‘Euroskeptics’ make gains, Ukraine leaning West, and European fragile unity for the ‘Beast of the Sea’ will come to pass

(Reuters) – The euro struggled to gain any momentum early in Asia on Tuesday after drifting off a three-month low against the dollar with public holidays in the United States and Britain all but ensuring an anemic session overnight.

Eurosceptic election surge gives EU a headache

Stunning victories in European Parliament elections by nationalist, Eurosceptic parties from France and Britain left the European Union licking its wounds on Monday and facing a giant policy dilemma.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls called the breakthrough by Marine Le Pen’s anti-immigration, anti-euro National Front, which topped a national vote for the first time and pushed his Socialists into third place, a political “earthquake”. European stock markets moved higher Monday as election results rolled in from the European Union and Ukraine.

Investors seemed relieved as results showed traditional left-center and right-center parties will hold a majority of seats in the European Parliament. However, many voters were increasingly supportive of anti-EU protest parties, which gained significant traction in France, the U.K. and Greece.

“The status quo prevails in Europe,” explained Kathleen Brooks, a research director at FOREX.com. “Although the chorus of protest is growing louder, it is still a small force in the European Parliament.”

The biggest Euroskeptic results probably came from the UK (see also After the election, the UK a step closer to leaving the EU?), but it is not even in the Euro-zone, though it is currently in the EU. The fact that the markets did not drop precipitously a day or two after the election indicates that most believe that Europe will continue somewhat united.

On the other hand, over in Western Ukraine that election is believed to be a bit more pro-European Union:

KYIV, UKRAINE — Billionaire Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s likely new president, wasted little time in exhibiting his pro-Western leanings.

“We need to do all our best to bring in European values,” he said in a victory speech at a rally in Kyiv, after exit polls gave him a clear majority in the first round of voting Sunday…

But in the immediate days and weeks, the most important challenge facing Ukraine’s fifth president since the country broke with the Soviet Union 23 years ago isn’t the country’s developing ties with Europe, analysts say.

The priority will be to repair Kyiv’s shattered relations with Moscow, they say, and to find a solution to the separatist insurgency that Kyiv accuses the Kremlin of fomenting.

Separatists – as if to emphasize they have no intention of throwing in the towel as exit polls indicated there would be no need for a run-off election next month – forced the shutdown of Donetsk airport Sunday night. I have been warning since 2013 that a split/reorganization could happen in Ukraine and some of that is happening as Crimea is now part of Russia and portions of Eastern Ukraine wish to be as well. But Ukraine is only a small part of what is happening.

More change will come to Europe.

The Bible itself speaks of at least three future reorganizations to take place in Europe. Two are mentioned in Revelation 17:12-13:

12 “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. (Revelation 17:12-13)

While there will be problems in Europe, and the UK will not like how matters will end up between it and Europe (the UK will be taken over and essentially eliminated), the final Beast empire will form and currently is in the process of forming, despite “growing pains.” The Bible tells that a fragile unity will exist in the ‘ten toes’ of this union per Daniel 2:41-43.

The Beast empire that the Bible warns of is a European one and has connections to a particular sea.

Notice what other passages in Revelation and Daniel reveal:

1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:1-4)

2 Daniel spoke, saying, “I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea. 3 And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other. 4 The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings. I watched till its wings were plucked off; and it was lifted up from the earth and made to stand on two feet like a man, and a man’s heart was given to it. 5 “And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. It was raised up on one side, and had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said thus to it: ‘Arise, devour much flesh!’ 6 “After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird. The beast also had four heads, and dominion was given to it. 7 “After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. (Daniel 7:2-7)

The final version of the above beast has ten horns (Daniel 7:7) as does the Beast power of Revelation 17:12. This is the Beast of the Sea.

Which sea?

According to the Bible, the “Great Sea” that bordered the ancient lands of Israel (Joshua 9:1; 23:4; Ezekiel 47:13-16) was the Mediterranean Sea–and that is the sea that Daniel was referring to.

Why does this matter?

Well, the ancient Roman Empire controlled all the lands that used to border the Mediterranean Sea. The final Beast power in Revelation 17 is the one also referred to as the King of the North in Daniel 11. The “north” refers not only to areas north of Jerusalem, but also the lands that border the northern portion of the Mediterranean Sea (the nations that are on the southern border of the Mediterranean Sea are part of the King of the South, Daniel 11:40-43).

The individual nations that currently have borders with the Mediterranean Sea that are in or have indicated a desire to be in the European Union include (ignoring Turkey):

Portugal
Spain
France
Italy
Malta
Slovenia
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Montenegro
Serbia
Croatia
Albania
Hungary
Romania
Greece
Cyprus

The above list does not include nations, that do not border the Mediterranean Sea such as Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Macedonia, and others which would be expected to be part of the final Beast/King of the North power. There are currently at least 37 nations in the EU or highly interested in joining it—and that also does not include Vatican City.

Perhaps it would be of interest to note that the old “Holy Roman Empire” of the Middle Ages had territory that is currently occupied by 14 nations (four of which were “Israelite-descended”). But that empire did not dominate the world anything like the final one of Revelation 13/17/18 is prophesied to, nor was the old “Holy Roman Empire” ever considered to be the “King of the North.” The King of the North must be more powerful than the old “Holy Roman Empire” and this certainly may mean that it will have more territory.

While some COG groups, such as PCG and LCG claim that the final Beast power will only have 10 currently existing nations (though LCG suggests it could be eleven), the Bible and the current world situation suggest that is not a wise position to hold (see Must the Ten Kings of Revelation 17:12 Rule over Ten Currently Existing Nations?).

The situation in Europe is changing and additional reorganizations will come to pass. Despite the election results, this will not end well for the UK, USA, nor their Anglo-Saxon allies (Jeremiah 30:7; Daniel 11:39).
