mountain goat has been enthroned as King of Puck Fair in Killorglin town. The Puck Goat reigns over the fair held on August 10th, 11th and 12th of each year. King Puck is a symbol of a vast tradition whose origins are lost in the mists of time.

The first day of Puck Fair is known as “Gathering Day.” The Puck Goat is enthroned on a stand in the town square and the great horse fair is held. The middle day is known as “Fair Day.” This is the day of the cattle fair and general festivities. The last day is known as “Scattering Day” when the brief reign of Ireland’s only King is ended and the Puck Goat is returned once more to his mountain home.

This Sculpture was unveiled on the 5th day of August, 2001 in commemoration of the enduring Killorglin tradition of “Puck Fair” and its central figure King Puck. http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WMANF6_King_Puck_Killorglin_County_Kerry_Ireland

During the festival an estimated 80,000 people will visit the town, which rises over the river Laune. Late bars, music on the streets, Irish dancing, stalls and traditional horse and cattle fairs are part of the annual mix.

Puck Fair’s origins are believed to go well beyond 400 years ago but the first written reference is a charter from James I in 1613 which grants Jenkins Conway, the local landlord at the time, the right to collect a sum for every animal brought to the August fair held in the town. “This would suggest that the fair was something already well established in the local community,” a spokesman said.

Pat Cahill and John McGrath at Dingle Bay in Co Kerry with the captured wild mountain goat that will be crowned King Puck. http://www.irishtimes.com/culture/caged-king-puck-will-rise-above-killorglin-fun-1.1888497

Puck Fair is one of the only places, and times, of the year in Ireland that the pubs are allowed to stay open till three in the morning. At the end of it all, the king is dethroned (in a nice way) and returned to the wild to rejoin his comrades on the foothills of Ireland’s highest mountain. http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/king-puck-irish-town-honors-his-goatness-a-562594.html

The reader that sent the above commented:

Its very likely that this ancient Irish festival had its origin with the Hebrew Azazel “scapegoat” of the Day of Atonement fall festival. (email 10/04/14)

Notice something else about it:

The Puck Fair (Irish: Aonach an Phoic, meaning “Fair of the He-Goat”, ‘poc’ being the Irish for a male goat) is reputed to be one of Ireland’s oldest fairs which takes place annually for three days beginning on the 10th of August. The festival itself takes place in Killorglin, County Kerry.

Scholars speculate that the fair’s origins stems from Pre-Christian Ireland (Puck Fair. Wikipedia, viewed 10/04/14)

The fact that its origins are believed to be prior to the time of Jesus and that it starts on the 10th of the month is interesting as the Day of Atonement is held on the 10th day of the seventh month on the Hebrew calendar (Leviticus 23:26-27).

As descendants of Israel did end up in the British Isles (see Anglo – America in Prophecy & the Lost Tribes of Israel), this Puck Fair could be a twisted version of the Day of Atonement ceremony that ancient Israel had. The Irish seem to honor the ‘Azazel’ goat (Leviticus 16:8-10, YLT) and have a drinking holiday.

The Bible teaches that Satan is ‘the god of this age’ who has ‘blinded’ the ‘minds’ of many (2 Corinthians 4:4) and is now a type of king (Matthew 4:8-9), though he will lose what he has (Revelation 11:15; 20:1-4). Apparently the Irish festival is intended to honor him, though probably unintentionally by the participants (2 Corinthians 4:4).

In 2015, the Day of Atonement lasts from sunset September 22nd until sunset September 23rd. It is a day of afflicting one’s soul (Leviticus 23:26-27). Fasting (cf. Isaiah 58:5; Leviticus 23:26-27), not drinking in bars, is what the Bible advocates for it.

Could the ‘Cathedra Petri’ be ‘Satan’s throne’?

“Satan’s Throne” (Photo by Joyce Thiel)

COGwriter

Numerous times, my wife Joyce and I have been able to see and visit what could be ‘Satan’s throne,’ if the devil does in fact have a physical throne on the earth.

The first time we saw it was back in 1987 on a tour of Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Those of us on that tour (all WCG members) were told by a Worldwide Church of God minister who was conducting the tour that Joseph Tkach, Sr. (who was then the Pastor General of WCG–he died in 1995) stated that he felt that this was “Satan’s throne.” The WCG tour guide minister also said that that there was a tradition/legend (which possibly can be tied to one interpretation of a 12th century prophecy by the Bishop Malachy) that the final pope would sit on this throne.

This particular throne is black and the bottom of its legs are about 5 feet off of the ground. Despite odd claims, no one allegedly has ever sat on this final version of it. Here is a little bit of history about it:

As a young boy Gianlorenzo Bernini (1598–1680) visited St. Peter’s with the painter Annibale Carracci and stated his wish to build “a mighty throne for the apostle”. His wish came true. As a young man, in 1626, he received the patronage of Pope Urban VIII and worked on the embellishment of the Basilica for 50 years…Bernini then turned his attention to another precious relic, the so-called Cathedra Petri or “throne of St. Peter” a chair which was often claimed to have been used by the apostle, but appears to date from the 12th century. As the chair itself was fast deteriorating and was no longer serviceable, Pope Alexander VII determined to enshrine it in suitable splendour as the object upon which the line of successors to Peter was based. Bernini created a large bronze throne in which it was housed, raised high on four looping supports held effortlessly by massive bronze statues of four Doctors of the Church, Saints Ambrose and Augustine representing the Latin Church and Athanasius and John Chrysostom, the Greek Church. The four figures are dynamic with sweeping robes and expressions of adoration and ecstasy. (St. Peter’s Basilica. Wikipedia, viewed 07/21/12)

While there is no actual evidence that Peter had his chair (or a bench he sat upon) turned into this (or presumably part of it), the reality is that some chair/throne/seat has existed for some time, and now is overlaid as the large black one is shown. The Catholic Encyclopedia teaches about at least two:

From the earliest times the Church at Rome celebrated on 18 January the memory of the day when the Apostle held his first service with the faithful of the Eternal City…

This double celebration was also held in two places, in the Vatican Basilica and in a cemetery (coemeterium) on the Via Salaria. At both places a chair (cathedra) was venerated…In its present (ninth-century) form the “Martyrologium Hieronymianum” gives a second feast of the Chair of St. Peter for 22 February, but all the manuscripts assign it to Antioch, not to Rome… by the ninth century one of the two feasts of the Roman cathedra had drifted away to Antioch, shows that the cathedra of the Via Salaria must have perished as early as the sixth or seventh century. We come now to the question, where stood originally the chair shown and venerated in the Vatican Basilica during the fourth century? On the strength of ancient tradition it has been customary to designate the church of Santa Pudenziana as the spot where, in the house of the supposed Senator Pudens, the two great Apostles not only received hospitable entertainment, but also held Christian services. But the legends connected with Santa Pudenziana do not offer sufficient guarantee for the theory that this church was the cathedral and residence of the popes before Constantine…

In 1776 there was excavated on the Aventine, near the present church of Santa Prisca, a chapel with frescoes of the fourth century; in these frescoes pictures of the two Apostles were still recognizable. Among the rubbish was also found a gilded glass with the figures of Peter and Paul. The feast of the dedication of this church (an important point) still falls on the same day as the above-described cathedra feast of 22 February; this church, therefore, continued to celebrate the traditional feast even after the destruction of the object from which it sprang.

In the crypt of Santa Prisca is shown a hollowed capital, bearing in thirteenth-century letters the inscription: BAPTISMUS SANCTI PETRI (Baptism of Saint Peter), undoubtedly the echo of an ancient tradition of the administration of baptism here by Peter. In this way we have linked together a series of considerations which make it probable that the spot “ubi secundo sedebat sanctus Petrus” (where Saint Peter sat for the second time), must be sought in the present church of Santa Prisca; in other words, that the chair referred to by St. Damasus was kept there in the period before Constantine. It was there, consequently, that was celebrated the “natale Petri de cathedrâ”, set for 22 February in the calendars beginning with the year 354…

How Pope Damasus might be led to transfer the cathedra Petri from Santa Prisca to the Vatican, can be readily understood from the circumstances of that time. From the reign of the first Constantine the Lateran had been the residence of the popes, and its magnificent basilica their cathedral, while the neighbouring baptistery of Constantine served for the solemn administration of baptism on the eve of Easter. In the half-century from 312 to 366 (date of the accession of Damasus), the importance of Santa Prisca, its baptistery, and its cathedra must naturally have declined. Damasus could therefore be certain of the approval of all Rome when he transferred the venerable Apostolic relic from the small chapel in Santa Prisca to his own new baptistery in the Vatican, where it certainly remained to the first quarter of the sixth century, after which it was kept in different chapels of the Vatican Basilica…We conclude, therefore, that there is no reason for doubting the genuineness of the relic preserved at the Vatican, and known as the Cathedra Petri.

(Waal, Anton de. “Chair of Peter.” The Catholic Encyclopedia. Vol. 3. New York: Robert Appleton Company, 1908. 21 Jul. 2012 <http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/03551e.htm>)

It should be stated that it is by tradition, as opposed to historical fact, that Peter was actually ever in Rome and there is no evidence that he conducted any church service in Rome on a chair. The admission that at least one of the Roman chairs must have been destroyed and others may have come from elsewhere should help persuade those interested in the truth that the Cathedra Petri is not really Peter’s “throne,” or a place from whence he “ruled” all Christendom. It also should be pointed out that even the Vatican does not believe that its ‘cathedra’ chair is in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, but is actually in Rome in the Basilica of St. John Lateran.

While a Pope (Damascus) apparently believed he was transferring a seat/chair of Peter to the Vatican, that does not make it so (and even if there actually was a seat that Peter once sat on that is now in St. Peter’s Basilica, this proves nothing other than a seat Peter sat on still exists). The throne that is now built over Cathedra Petri provides no actual proof that it was some place that Peter actually sat upon. The “no reason to doubt” conclusion in The Catholic Encyclopedia should be understood to mean “no real proof,” despite claims otherwise. Other sources claim that part of the reason for the legend of Cathedra Petri, as well as why there were multiple “seats/chairs/thrones,” was essentially that in the late second and third centuries that competing power blocks made the stories up to attempt to gain dominance (e.g. Sabatier A. Religions of authority and the religion of the spirit. Volume 16 of Theological translation library, 2nd edition. Translated by Louise Seymour Houghton. McClure, Phillips & Co., 1904. Original from the New York Public Library, Digitized Feb 9, 2011, p. 112). It has also been asserted that the seat underneath could never have been Peter’s as it came from the 8th century or simply the 17th century (Greatest Forgery in History: Chair of Saint Peter. Copyright © One-Evil.org 2011. http://one-evil.org/acts_forgery/forgery_chair_of_st_peter.htm viewed 07/22/12).

Anyway, some believe that the final pope on the Catholic Bishop Malachy’s list, Peter the Roman, will sit on the Cathedra Petri (some consider that he will be an antipope, and thus a henchman for Satan) in St. Peter’s Basilica.

And for those unfamiliar with Malachy’s list, he in the 12th century, predicted, with what some believe is complete accuracy, every pope since 1143. When Malachy’s list became public in the 16th century, it was considered to have been so accurate in predicting the 12th – 16th century pontiffs, that some thought it that it had not been written until the 16th century.

Here is what The Catholic Encyclopedia reported about it:

In 1139…St. Malachy gave his manuscript to Innocent II to console him in the midst of his tribulations, and that the document remained unknown in the Roman Archives until its discovery in 1590…These short prophetical announcements, in number 112, indicate some noticeable trait of all future popes from Celestine II, who was elected in the year 1143, until the end of the world. They are enunciated under mystical titles. Those who have undertaken to interpret and explain these symbolical prophecies have succeeded in discovering some trait, allusion, point, or similitude in their application to the individual popes, either as to their country, their name, their coat of arms or insignia, their birth-place, their talent or learning, the title of their cardinalate, the dignities which they held etc.

It does need to be pointed out, especially for Catholic readers, that Malachy’s list is only “accurate” if several admitted “antipopes” are counted, and the final one on the list, is believed by some to be the final Antichrist:

Catholic Priest Connor: [W]hen Malachy visited Pope Innocent II in Rome in 1139, he was given a vision of all the Holy Fathers of the future…A study of the entire prophecy shows that fulfillment is made possible only by including anti-popes...(Connor, Edward. Prophecy for Today. Imprimatur + A.J. Willinger, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno; Reprint: Tan Books and Publishers, Rockford (IL), 1984, pp. 7-9)

D. Lindsey: After the 266th pope, according to St. Malachy, there will be no more popes. In addition to being the last pontiff, some visionaries hint that the 266th pontiff will be the Antichrist. (Lindsey DM. The woman and the dragon: apparitions of Mary. Pelican Publishing, 2000, p. 65)

Here is what Malachy wrote in Latin about the last pope on his list:

In persecutione extrema SRE sedebit. Petrus Romanus, quipascet oves in multis tribulationibus: quibus transactis civitas septicollis diruetur, et Iudex tremendus iudicabit populum suum. Finis. (Gurugé A. The Next Pope. Anura Guruge, 2010, p. 221)

Here is some of what a Catholic writer commented about the last one on the Malachy list:

There are many, around the world, who, thanks to this prophecy, are totally convinced that the next pope will indeed call himself ‘Peter’–most not considering or caring what the implications of this could be.

In the considered opinion of the author, it is highly improbable that the next pope will be ‘Petrus Romanus‘ or even ‘Petrus II.’

For a start, given the Last Judgment implications, many respected Catholic sources have tried to point out, for quite a long time, that the pope talked about in motto 112 does not have to necessarily be the pope who follows the one described by motto 111; this 111th pope now being the current pope, Benedict XVI (#266). The justification for this “hedging’ is that the mottos were not numbered in de Wyon’s 1595 Lignum Vitae. The numbering, to facilitate manageability, came later. Consequently, it can be contented that the author of this prophecy, whoever it was, did not necessarily mean that the pope described in the last motto would come immediately after the one identified in the previous motto. Basically, the last, very long, atypical motto describes the last pope. This last pope may come to be at a much later time–with an indeterminate number of intervening popes between him and the one described by motto 111. Therefore, this last motto may not actually apply to the next pope, in which case, the expectation of ‘Petrus Romanus‘ becomes mute.

But what the proponents of the ‘Petrus Romanus‘ belief do not appear to appreciate is that the next pope, by the sheer necessity of the duties confronting him, is not going to be naive. Naiveté…is not a characteristic that one readily associates with today’s cardinals. They know the ways of the world and are world politic. There will be none amongst them who is not familiar with the Malachy prophecy. They all understand what the ramifications would be if the next pope surprised them all by stating that he will be called ‘Petrus Secundus.’

The protodeacon announcing ‘Petrus Secundus‘ from the balcony of St. Peter’s would be worse than shouting ‘fire’ in a crowded theater. There would be mayhem in what is likely to be another jam-packed St. Peter’s Square. People would panic. There could be a stampede, people could get hurt. The authorities in Rome and the Italian government would be forced to take immediate action to quell the understandable alarm. It would be considered, quite rightly, a security threat! For the first time in over a century there could be troops, Italian, NATO or both, surrounding the Vatican. There would be no celebrations, The Urbi et Orbi blessing, if it was to take place, would be viewed with understandable askance.

It is difficult to imagine the next pope doing anything this reckless. It is difficult to envision the cardinal electors permitting him to do anything this reckless. Hence, it is extremely unlikely that the next pope will be ‘Petrus Secundus,’ let alone ‘Petrus Romanus.’ If he is, head for the hills, and hope for the best. (Gurugé, pp. 221-223)

Now, I agree that the current pope Francis (who could be the last pope and is the one following #111 on the Malachy list) may or may not chose the name Peter II or anything similar–but that does not mean that he could not fulfill that prophecy. It needs to be clear, whether the pope does or not pick that name, the final major pope will be a destructive antipope. Malachy’s list did not actually name pontiffs, but basically gave short descriptions. And while some have concluded that Petrus Romanus is a name, it could be a description. The description could signify that he is a pebble (or “rocky” which is what the term petrus signifies) supporting the final Roman empire.

Notice also the following translation of Malachy’s predicted final pope:

Malachy (12th century): During the persecution of the Holy Roman Church, there will sit upon the throne, Peter the Roman who will feed his flock through many tribulations. After which the City of Seven Hills (Rome) will be utterly destroyed and the awful Judge will then judge the people. (Culleton, R. Gerald. The Prophets and Our Times. Nihil Obstat: L. Arvin. Imprimatur: Philip G. Scher, Bishop of Monterey-Fresno, November 15, 1941. Reprint 1974, TAN Books, Rockford (IL), p. 138)

Notice that the Bible warns against the religious city that will rules from the seven hills:

9 This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits…18 The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth. (Revelation 17:9, 18, NIV)

So, perhaps the above photos do show at least one of Satan’s physical thrones on earth.

Why do I say at least one? The Bible does specifically use the expression Satan’s throne once:

12 “And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write,

‘These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword: 13 “I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. (Revelation 2:12-13, NKJV)

Smith’s Bible Dictionary notes, “It is called “Satan’s seat” by John, which some suppose to refer to the worship of Æsculpius, from the serpent being his characteristic emblem. Others refer it to the persecution of Christians which was the work of Satan” (p.500).

And that particular throne/seat, presuming it involved a physical one, probably was not the same physical one as the one shown above. The main period of the Pergamos Church era was from 450-1050. Just as the initial local Church at Pergamos (time of the Apostle John) was situated in a city where Satan swayed human politics, much of this work of God’s church during 450-1010 A.D. occurred within the bounds of the government of Satan’s Eastern Roman Empire. Yet, whether it physically is or not, in a spiritual sense it seems to be the same throne.

Why?

Three basic reasons.

The first is that the old Roman Empire had two divisions, the West (based out of Rome) and the East (based out of Constantinople/Byzantium). While in the West, the “fall of Rome” is taught in history, the fact that the eastern leg of the empire lasted nearly a thousand years longer is relatively unknown–and it existed before and after the entire time that the Pergamos era predominated. Furthermore, prophetic writers, including Catholic ones, have tended to consider that the two legs of the image of the Beast in Daniel 2 have to do with the division of the old Roman Empire. And while the old Roman Empire is no more, there still is a difference between the West (which tends to be Roman Catholic, with Protestant daughters) and the East (which tends to be more Eastern Orthodox). But historically (the “great schism of 1054 not-with-standing) they have supported the same goals, the same body, the same throne.

And the second is because the Bible also teaches that the harlot woman, who would presumably have two legs or two lungs (Catholic and Eastern Orthodox leaders have stated that they are two “lungs” in the same body) and who sits on the seven hills (both Rome and Constantinople are cities of seven hills/mountains), has a history of persecuting the real saints, those in the genuine Church of God:

1 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”

3 So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written:

MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement. (Revelation 17:1-6)

So, from the above we see that the harlot woman reigns and has a history of persecuting the saints. This is the same woman/city that sits on the seven hills and reigns (both Rome and Constantinople are known for having seven hills/mountains). And the throne known as the Cathedra Petri is considered to be a throne of importance to at least Rome.

The third is simply that the foundation of the so-called Cathedra Petri is supposed to be four “Doctors of the Church.” Two are Latin (Roman Catholic) and two are Greek (Eastern Orthodox). So, it apparently has long been the intent that the the so-called Cathedra Petri is to portray Greco-Roman unity–they all are shown supporting the same throne. From a Church of God perspective the four individuals are interesting (they are somewhat listed based upon chronological impact of their teachings):

  1. Athanasius: He was at the Council of Nicea (325) and was able to persuade Emperor Constantine to support the idea of a trinity, which at the time was a very small minority position among the Greco-Roman bishops who attended. Additionally, according to The Catholic Encyclopedia article on the “Holy Ghost,” his circa 360 paper was the first to “clearly and fully” explain the current Greco-Roman doctrine of the Holy Spirit (see also Did Early Christians Think the Holy Spirit Was A Separate Person in a Trinity?). Catholic prophecy warns that in the end time it will have to deal with a group (like the Church of God, and likely it) that denies its (and Athanasius’ view) of the “unity of God.”
  2. Ambrose: He was a major factor in promoting and getting Athanasius’s view of the Holy Spirit adopted. He and the other four also heavily pushed celibacy. The trinitarian view that he helped get adopted by the Council of Constantinople in 381 that resulted in Church of God persecution at that time and since. He is also known for his work on Catholic “sacraments” (see Duties of Elders/Pastors).
  3. John Chrysostom: He was a big advocate of Greco-Roman religious holidays and, in 387, a big condemner of God’s holy days as observed by the Church of God (see Did Early Christians Observe the Fall Holy Days? and What Does the Catholic Church Teach About Christmas and the Holy Days?). His views have been cited throughout history and likely will be against the faithful in the Church of God in the end.
  4. Augustine: Mainly in the fifth century, he used the writings of Ambrose to expand upon sacraments. While he was not the first to turn against teaching the biblical doctrine of the millennium, he has been one of its main “intellectual” discounters that the Greco-Roman churches have relied on. Since the millennial teaching is the only doctrine listed in the current Catechism of the Catholic Church (Catechism of the Catholic Church. Imprimatur Potest +Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger. Doubleday, NY 1995, p. 194), it is likely that Satan’s supporters will use his writings against those of us in the true Church of God that will continue to teach this (more on the millennium can be found in the article Did The Early Church Teach Millenarianism? ).

So the foundation, holding up the so-called Cathedra Petri is based upon Greco-Roman leaders who often took strong intellectual positions against the Church of God. This is another reason that, spiritually at least, it seems to represent Satan’s throne.

Biblical, Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox prophecy suggests that the Roman and Eastern Orthodox Catholics will unify. They will strongly support (for a time) leaders that Satan inspires (cf. Revelation 16:13-14). False leaders likely to have complete access to Saint Peter’s Basilica and the so-called Cathedra Petri, and who for a while, will advocate the positions of the foundational doctors of the throne.

The Bible tells of a time when the King of the North will set up the abomination of desolation in Jerusalem and the ‘man of sin’ will sit in the “temple of God” in the end times:

31 And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation. (Daniel 11:31)

3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4)

If this Cathedra Petri (or the one in the Basilica of St. John Lateran) is moved to an area of the Church of God in Jerusalem’s Western Wall (commonly called the Cenacle), it is possible that it could fulfill some of the above prophecies. We will see.

In the end times, it is possible that Satan or one of his demonically-inspired representatives (cf. Revelation 16:12-13) may literally sit upon the black throne shown above. And while it may or may not literally be the throne of Satan, the basis the so-called Cathedra Petri and its anti-Church of God foundation suggests why it spiritually seems to at least partially represent Satan’s throne.

  • A haze would drap over the United States, causing temperatures to drop
  • Experts say there is a 1 in 700,000 annual chance of a eruption at the site

A supervolcano in the heart of America’s northwest has the potential to blanket the US in a ‘nuclear winter’.If it were to erupt, the Yellowstone supervolcano would be one thousand times as powerful as the 1980 Mount St Helens eruption, experts claim.

While it has lain dormant for more than 70,000 years, scientists say that we can’t rule out the possibility eruption this may some day take place – although they say the chances are extremely slim.

The eruption, the say, could kill as many as 90,000 people almost instantly and release a 10 ft (3-meter) layer of molten ash 1,000 miles (1,609km) from the park.

‘The ash would block off all points of entry from the ground, and the spread of ash and gases into the atmosphere would stop most air travel, just as it did when a much smaller volcano erupted in Iceland in 2010, …

In the heart of Yellowstone National Park, a supervolcano releases around 45,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide each day.

But the magma chamber lying directly beneath its surface is not considered large enough to produce such levels, so researchers have been searching for an alternative source for years.

In April, by tracking seismic waves, geophysicists discovered a huge secondary chamber deeper underground that’s so large its partly-molten rock could fill the Grand Canyon 11 times over. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-3189619/What-happen-Yellowstone-s-supervolcano-erupted-Experts-warn-90-000-immediate-deaths-nuclear-winter-US.html#ixzz3iKSXUQNF

The Yellowstone supervolcano is one of the largest active continental silicic volcanic fields in the world. An understanding of its properties is key to enhancing our knowledge of volcanic mechanisms and corresponding risk. Using a joint local and teleseismic earthquake P-wave seismic inversion, we revealed a basaltic lower-crustal magma body that provides a magmatic link between the Yellowstone mantle plume and the previously imaged upper-crustal magma reservoir. This lower-crustal magma body has a volume of 46,000 cubic kilometers, ~4.5 times that of the upper-crustal magma reservoir, and contains a melt fraction of ~2%. These estimates are critical to understanding the evolution of bimodal basaltic-rhyolitic volcanism, explaining the magnitude of CO2 discharge, and constraining dynamic models of the magmatic system for volcanic hazard assessment. http://www.sciencemag.org/content/348/6236/773.abstract

Even before the latest magma discovery, I have warned readers that Yellowstone could cause massive damage (e.g New Madrid earthquake risk and Iceland’s subglacial volcano erupting; any risk from Yellowstone?).  Now could Yellowstone possibly explode before (Mark 13:8) or during the time of the Great Tribulation?

It would seem possible.

Jesus warned about a time of earthquakes and troubles:

8 … And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be…troubles. These are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:8)

A supervolcanic eruption such as one at Yellowstone could cause major “troubles,” and truly impact the USA and Canada.  An earthquake could trigger this.

For years (e.g. Weather Affected Fall of Rome, Will it Affect the USA’s Fall?), I have warned that the USA could be hit with a ‘perfect storm’ of events and disaster that could weaken it during the ‘beginning of sorrows’ so that it would be easier for it to be taken over at the start of the Great Tribulation.  Now, we see more evidence that the USA is truly at risk for a destructive eruption at Yellowstone.  And while some will scoff and say that the probability is too low, less statistically ‘probable’ events have happened.  Plus, because of the decline in morality in the USA, destructive events are going to hit it.

Of course, it is not just North America that could be affected by supervolcanoes.

There are volcanoes in many parts of the world and nearly all can cause major problems.  But as Yellowstone is in the USA, it would be those in the USA, and probably Canada, that would be the most affected by it should it erupt.

The Continuing Church of God is pleased to announce the following video on our Bible New Prophecy YouTube channel:

21:07

Back in 1983, US President Ronald Reagan called the old Soviet Union an ‘evil empire.’ Could the USA itself now be considered an evil empire? Has the USA been engaging in practices and promoting practices that the Bible declares as evil? Will the promotion of evil, debt, sexual immorality, abortion, false education, pollution, and covetousness lead to the destruction of the USA? Does the Bible warn that a soiled or hypocritical nation will be destroyed? Dr. Thiel answers those questions and more.
